It's not a wrap until the Mets fire Minaya and Manual in the middle of the night just as they did to Willie. Time to put a bow on this mess and bring back Valentine or promote Backman and clear the front office. The Mets haven't been to the playoffs since Wainright dropped a nasty back door slider on a flatfooted Beltran in 2006. Time for a change, unfairly or not, something has to give, and it surely won't be the broke Wilpons at this point......and thats a wrap
Why on Earth does anyone want Valentine back? Guy is a PITA.It's not a wrap until the Mets fire Minaya and Manual in the middle of the night just as they did to Willie. Hopefully its just a dreaded vote of confidence.ARE YOU ####### KIDDING ME????Per Newsday, Minaya will be back in 2011 according to Wilpon. What a joke, a disgrace and an insult to Mets fans. We have ownership that can neither lead nor decide. They don't invest properly in their team and use their ineptness as an excuse not to pursue a solution that will not only result in more wins, but more $$'s in their pockets. What an utter joke of a franchise and pathetic, pathetic ownership. Im done giving my money to the team. I don't see going to any more games at this point, its ridiculous.
If the ownership were anyone other than Wilpon, I'd agree. But we have a lot of history to show otherwise. Is there a franchise that has left more on the table in terms of both winning and dollars than the Mets? I can't think of one.Hopefully its just a dreaded vote of confidence.ARE YOU ####### KIDDING ME????Per Newsday, Minaya will be back in 2011 according to Wilpon. What a joke, a disgrace and an insult to Mets fans. Inside info form a security friend that works at Citifield.KRod get annoyed last night because Jerry Manual doesn't bring him in the 8th inning during another epic Met collapse. He then goes to the family room where his FIL calls him a bad father. He proceeds to beat the crap out of his FIL and open hand smacks the baby sister. Tries to leave the scene in his white Lamborghini but is stopped by cops.Did you know that Citifiled has a holding pen (Philly style)? Well it does and as of this morning KROD is stil on lockdown from last night.Wonder of Mets players can stop by and visit on the way to the clubhouse today?Does he warm up in the holding pen if they need him for today's day game? You just can't make this stuff up.
Apparently the combination of Carlos Beltran, Jason Bay, Francisco Rodriguez, Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo will make a total of $69 million next season....My goodness. Also, it looks as if Tejada and FMart have no business being in the majors right now. Are they simply trying to promote this "homegrown" team?ARE YOU ####### KIDDING ME????Per Newsday, Minaya will be back in 2011 according to Wilpon. What a joke, a disgrace and an insult to Mets fans. LOL! I can't believe Castillo still has another year on his contract.Apparently the combination of Carlos Beltran, Jason Bay, Francisco Rodriguez, Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo will make a total of $69 million next season....My goodness. Also, it looks as if Tejada and FMart have no business being in the majors right now. AND JERRY AND MANUELREJOICE! MINAYA AND OMAR ARE DONE
They have $108M in 2011 salary commitments not including the club option on Reyes or any arbitration awards to Pagan & Pelfrey. They'll have a hard time finding a trading partner for their overpriced talent except for Wright. Not a Mets fan at all, so grain of salt thing.Isn't the best thing to do here blow up the whole roster? I'm talking trading everyone they can for young talent including Wright, Reyes, Beltran and even Santana.Don't even let Oliver Perez drive near the Spring camp. Luis Castillo needs to go as well. For anything if he has any time left on that contract. Obviously they need to get rid of K-rod somehow and I would even see if they can move Bay. Turn over the whole thing. There is some young talent there that can be augmented by the guys you get from dumping these guys. Maybe take a shot at Crawford to the be the centrpiece of the new team? I don't know. I don't see why the organization would hold on to any of these guys.
They could maybe trade Beltran, if they eat half of what they owe him. But Santana, Bay and KRod cant be moved at this point. Castillo has 1 year, 6 million left - again they can trade him if they eat most of that. They dont really have good options to trade people for any real value. Besides, if they're going to try and rebuilt, why would they be in on Crawford? Realistically, the 2011 Mets are likely to look alot like the 2010 Mets. They just have too many contracts that restrict their flexibility. They'll need to hope for a return to form for Bay and good health for a number of players. Santana's injury is the most troubling coming into the next year, but if they can fill out the bullpen with quality arms, find a 2B, and get more decent starters the team should be ok next year. Not a Mets fan at all, so grain of salt thing.Isn't the best thing to do here blow up the whole roster? Just wondering: is there any way out of K-Rod's contract given all his legal troubles? I'm sure it's been talked about on WFAN, but I haven't been listening for, well, a few months. They could maybe trade Beltran, if they eat half of what they owe him. I think the MLBPA will put up a huge fight against any attempt to void the contract.Just wondering: is there any way out of K-Rod's contract given all his legal troubles? It's safe to drop Bobby Parnell in your keeper leagueFrancisco Rodriguez and the Mets have settled the grievance K-Rod filed after the team tried to make his deal non-guaranteed. The settlement: his deal is still guaranteed, but he drops his challenge to the Mets placing him on the disqualified list for the end of the 2010 season. That means he basically forfeits the $3.1 million he was owed for that last month and a half or so. He’ll be back on the Mets, deal in place, for the 2011 season.
They'd have needed to settle that grievance to trade him anyway. I don't think this story informs us one way or the other about how he'll be handled in the next year (possibly two)Eephus said:It's safe to drop Bobby Parnell in your keeper leagueFrancisco Rodriguez and the Mets have settled the grievance K-Rod filed after the team tried to make his deal non-guaranteed. Reyes and who else?Reyes for Cain?Whos in?
Interesting blog piece about Collins' 1999 campaign leading the Halos. The author doesn't think too highly of him.Terry Collins is the man. Not sure how I feel yet. I was hoping Backman would get a shot but I had Collins rated over Bob Melvin.
This year, probably. But their team is old and has no financial flexibility for the next couple of years. Sure Ibanez comes off the books for 2012, but they'll probably want to excercise their club options for Rollins and Oswalt if they're healthy this year, maybe even Lidge (but thats somewhat doubtful). Plus, Hamels will be in line for a raise. They've only got Howard, Halladay, Lee and Utley locked in for 2013. Additionally, all of their hitters are in the decline phase save Dom Brown and we've little idea about how well he'll play. Oswalt, Rollins, Lee, Utley and Howard all have recent injury histories. Their farm system isn't loaded with talent and they really have no apparent closer in waiting. I didn't really expect the Mets to compete this upcoming season. I'm just hopeful because we seem to have a GM that seems competent. It sucks knowing the Mets have no shot at the division in the near future. The Phils just locked that up for at least the next three years.![]()
Their farm system is loaded with talent, it's just in the lower level minors so it will take 3-5 more years to develop, or somewhere around 2013-14 before we see an impact from them if ever. Some names to look for from the Phillies farm are 1b John Singleton, OF Domingo Santana, RHP Jared Cosart, RHP Brody Colvin. On the one hand you say their hitters are in decline, then on the other you say that none are locked in to anything long-term. So really, the Phils are in a perfect position. They have a phenominal top of the rotation with Halladay and Lee for the next 3-4 years and Hamels will be around for AT LEAST two more years. So a great 1-2-3 top of the rotation, the heart of their order locked in through 2013 and the complimentary players locked in only for the short term. With the payroll the Phillies are putting out there, there really is no reason to believe that they would let a player like Hamels get away because of money. The Phillies have obviously changed their philosophy from an offensive team, to a team that will win with pitching and defense and will probably do everything in their power to keep Hamels. This year, probably. But their team is old and has no financial flexibility for the next couple of years.
