New York Times Feature On Walter Thomas (1 Viewer)

So you guys remember me raving about Thomas back at the Texas Vs. The Nation Game?

The Biggest Sleeper

Magid, who represents several professional football players, lobbied for Thomas to be included in a predraft all-star game called Texas vs. The Nation. When the workouts for that game began, Thomas was an afterthought. When they ended, he was an Internet phenomenon.

Draftniks found a new darling. Bloggers were breathless. Draftdaddy.com reported that Thomas was “unstoppable” and “nimble” and “drew reactions ranging from gasps to smiles to a simple shake of the head in disbelief.”
Ok I normally wouldn't get excited about an uncredited quote, but it's the New York Times. Yes that's from my Texas vs. The Nation report. Matt at DraftDaddy was cool enough to run my stuff, so Im glad his site got some major exposure!back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Wow. Excellent job with covering this story Bloom. The guy looks like a mammoth and by all accounts is as nible as a ninja. I'd be interested in seeing some tape/any video on this guy.

Wow!! Wow!! Wow!!

That is one incredible specimen of a man. All truly gifted athletes deserve a chance to prove themselves on the NFL field. I, for one, hope he gets that chance! Incredible speed for such a big man.

Could Andy Reid and the Eagles be eyeing up this guy?

Ooooh.....I hope so!!!

Wouldn't mind seeing this guy just absolutely destroy any RB that tried to run through (or around) them this year........

aaaaahhhh........I must be dreaming......

ETA: BTW.....you the man Bloom!

Haven't seen any news on Thomas yet, hopefully he gets signed somewhere soon. He is too talented to not be given a shot somwhere.

Yup there is a 50 page thread on the signing on the Saints message board.

Walter Thomas Signs with New Orleans Saints

The big NFL sleeper, written about in the New York Times, has in fact signed a free agent contract with an NFL team. The New Orleans Saints signed the 370-pound defensive tackle who only played two collegiate games.

"I think a lot of teams liked him," said his agent Martin Magid, "but with the commissioner's new rule (regarding stricter penalties for criminal activity), I think teams were cautious about drafting him."
From what I've heard he was arrested for robbery conspiracy. If he was planning on robbing, or knew about a robery, I don't knw, but the charges were dropped.

The guys on the Saints message boards have been debating mostly about his myspace page someone digged up. It has a lot of "gangsta" material on it. It's a myspace page, so I don't take it to heart, but why have it up if you are a NFL prospect.

Man alive, this guy should have been picked up by the Eagles, I am no way short of pissed off that they did not sign him. To let him go to a conference rival, and the Saints are just that, is deplorable!

Saints land massive enigma Thomas

Walter Thomas - the most famous undrafted free agent ever

We'll see what he's made of at the Saints' training camp in Millsaps, a boot camp in oppressive heat designed at eliminating anyone not fully committed to the cause. Then we'll know if, physically and mentally, he's prepared for the grind.
If Walter can survive camp and make the practice squad... watch out. I also wouldnt be shocked to see him get cut in minicamp - he's a sensitive kid - still Im glad to see im not the only one that was extremely fascinated by him.

Yeah, might want to lose those photos of he and his boys smoking funny-looking cigarettes.
