'bout 20 minutes ago, as i'm walking to hop the train in Jersey to get back, i saw this rather large black helicopter (yeah  :tinfoilhat:  i know) bookin' like a mofo over Midtown, and diving down at a pretty fast clip - loud as ####, to boot -  looked to be descending up around Riverside - anyone else??? Bueller?

(yeahyeah been seeing 'copters all my life 'round here, but this looked straight outta 'Blackhawk Down')

    :tinfoilhat:

You should have called me otb...our F-15 could have taken care of business!

Srsly, any word on the reasoning yet?

Could Trump Tower as WH North have anything to do with the increase of such traffic lately?

dunno, man ... but, buddy of mine who rarely posts on FB took the time to toss up 3 pics of a squadron of helicopters buzzing around lower Manhattan last night ... he was in Liberty State Park (Jersey City), and was taken aback enough to not only take pics, but to also post them (he's been here his whole life, as well).

like I said upstream, we're used to seeing all kinds of crafts and copters and planes, etc ... but something was afoot yesterday  :tinfoilhat:

Anyone fly out of the LGA in the last month? I'm reading about a nightmare getting there the last few weeks due to construction.

I'm 9 miles from there and have a 9am flight tomorrow, missing this flight would be a catastrophe. I'm leaving at 630 to play it safe, but I guarantee I'll be there in 30 minutes and sit in the terminal for close to 2 hours.

Your guarantee is right.  And you are doing it exactly how you should.

Ive gone out of LGA near a dozen times in the last few months and never had more then 15 extra minutes thought it felt like 30... being picked up though I've waited 40 min for the car to come around.

Thst said, I've heard some horror stories of when things go bad and people are like climbing over the barriers to get to the terminal, but leave yourself and extra 45-60 min and you should be more than fine.

I had to do this about 3 months ago - was sitting by the ramp to get to LGA and hadn't moved more than 300 feet in about 25 minutes. Got out and tailed it to the airport.

just hit 3,000 miles on Citibike.

I   citibike. only thing in the city that's happened for non-rich folk.
hope ya had some ankle weights on and rocks in yer pockets ? - think i saw Gigi Hadid blowin' down 5th ave ...

'in like a Lion, out like a Lamb'

I wish there were more bike riders like you.  I am so fed up with bike riders going the wrong direction down a 1 way street (so I don't see them because I don't expect traffic to be going in the wrong direction) and bike riders who run red lights and have no regard for people walking.

thanks man- tbh, I wish everybody followed the same basic logic most of us in here do... would make for an easier life.

it's gotten way better with the cyclists, but even the 1 in 20 who acts like an ####### pretty much ruins it. like the people who daily walk in the bike lanes and are entitled/snarky about it if I mention anything or deign to ring my bell to alert them. it takes a lot of effort to not be angry-commuter-guy because of these people... but I definitely feel better and get better results with "excuse me"s and "thank you"s rather than "RING RING GET OUT OF THE ####### WAY"

Feels like I've been hearing of these LGA traffic horror stories for a year already.
I know you're two totally different people, but the R ending with a number is co-joined into one poster in my noggin.

We also both live in Hoboken and both went to Rutgers (I believe).
sort this out please.

speaking of sorting out... a very minor couple of  NYC sidewalk things would love to get opinions about:

1- busy intersection and crosswalk... mass of people crossing with the light come to the corner. jay-walkers come to the same corner from the other direction. is there a right-of-way here? should the jay-walkers yield to the people crossing with the light, or push their way through and make them back up into the street (worst case).

2- on the sidewalk at the corner- a lot of people cut the corner instead of staying to the right. because you're at essentially a blind corner, I've had a bunch of collisions with people doing this... granted, while walking, so nothing life-threatening and just more of an irritation.

hearing great things about the new Antique Bar/Bakery down on Willow (between 1st & 2nd) - ya been yet?
Not personally (we have a one month old, so this is way off the radar right now) but friends went a couple weeks ago and really liked it. They live nearby and always went in for bread pretty much daily so guess there's a chance of bias, but like you have heard plenty of good buzz.

would it be bad form if I start eating my co-worker's Lady M mille crepe cake before his actual office b-day thing... which, tbh, should be starting because I'm ####### hungry for cake.

1. There probably is but asking a jaywalker to yield kind of seems like a losing proposition.

2. Having trouble envisioning what you mean. Are you (for example) walking west on 42nd st and someone is walking south on 5th ave, and he cuts the corner to start walking east on 42nd st and bumps into you?

1... I jay walk all the time, but- and I admit this is energy spent that nobody will ever give a crap about- I always yield to the people crossing with the light. means I have to stop just at the curb to let them by if need be. was wondering if anybody thinks or cares about this at all.

2... yeah- he's trying to go east on 42nd, I'm trying to go north on 5th. we both take the corner tight, but I'm sticking to the right and they're not.

I pretty much assume every other aho!e walking down the street is oblivious to the world around them and act accordingly. Rules be damned, I look for the quickest, safest path. Like Frogger.

ahhh, congrats on the newborn!  :hifive:   did you deliver at the old St. Mary's? (HUMC)

i'm over there at least a couple times per week, but usually finish my biz up by four at the latest, which seems a bit early for a swank ? joint like that - ergo, i haven't popped in yet - if I do decide to grab a few beers on the way home it's usually at one of the jernts on the way to the PATH with an early happy hour (Green Rock, Scotland Yard) or i pop on over to the always charming Wilton House (best drinking bar in Hoboken, imo) ?

once the weather gets nicer, and the days get a bit longer, i'll make it a point to spend some time there - hopefully it stays around awhile, it's in a very outta the way locale, and not the typical Hoboken fare.

Belated thanks. Wife delivered at St. Barnabas in Livingston, as that's where her normal doc works. They were awesome BTW. Huge private rooms were key.

Shot in the dark, but if anyone has been tempted to drop serious coin on excellent seats for Hamilton but hasn't wanted to also pay the big fees on Stubhub, SeatGeek, etc shoot me a PM and maybe we can work something out. I have a pair of third row Orchestra left tickets for March 21st. I'll give an FBG a break over what I have them listed for. While I'm not a greedy guy normally, with the new baby it's hard to pass up some really nice potential profits.

Or if you have a rich friend/coworker and they'll pay SH rates (prior to fees) I'll happily slide you a finder's fee.  :)

Did they mention a kid born there almost 45 years ago with an abnormally large pecker?  That was me.

Congratulations, buddy !

Looking for a restaurant suggestion for about 15 people, mostly out of towners, preferably that can double down as a meeting location for an organization of a non-profit group. The area they are staying at is Central Park & W58 St.

What's up my fellow NYers... missing you all down here. NOT missing the weather.  Or all the other people, especially those on Long Island.

Well, for the 2nd straight year my son did not receive an offer to a school on our list. We put 3 schools down, all within 8 blocks of our house. Apparently a school in Sunset Park 2.5 miles away is better.

I'd rank the DOE somewhere in the ballpark of the MTA when it comes to competence. I'm debating private school or suing the DOE, really need to decide how to spend $30k better.

Sunset Park in Brooklyn?

Far more incompetent.  The MTA is hamstrung by politicians deferring maintenance by not providing appropriate funding... hard to have everything run on time when your 100 year old infrastructure breaks down.   DOE is, from what I know, just a disaster.  One of the greatest factors for young families to get out of the city, even as they want urban living more than ever.

Yes - I've already been working through the system all day, I hate these people... You have to email, nobody that answers the phones is of any use. Nobody returns emails either, 4x already.

We're number 6 on the waitlist for our 2nd choice. We should receive an offer there from what I can gather, but man I ####### hate the NY DOE, just useless, absolutely ####### useless.

Both of my kids will be in private school come fall.  It's blood money, but I can't deal with the public ed game in this town.  Even if we "win" the public ed game, in Brooklyn the prize is substandard.

PS 8, 29, 58, and to a lesser extent 261 are all good schools.

2 kids in private? Do you #### gold? Unless it is a religious school, I don't see how that isn't $60k a year at a minimum.

So 4 school out of how many? I'm not in those districts. My kids have 3 teachers and an on staff OT/PT therapist to 24 kids now.  Best case at one of those public school is 2 teachers to 30.  So yes, I've undergone a procedure that allows me to #### precious metal. It's a co-op school, so I only #### silver.
