Definitely true. Not sure it's his decision or Macy's, but that's what they are doing.I heard that DeBlasio's 4th of July fireworks solution is to have various fireworks during the week, but he won't tell anyone when and where. I hope this stupidity isn't true.
Haven’t there been fireworks like every night anyway all over?I heard that DeBlasio's 4th of July fireworks solution is to have various fireworks during the week, but he won't tell anyone when and where. I hope this stupidity isn't true.
Where do you see the stats on this? I show only 42 new cases in Suffolk and hospitalizations at 73 according to Newsday.I wonder if Coumo will take action around Suffolk County. Continuing to show worst Covid numbers in state and beach season is just getting started.

Worldometers was over reporting in Suffolk county for some reasons. They have pulled their county level data for NY (think this is one of the reasons why). Sorry for confusion.Where do you see the stats on this? I show only 42 new cases in Suffolk and hospitalizations at 73 according to Newsday.

It's to avoid crowds gathering to ooh and ah. Makes sense, imo...even if the "secret location" thing is silly.I heard that DeBlasio's 4th of July fireworks solution is to have various fireworks during the week, but he won't tell anyone when and where. I hope this stupidity isn't true.
Where’d you go?I'm back.
Great views from Hoboken last night. It was LOUD though...miracle my daughter didn't wake up from it.I didn't hear about that but apparently it happened the last 2 nights and again tonight.
See incredible photos from the first night of Macy's 4th of July Fireworks
Hopefully nobody was inside..article I read said it was a gym under construction.Building just collapsed less than 10 blocks from my apartment.
City inspectors have issued three violations against the building’s owners for “structural cracks and (a) bulging exterior masonry wall” since last November, Buildings Department records show.
From what we were told, one person was in the building and they were rescued alive. If nobody died or even was severely injured, that’s fantastic!Hopefully nobody was inside..article I read said it was a gym under construction.
Got out on their own. I bet I can just ride this down like a wave.fantasycurse42 said:From what we were told, one person was in the building and they were rescued alive. If nobody died or even was severely injured, that’s fantastic!
Too busy making sure I'm using the right font size on my filing drawings.
My first day back in the city.Flying out tomorrow to spend the month of July in Boise, just as their cases are on the rise.
It's crazy that last time we went, we had to quarantine when we got there and this time it looks like we might have to when we get back to NY.
Stay safe all...good luck NYC!
Nobody is wearing masks outdoors anymore. I'd say its close to 5% mask usage outside in Staten Island now. This includes me btw.My first day back in the city.
Ran across the W Burgh bridge a couple times and met friends at the playground on Spring and Mott. Wish more people were wearing masks...seems like it's inevitable this is coming back here. But nice to be home and nice to see people who aren't old and white.
Speaking of inevitable...OC MD has been in full summer mode the last couple weeks. And other than inside stores where they're required, very few masks outside, and not much social distancing either (OC beach has been packed daily). Hasn't hit there yet, but the way things have been tracking in the Carolinas and the way people are behaving in OC, I'd be more surprised if it didn't hit there.
I'd say 70-80% in evil, Les and Soho today.Nobody is wearing masks outdoors anymore. I'd say its close to 5% mask usage outside in Staten Island now. This includes me btw.
Masks are near 100% in my limited observation (RT fm the L to Alphabet City), though a lot of runners have their bandanas down. There’s two old hippies in the 500s of E 11th who are out at 7am every week who never wear masks. I walk by & say hello every Saturday, sometimes we chat for a few. Guess when you’ve gotten through the 70s-early 90s living in ABC this SARS CoV 2 thing is just a big whatever.El Floppo said:I'd say 70-80% in evil, Les and Soho today.
I felt like where we were in MD (ocean pines) was a lot like what I've seen of Staten island...more suburban with houses and far less dense. Masks weren't really worn there much either.. including us... unless we were going to OC or somewhere we knew there'd be more people. But with increased density and more folks walking, congregating and otherwise not social distancing, gotta wear the masks.
Thursday night/Friday morning there were 10 shootings, 14 wounded, 1 fatality. Something like 86 shootings the last two weeks? Year ago it was 26 for the same period. YTD 540, last year it was like 366 through July 1.Two drug dealers were shot last night across the street from my Brooklyn house. Jeebus.
Anecdotally noticing less mask wearing at my favorite Italian spot in the Bronx. Not at the restaurant but the surrounding areaBeen back in NYC this week and seems like masks are still worn very regularly. Would say outside the rate of wearing is down a bit but still pretty good.
Also, did my regular check-up today and got an anti-body test done. We shall see how it came out. Had a bad cough/cold in early feb that I caught from my son but doubt it was Covid but honestly who knows. We shall see...
we wanted to help with that... damn.Live from Trump Tower: "Black Lives Matter" mural being painted.
It's bad enough that DiBlasio allowed painting a political message on a city street but openly supporting it is ridiculous. He's a jokeLive from Trump Tower: "Black Lives Matter" mural being painted.
We all went for a walk on the east River, where I usually run.I've been running almost daily. the numbers are about the same in terms of masks on runners, except more than half of the people aren't wearing them on their faces at all- and not even trying to pull them up when they run by other people (which is what I've been doing).
hopefully what I'm seeing is enough to keep the virus at bay...
and already a murder dismembering on the block. summer in nyc.back a week.
Wear a mask if you can't social distance. Even on an empty block you're bound to come face to face with a hobo or a cop who isn't wearing one.Just got back. Feels so weird. Energy just zapped out. Can't imagine what the fall/winter will be like when outdoor eating isn't possible. Looking at apartments, seems like a bloodbath out there. Good for renters but I'm surprised they're not giving places away. I mean who'd want to rent a pre-war small apartment with no windows or AC?
But so what are the rules exactly? Are we supposed to wear masks at all times? Where I was, masks were more for when you couldn't social distance. Obviously there is less walking in the suburbs but if I'm walking on an empty street, I'm also supposed to wear a mask? If that is the rule, then I see no chance bars, restaurants, gyms open in 2020 which also makes me think I'm better off just leaving.
We were at a store and the woman behind the counter asked a customer to please keep his mask on.eta:... oh... have had a couple of people approach me on the sidewalk to ask me a question- and pull their ####### mask down to ask. I can hear you with your mask on, moron.
I gave it a laugh smiley, but a throat punch smiley would work there in a pinch. We were at a store and the woman behind the counter asked a customer to please keep his mask on.
His reply: sorry, I was looking at my phone.![]()
I guess this is my frustration with it. It kinda feels like temperature checks. Well more effective than that but it seems like it's more for trying to normalize it for the folks who should be wearing them. As you say, runners are likely a higher risk population of spreading it than someone walking outside. And people taking it off to talk with you, that is the whole point of the mask. Talking and running and heavy breathing are way more dangerous than someone taking a walk. Heck, I mean all the outdoor eating seems way more dangerous when you realize folks are out and about with non-family and non-roommates. It's probably not the hill to die on and I'll wear my mask out of respect but everything I've read about the spread, I'm not super worried about some non-compliance wearing a mask out in public. Not that it's the time to get lazy but I'm way more concerned about the fall/winter and opening things back up like schools. I think the numbers have borne that out for the most part although maybe it's too early to tell. But the fall/winter when we're going to rely on a bunch of 8-14 year olds to wear their mask in school? Inside when it's dry because of heat?El Floppo said:yeah... we're keeping our masks on when walking around the hood (EVil/LES) unless there's obviously nobody around.
as mentioned, I'm only seeing 1/10 or so runners bothering. frustrating, considering they're breathing hard and the 6' probably isn't far enough.
and as mentioned, a decent percentage of people wearing masks are wearing them under their chins or noses even when pressed closer to people... why bother?

For me, we try to bring it down as close to zero as possible now by maintaining our vigilance, with the goal and reality of lots of kids being back in school (and public transportation) in the fall.I guess this is my frustration with it. Fair. I guess my point being we're super vigilant about some things but not vigilant about other things. Contact tracing seems way more important than taking temperatures of folks. Wearing a mask in public can't hurt but again, if this virus travels that easily, then it won't matter where we are at in the fall, the city will close again in a month once kids go back and offices reopen a bit.For me, we try to bring it down as close to zero as possible now by maintaining our vigilance, with the goal and reality of lots of kids being back in school (and public transportation) in the fall.
If people start slacking now (already are based on what I'm seeing downtown), the numbers will go up for the fall and make it that much more likely it exploded again. Or that's my thinking, at least.
ETA...masks and social distancing- it's worked in other countries and seems such an easy thing to do.
OC MD finally mandated wearing masks on the boardwalk after the inevitable increase in cases there.6/25/2020 at 9:13 PM, El Floppo said:
any thoughts on what's accounting for the rise there? just an increase in summer/beach travel and traffic?
the way the Carolinas are going, it's only a matter of time before this area of MD gets the whammy... especially seeing how few ####s people seem to give about social distancing or masks here (outside of stores where they're required).
