If you look at the zoning for this school, I can't see how it isn't a quality school... http://newyork.hometownlocator.com/schools/profiles,n,ps%20261%20philip%20livingston,z,11201,t,pb,i,1080246.cfmI lived one block west of 261 for eight years. It is improving, and Inside Schools has a favorable review. Personally I don't think it's on par with 8, 29 or 58 (Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill or Carrol Gardens). But I love that neighborhood and it's only going to get better IMO.we heard both of those things about our son's first school- ps 110 (LES), which we hated. but we're hateful people, so there's that. Not 29, we are basically one street away from being zoned there... In fact everything I have heard is this is the most vanilla school in the city. All the kids get dropped off by their nannies, no parent interaction, etc.. We are zoned pre-K there though.8 or 29? Both are good schools. The challenge is what to do after K-5.Love to leave the city!!! My wife just doesn't want to go... She has been doing HW on public schools and is figuring out we are zoned to a top school, makes my argument even more difficult.![]()
Completely unsurprising FC42 is that guy.
Just move to Dix Hills already.
261, which supposedly is climbing the ranks and loved by every parent who has a child there.
eta: but hopefully it works out for you guys. sooo many involved, caring parents in the city- seems almost impossible for the schools to not get better.
It encompasses Heights, Cobble, & Boerum... My only concern is where Gowanus is zoned to (although in this map it doesn't look like part of 261), I hate to say that, but that is not a nice place and could be a dealbreaker for me. I'd imagine it is very difficult to get my kid zoned into 29 at this stage, even though we are one block away from their zone.
ETA: PS 32 looks like it zoned for Gowanus http://www.greatschools.org/school-district-boundaries-map/?districtId=821&level=e&schoolId=2149&state=NY

), and put me late to work on a day when I needed to be there early to get ready for a meeting. Also shoved us in a jammed subway with the usual dumby yabos.
