Had to buy an umbrella at the hotel this am since mine are home.

Unlike SOME of you MONSTERS, I did not go humungo. Real men don't need to compensate with big umbrellas

yeah- I'm being an idiot... somebody says "I'm seeing a broadway show" I know what they mean. just brain-farted hearing it differentiated from times square like that... disregard.

 
Umbrella officially lost. <_<

BTW, was on the high line today as it was part of our tours for the conference - it's nice in the drizzle and not crowded.

Thanks.I really really enjoyed broadway. My wife wanted to see Matilda and I wanted to see a show so we super splurged on great seats for that. Theatre was incredible and the show was terrific. I was surprised to find out how close Times Square and Broadway are. You think of one as a strip of huckster carnies and the other as this quiet evening out for the social elite......and then you walk up and see a flashing neon GUY FIERI restaurant sign 5 feet in front of your 100-year-old building.

Also, naturally Central Park. Could have spent all week there. Stunning.

I'm not a show guy, but I would highly recommend Jersey Boys... For someone who doesn't typically like Broadway, I found it extremely enjoyable.

Ah yes theatre district. I never knew Times Square was so closely associated with Broadway.

 
Am I missing out on not going to shows? Whenever I go to NYC, people ask, "Are you going to catch a show?" Almost every time I talk to someone about going to NYC, that's the first question they ask. I know it's one of the things you're supposed to do and I'm sure there's a show or two that would entertain me, but I just assume there are other things I'd rather do with my time and money.

It's actually a test. A means of figuring out if we want to share the good restaurants with you, or if we're going to send you to the touristy places that we'd never set foot in.

I thought it was a terrific experience but it depends on what you like. Some people would consider going to a World Series game a great experience. I would be one of those guys they are showing on tv asleep in the stands.

I've been to a bunch of shows and plays, Jersey Boys probably being the best. The weird thing is that I never think much of it beforehand but am always surprised how much I enjoy it while there. It's just a fun experience. I have seen a couple of clunkers and that sucks.

 
Anyone been to a Nets game at the Barclays Center?

I have seats which give access to the Calvin Klein Club and 40/40 sections... The 40/40 sections you have to pay for food, but the Calvin Klein comes with food - Any recommendations?

Done both, prefer the tickets with the free food. Not as good as the free food set up at Yankee Stadium, which is downright absurd, but pretty good.

 
About six weeks left in NYC for me and my wife. We found an apartment in uptown Hoboken yesterday that we're going to sublease (about the only way to avoid a broker fee in that city when renting apparently). I'll have been in the city for over 8 years at that point. Bittersweet.

You will like Hoboken, as long as you can easily get to work from uptown since it's not that close to the PATH.

I love the ferry. It only takes a few minutes and it's the most relaxing and pleasant (with that great view) way to commute. The problem is getting from the dock to the office and the price. The last time I checked it was something like triple the cost of the bus or the PATH.

 
Working on booking my first Airbnb experience up there for the weekend after next on the Upper West side. My school (Lehigh) is playing in Yankee Stadium that Saturday and a bunch of college friends are getting together. Looking for a place close to my buddy's apartment so we can be close for the party but not impose by staying over. Guess we're getting more considerate in our old age.

and is there a worse nightmare for NYers than being randomly shoved off the subway platform? ugh.

 
Unfortunately not death penalty eligible (I think), since it isn't a federal crime, unless they wanted to try some type of terrorist angle.

Hope they do catch the POS. I always take 5-6 steps back when the train comes.

I'd like to say I do that- especially in the mornings with my son.

but the reality of the F train at 2nd Ave in the morning rush is that unless you're standing right where the door opens, you're probably not getting on the train.

I always stand by a column- figure it's helping protecting me from crazies and is a good way of blocking out our turf for getting on the train.

2nd Ave is the worst stop, so many people get on, I try to find a spot in the middle of the train before getting there... It gets much roomier when everyone gets off at BWay/Laff.

I was looking to maybe go to the Radio City Christmas thing on Sunday...

I'll be stumbling around the village Sat night after my wife and kid fall asleep.....

 
I probably should've asked in here... took my BIL and his new gf to Hotel Chantelle for dinner. wow- food sucked. definitely a place for going out, not for eating.

Should have said the trip is the second weekend in December. Dec 12-14

Her best friend moved back to Rye this past summer so we will get together with them, see a show (maybe), do some shopping and see other friends.

Tree at Rockefeller Center is usually a good trip for the kids if you are prepared to deal with the crowds. Could also do Radio City show if you're in the neighborhood.
