Hey if you gonna hit a steakhouse, you need to hit one of the big dawgs.
I looked into it some, but they did not have any reservations at the times I had needed unfortunately.Hey if you gonna hit a steakhouse, you need to hit one of the big dawgs.
Cosign. Did try Strip House? One of my favorites.Hey if you gonna hit a steakhouse, you need to hit one of the big dawgs.
I walk by there every night on my way to the citibikes at grand central... unassuming looking place that looks like the three or four that are on every block around here. better than the rest of those?Have you guys tried Homefront Deli (on 41st between Madison and Park)? It's also a good, no frills deli. Strictly take-out, though.
congrats on the kidDoing Del Frisco's tonight... First night out with the wife since the new baby and could not be more excited. Major mentions Strip House above, prob still my favorite steakhouse, but there are some really good ones across the city.
Never heard of the West Side Steakhouse, but if you can swing it, there is a Strip House also in Midtown, it is worth it.
Anyone eat at Sweetgreen? I've never been a salad craze guy, never got on board with Chop't or any of the like, but Sweetgreen is tasty and low on calories. The Chicken Kale Caesar is great and only 430 calories (I get a little extra dressing, so I'm prob closer to 50 calories).
It rang a bell based on location, not name, so I looked it up...sure enough I've been there with a buddy who used to go there 3-4x a week. I don't particularly remember that lunch standing out but he swore by it and he's a guy I trust. I just rarely cross over 42nd st for lunch so haven't thought of it in a while. I'll give it a shot soon though.I walk by there every night on my way to the citibikes at grand central... unassuming looking place that looks like the three or four that are on every block around here. better than the rest of those?
Youre Gonna love JavitsJust landed. Holy cow, LaGuardia is a hole.
I started working in the area about 4 months ago so I haven't tried many other delis in the area yet. I like it more than the chain types of delis like Metro Café and more than the big multi-food places that have a deli section like Essen. Better prices too. Mainly, it's a half of a block from my office, the food and prices are decent, and I very rarely have time to get more than takeout for lunch. I am going to try Park Italian when I get a chance.El Floppo said:I walk by there every night on my way to the citibikes at grand central... unassuming looking place that looks like the three or four that are on every block around here. better than the rest of those?

Hill Country?Doh! You walked past the best bbq joint to go to one of the marginal ones. It's hard to know. Have a great time.
That would be my preference in that neighborhood for sure.Hill Country?
I figured. Buddy told me they do an all you can eat thing every Monday, including sides, for $30ish. I've been there a bunch but somehow never heard of this. I've also never spent less than that even when trying to limit myself, and that's before sides. Is it the full menu or do they *happen* to be out of moist brisket, etc those days? That would be my preference in that neighborhood for sure.
I'm partial to Hill Country as well. About the closest you'll get to Texas BBQ in NYC. I'm probably a little biased b/c it makes me feel like home.Hill Country?
Yeah I think it's the best as well. I miss the place on 23rd st that closed down a couple years ago. Rub, I think? Their burnt ends were awesome and went quickly.I'm partial to Hill Country as well. Spanish Harlem but I doubt she'll travel north of 96th st. I never had any problems in CP after dark but I'm normally there for concerts, etc. Manhattan is one of the safest places in the US based on my experience. Lots of crazy people but most just mind their business.GF wants me to ask you fellas...any places in the Manhattan area I need to avoid after dark? Central Park ok?
Just stick to the parts of the park where you see people. Don't randomly walk across lawns or down weird alley ways. I doubt that would be in play, but worth mentioning.GF wants me to ask you fellas...any places in the Manhattan area I need to avoid after dark? Central Park ok?
If you don't know the park then there is no reason to be in it at night unless you are there for an event. Stay on the streets.Spanish Harlem but I doubt she'll travel north of 96th st. Its blatantly a rip off of Kreutz's, though they're decently close on their good days - just not nearly as consistent. Also, I think they get the frozen Elgin sausages - they're ok but they lose a ton during the freezing.I'm partial to Hill Country as well. About the closest you'll get to Texas BBQ in NYC. Cow or Pig at a BBQ joint are really the only reasons to go.I like Blue Smoke. I enjoy Hill Country too, but what a ripoff. They opened a Hill Country close to the Brooklyn Bridge that my wife and kid love, I can't escape for less than $40-$50 and that's when I'm trying to limit us. The turkey is great, but like $25 a pound and almost always excluded from their specials. Of course this is what lord ####s his pants and my wife always want. Even like a half chicken and sides for myself is nearing $20 (should be like $8). For a QSR/fast food kinda place, just way too expensive IMO, unfortunately they still get our money![]()
Yep. They actually fly their sausage in from Kreutz. Its blatantly a rip off of Kreutz's, though they're decently close on their good days - just not nearly as consistent. Also, I think they get the frozen Elgin sausages - they're ok but they lose a ton during the freezing.
well, ####.Will we be missing out on much with MoMA closing its architecture and design galleries? Has this closure already happened?
there's a spot near me called Georgia's East Side BBQ that I order from when I have amnesia. imagine dog food with heinz bbq sauce poured over the top. wala.
I think we all have at least one of those "why do I keep on ordering from here?" places. Dallas BBQ for the win. Throw that authentic Texas cue back with a corn syrup filled daiquiri.what, you guys don't like Brother Jimmy's?
sarcasm
oooh. yeah. that's just horrible.Dallas BBQ for the win. Throw that authentic Texas cue back with a corn syrup filled daiquiri.
Did you go to Brooklyn Bridge Park? Should've had pizza in the neighborhood, some of the best in the world around here. So, busy day. 5 mile run on East River. Fantastic. 9/11 Memorial then Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Got to the Brooklyn Bridge and crossed over and back. Subway to Javits for packet. Subway to Times Square. Walked around. Went to Rockefeller Center and did Top of the Rock. Now at Trattoria Trecolori and it's very good. Next stop back to hotel. We are tired.
No, we walked to overlooking that park then turned. I know Grimaldis was right there, too.Did you go to Brooklyn Bridge Park? Should've had pizza in the neighborhood, some of the best in the world around here.
Did you go up on the Pedestal at the Statue of Liberty? Looking like there are no available pedestal tickets leaving from NYC next week. <_<So, busy day. 5 mile run on East River. Have they ever opened up the crown to the public? Always wanted to go up there. I remember being disappointed when I first visited and realized that was not part of the tour.Did you go up on the Pedestal at the Statue of Liberty?
