somebody's always going to be the youngest and oldest, regardless of the date.

the issue for me is that NYC seems alone in using the calendar year I think. seems like most places use school year, which makes people who move in or out a bit out of sorts.

With school year instead of calendar year, this largely becomes a non-issue.  The vast, vast majority of sophomores will turn 16 before their junior year starts.  The vast, vast majority of graduating seniors will turn 18 before they start college.  The majority will turn 18 before they graduate high school (summer birthdays excepted).

I just can't imagine 1/3 of the students not meeting those benchmarks in a given year.  Odd choice NYC has made.

Agree it just is the City is off with the rest of the country.  I am sorry but you really shouldn't be going away to college when you are 17.

I heard the fireworks at night uptown, and thankfully it didn't wake up my daughter. But my buddy downtown had his son woken up at 10pm by them. #######s.

Still a great joint for a burger or chili dog but their taps are and have always been a joke. This is a booze bar.  I'm no longer a regular because of my work move but two of the bartenders will still wrangle me a stool if I come in for a Friday happy hour. 

Fun fact: I share a birthday with the urinals and when I went to the centennial celebration they poured at least a bottle of Jameson shots for me and my group on the house. 

Fun fact 2: much to the frustration of the staff, the owner is a right wing whack job. He regularly posts hand written political diatribes around the bar attacking NY and national liberals. He LOVES Sarah Palin but not so much Trump. The liberals who drink there don't care. Best bar in the hood by far.

Century 21 and those two. Maybe Bloomies or crate and barrel. We've done Ikea for the kids. last towel set I bought was through Gilt... The colors were slightly off from what I thought they'd be- screwed everything up.

just asked the interiors teams... gave me a  ... ABC carpet has great variety. a little pricey, but not killer, and often have sales. that said- too expensive for me... but a normal human being being payed a normal human being wage, sure.

Not a parent and haven't been to Chuck E Cheese since I was a kid, but I am with El Floppo - This is about the kids.  If they like it then the parents should understand and it shouldn't be a problem, especially since it's in the neighborhood.

Yeah...I wouldn't have a problem going.  The only downside to the arcades is parents sort of have to pay attention if they are say under 6.  That's the bigger downside.  One of our sons did a party at Bowlmor which you would think would be horrendous.  It was fine (kids entertained themselves while bowling, they didn't care they were destroying the alleys, and I had an expensive beer), but once we went to the arcade it went downhill especially since they blow through the money so fast.  

That being said, I'm a glutton and taking my son and 6 of his closest friends to the NYCFC soccer match for his birthday.

Can't wait to get home and pillage the goods.

ETA: Governor's Island is real cool for the kids on Halloween weekend. They have trick or treating, hayrides, and a bunch of stuff - we had a good time out there Saturday.

Just had a bum (or a trick or treater in a great bum costume) come into Metro Cafe and beg from people waiting in line.
IDK what Giuliani did with the bums, but it's time something else was done. The proliferation of the homeless is a issue to me.

Horrible for sure- there are 6 dead. It's a tragedy. In terms of weapons, I think there is a big distinction between a real weapon and a paintbull gun. If it was a simulated weapon as NBC said, it's probably not terrorism but someone mentally ill with a death wish.

This is such an unchecked issue in our nation.  It seems to be at the heart of so many of these instances.
