***New York*** (6 Viewers)

FYI for those slimy fat slack jawed midwesterners sorry errrr tourists visiting NYV:

For folks traveling to NYC anytime soon, caught this show last night — The Band’s Visit — went in with low expectations, and thought it was absolutely great.  Highly highly recommend.  Can’t stop thinking about it.

A must see IMO. And just more meaningful than stuff like the lion king or whatever.

YWIA

there's been a big production around the corner all week..."pose"? had a tour bus for their tranportation idling in front of my 2nd floor home/office for half an hour (also sitting in an MTA bus stop- hopefully no wheelchair passengers needed to take the m21).  called 311 and remembered how useless that is, so went down and knocked on the door to ask the driver to power down, which she did. 3 minutes is the max time anybody is supposed to idle, fwiw. their production has also been blocking the bike lanes :shakesfist:
In the old days we’d just burn that bus to the ground.

I'll be back in the old fratty stumping grounds next week, may meet up with a couple friends in the UES... possibly at Stumblin' Inn for some football on Sunday.

  :oldunsure:

I remember going there when Arian Foster blew up onto the world stage. Good times.

I hate that I hate SantaCon... But I hate SantaCon.
That's part of NY though - gonna be things you hate. Gonna be those things in close proximity at times - especially if you don't plan accordingly

Plan accordingly.  But still feel free to hate.  It has always seemed extra douchy.

It represents what the city has turned into... a bunch of thoughtless, lack of consideration and lack of desire for individuality chucklehead amateurs. And there's no escape.

I feel like the worst bridge and tunnellers (takes one to know one?) and folks who barely qualify as that and this is the excuse to just get destroyed and minor bonus is it's their chance to "go to the city"

BTW, with Koya about to be single - and not dead nor dying - the medium arc of life is pointing solidly toward finally getting my own place in the city.

Maybe another year here in Dallas, perhaps an interim in Long Island but being 40s and single I'm gonna wanna be in NYC once I get my #### back together.

Sorry to hear that buddy

It's all good my man. Appreciate the kind words. Was long time coming, and the timing could have been better (hard to have been much worse) - but could get me to the city and in the interim I'm in Dallas.  Target rich and we NYers have a bit of a foreign factor thing going on.

That much better for the small but energetic female crowd that loves them some NY Jewey awesomeness. :yarmulke: (we should get that smiley)

Being an old Dad who won't / can't participate.... I have to admit I really enjoy going out in the city that night - Usually some games on, hit a local bar and watch the Aftermath of the long Day - then i walk around Union Square and watch ppl trying to negotiate Curbs, falling everywhere... So much fun!!!!

Pretty much like Late night on Halloween....

I'm a big Fan of Train Wrecks like that... I mean, if I were at dinner or trying to watch a game somewhere and ppl were vomiting and falling on me, I might not like it but, It's not like I'm going to Brother Jimmy's and asking for it...

holy hell- I completely missed this news. what a year you've had.... yikes.

really hope you're holding up (sounds like you are). look forward to getting the drinks when you're back in the city... if I'm still here.

the difference is that these aren't b&t people any more- they all live here now because it's safe and boring. it's the finance fraternity bros and pr sorority gals right out of college that the city used to chew up and spit out. something to be said for increased safety and not dying because you looked at somebody wrong... but they're the flip side of that.

Ahh. Got ya.  Didn't think they could afford manhattan or the prime areas in BK.

they're taking all the apartments that families would normally take- 2 & 3 BRs. splitting the rent 3 and more ways and getting their parents to act as guarantors. 4 of them are making more than I make, and have parents in the prime of their earning lives to act as guarantors. if we end up having to move... honestly no idea where we could afford.

My gay friend who's been in Hells Kitchen for like 25 years calls them "breeders"

I went out drinking the other night.  Those aren't Curbs.  Those are Cliffs...

New York could be the greatest diss song ever written. By the Pistols. That's my contribution to the NY thread.

I was just listening to it and now EMI.

Wait... where would you go?

Would love to grab a drink with Koya but I’m similarly grounded on weekends with the kids.

Shady-Hole never managed to come together, did it?
It did not. :kicksrock:

Between my health issues and surgery then a surprise move to dallas, momo was lost. I'd fly back for it, though.

That said, @massraider and I are meeting a friend of mine and @Tremendous Upside (RIP Brotha) this Sunday for games... probably at Stumble Inn or someplace else nearby as my friends coming from westchester

@shadyridr - wanna join?

Any else let me know or ill post the final location and just show up. @El Floppo MAY sneak in a beer, but weekends are tough with the kids.

Would love to but have tix to see star wars on Sunday

Headed up this morning NYC bros.  So if you think you saw John Hamm rolling around your fare city, it was probably just your gb JD.
Just keep your huge **** away from us.

edit: That's not censored? Shocking. ####. ####. ####. Okay still works.

Big fan of the Karaoke bar next door, Iggy's.

Proclaimers - 500 Miles was a go to for me (after a handful of brews of course) and was always a big hit with the crowd.

Ill be in the city with teh family for a couple days after NYE.  Suggestions?  Kids have never been to the city and its gonna be really, really cold.  Kids are ages 8 & 10.  Will be staying in midtown Manhattan.

Agenda fire today is Radio City Christmas show, The Ride holiday bus tour, and School of Rock.

Home tomorrow.  Love your city NYC bros.
Hope you had a good time... too bad it was such a crummy day for you. SoR is supposed to be a fun show- wife and #1son enjoyed it. I was just thinking about taking the kids to the radio City show...I remember seeing it with my grandparents when I was 7or 8.

We're on Amtrak about to head to NoVa and the inlaws for the holidays. I already have a headache.

Lots of good shows for kids out right now... SpongeBob (getting raves from critics and our kid friends), school of Rock, blue Man group.

Other than a show, you'll probably want to do the touristy stuff... Up a tall building, times square, etc.

Anything specific you want to see or so? Anything specific the kids like?

You're leaving NYC to go to Nova? Oof...

A show might be interesting.  Whats the best (cheapest) way to get tickets?
