***NFC Championship - Detroit Lions 14-5 at San Francisco 49'ers 13-5*** (-7.5, 52) 6:30 (1 Viewer)

Lions will try to run the ball early, particularly to the outside using Gibbs. SF will go mostly through the air. Unless the Lions can get pressure on Purdy, Purdy is going to throw for 380 and 3 TDs. Getting sacks and pressures by Hutch, Houston and safety blitzes is the Lions best hope on defense. Purdy running ability could be the difference.

A little surprised Lions did not activate Ertz. The could use his big body to block and a second TE pass catching option, but I guess they felt he was not ready.

I think the Lions come to play and make this a game. Take the 7.5 points and the Lions. But the Lions have yet to even slow down an elite reciever 5 weeks straight, so SF should prevail with Deebo leading the way.

I think the Lions are one or two big plays away from San Francisco. It's just . . . that defense is scaring nobody. I wish Dan Campbell had handed the reins over to Jack Campbell earlier in the year instead of Alex Anzalone. Or, I wish Jack Campbell was ready to take over sooner than he was ready.

Don't get me wrong. I'm rooting for the Lions in this one, but I think SF just gets the better of them. I think it's a close game, but not close enough.

Lions will stay close
Break a few kneecaps
But when it's all said and done...

Niners- 34
Lions- 30

As a Bears fan, I feel like I have a lot of kinship with Lions fans. So many seasons of looking up at Favre/Rodgers, and the occasional really good Viking team. I'm really happy for Lions fans to get to their 1st NFC Title game since I was in the 2nd grade. Young me even had a Barry Sanders jersey and a Herman Moore (maybe the most underrated WR of the 90s?) jersey. Those were actually the 1st 2 jerseys I myself got as my Jim McMahon and Walter Payton jerseys were hand me downs.

So it pains me to say, that I kinda think SF is gonna stomp them. I just can't see the Lions defense stopping really anything the 49ers do on offense. I'm of the belief the weather was more the issue last week, than Purdy suddenly being bad.

The Lions secondary is mediocre on a good day, and they also aren't good covering RBs. For the Lions to have a shot, I think they need to get a very consistently good pass rush (without blitzing and leaving easy dump offs for CMC/Deebo) and they need a herculean effort from Amon-Ra as the banged up OL likely isn't gonna open too many holes in the running game.

Per the Gridiron Uniform Database:
  • 49ers will be in their classic red jerseys with gold pants and red socks. They are 7-3 in their traditional home uniform this season, with losses to the Browns, Bengals and Rams.
  • Lions will be in their "Icy Whites", white on white on white. The are 4-1 in the all whites, with wins over Chiefs, Packers, Chargers, Saints, and the loss to the Cowboys.
On the season Detroit is 13-1 in monochromatic uniforms (7-0 in the blueberries, 2-0 in the color rush greys.)

Of all the in-depth analysis I’ve seen, this isn’t.

lol

I’d wish ya luck today, but yeah. Go Niners! :pickle:

Oh wow the 49ers are in some trouble

It’s truly my favorite data set/fashion report.

I hate that the Lions game is after the AFC title game. I want the Ravens to win but if Detroit wins, I would much rather face the Chiefs. So I’m torn on what to root for there. If we get a KC-SF Super Bowl I really might not watch.

From a Consumer Products ‘If Win’ standpoint…these two are the clear first Tier of the 4 options left. Lions are crushing brick-and-mortar…but the Niners are ahead via Ecom. Most expect the Lions to end up as the best option with the post-win frenzy. And probably the largest win overall since Philly.

I'm in the same boat. I would want the Ravens to win only if my team didn't have to play them.

This is why Aiden Hutchenson could be the difference maker. Hutch leads the league with 118 QB pressures this season. In the last 4 games Hutch has has 8 sacks, 10 TFL and 18 QB hits. Hutch's main blocker will be Colton McKivitz, a mid to lower-tier OT who has given up 9 sacks and 58 hurries and PFF has him rated as the 57th best tackle in football. If Hutch can keep up this pace and get a couple TFL and a couple of sacks and some hits and hurries, that can flip this game. And with Houston active, that could even open things up for Hutch or could free up Houston to do some damage.

Purdy is very mobile and allusive, but Hutch, Houston, Branch and Iffy are all pretty good closers.

Feels like they’re gonna double team Hutch. Can’t see the Niners trusting McKivitz all by his lonesome.

IMO this is a statement game for that much maligned 49ers defense. Vegas seems to agree since the props on Niners sacks are all like -150, -135, save for a couple that would be rare/unlikely. IIRC Bosa is -150 for over .5 sack.

Goff isn’t particularly mobile, the field conditions should be good, and Bosa has a lot of recent articles pinned to his bulletin board at this point.

Sticking with my prediction

No disrespect to what SF has built and accomplished over the last many seasons under Shanahan, most fans would kill to roll a team out every week that looks like this
Even the Daggum QB is just a 7th Rd pick that makes accurate passes and stays calm most of the time, how could you not like the story of Brock Purdy? Every team needs a Purdy
And yet I am connected to the Detroit Lions and must root for them today.
I love the head coach, not a huge Goff fan but it would be incredible for him to lead them to their 1st Super Bowl after the Rams vote of confidence a couple years back.
This is not the brain talking but more the heart so I wouldn't put a lot of stock in my prediction today

DET 28
S.F. 27

Something like 14-13 in the 2nd Half and then the fireworks begin late 3rd into the 4th Q with heavy roundhouse bombs reining down on each other.
Last Man Standing

Forward down the field,
A charging team that will not yield.
And when the Blue and Silver wave,
Stand and cheer the brave.
Rah, Rah, Rah.
Go hard, win the game.
With honor you will keep your fame.
Down the field and gain,
A Lion victory!

Can't see how Detroit can win this game, mostly because I feel like their defense will just get carved up all day.

So, this being the NFL, I'm assuming that means Detroit will win easily.

Hoping for the Lions but I think they are outgunned here. No shame. Great season.
This is how I look at it. It might take a miracle for the Lions to win today. A million bells would have to ring and a million angels would have to get their wings. But either way, it's a wonderful life.

Current predictor on ESPN puts the Lions’ chances at 25.9% to win - not really in the “miracle” ballpark. You’ve seen them win games this year they were not supposed to win. Why not?

Go Lions!

My biggest fear is that the Lions are such a popular national story that the refs will hand them the game.
You obviously don't know the history of the refs vs the Lions.

You can say this about pretty much every team

Last years philly vs 49ers game was atrociously called

Oh I do. It I also know the history of the NFL with playoffs and popular teams advancing on questionable calls or non-calls.

Aint sayin it’s gonna happen. Just saying it’s on my list of paranoid concerns.

Hey, anything is possible in the NFL. I have a friend who put a boatload on KC money line today because the NFL wants Taylor Swift at the Superbowl.

I didn’t touch that game.

I actually really liked Ravens -3.5, and I even like Ravens -4. KC is kinda beat up, especially on D, and BAL is a scary good team.

But I’ve learned to never bet against Mahomes.

This is where folks like @ChiefD excel at the reverse jinx, he is absolute Mt Rushmore on this topic especially when it involves the Chiefs
I say that with a gigantic smile, you both are doing a great job of selling who is going to get jobbed today
I truly hope this game does not come down to a couple of Ref calls going the wrong way but as Jimmy Johnson famously said to his Miami Hurricanes
"Don't put it in the Ref's hands" and I would encourage both teams to take this advice.
No crying after this football game.
If the Lions happen to lose, they'll be back, you can bet they are a Top-4 type team in the NFC for several years just like the Niners, maybe this is the new NFCC rivalry

Let's have a great game this afternoon/this evening

Let’s go lions! Think Dan Campbell makes some ballsy calls, going for it on fourth and short, fourth and goal, maybe a fake punt. If those decisions work out and the o line can stop the rush, I think they can win.
