NFL.com boxscore tackle stats (1 Viewer)

On The Rocks

Evil Conservative
We have always used NFL.com as the guideline for where we get out official stats for tackles, assists, sacks.....etc.

Now with the change in NFL.com new and improved site the box score is not matching with the individual players stats.

Here is an example from last nights game:

In the boxscore for Colts LB Brandon Archer it shows he has

7 Tackles / 5 Assists

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/boxscore?gam...7&week=PRE2

But if you click on his name, his detailed stat page comes up and shows his stats for last night were:

7 Total Tackles / 6 Solo / 4 Assists = :lmao:

http://www.nfl.com/players/profile?id=00-0024764

I have checked a number of players randomly the first two weeks since the new NFL.com site went live and it seems they are all like that.

Can someone clarify what the stats are that I am looking at...in case I am misreading something....or can someone provide a nother site to get tackle and assist stats from?

I understand we could just say that the boxscore is the official stat line and the individual players detailed stat page is null and void, but I would rather avoid someone saying that they should have won the season because the defensive stats were not properly scored.

TIA

I can't answer the question directly but FYI in case you didn't know that tackles are an unofficial stat. Thus why you can find different tackle stats on various sites. We have in our rules that whatever MFL provides is our official stat unless the owner can provide at least 3 other sources that say different. MFL is always the same as the NFL Gamebook.

And actually that brings up a good point. *All* the stats in the boxscore and the stats summary are unofficial. The only offical stats that NFL give is the Gamebooks for each game. I'd highly suggest you update your league rules to reflect that the Gamebook is your official source for stats. The boxscore is indeed wrong at times and rarely updated if a stat is corrected.

I did a search for "Game book stats" and it gave me non working link. Do you have a good one?

Sure, it's right on the scores page on NFL.comhttp://www.nfl.com/scores?season=2007&...mp;x=13&y=7

Last link for the Bears/Colts is "Game Book" Every game has one and that's the only official stats source for each game.

By the way, this redesign of nfl.com is terrible. Horrible.

Anyone else having problems getting into some of the gamebooks? I can't get into Baltimore's at all for preseason weeks 1 and 2. :loco:

i get into the gamebook thru cbssportsline.comthis is how I look at old games:

http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/scoreboard/2004/week7 (change the year to what you want, same for the week)

then just find the game and go to game center and click on gamebook

the url for gamebook is:

http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/gamecenter/g...20041024_NYJ@NE

you can just change the date and the match up info but it has to be exact

here is what the URL looks like just sub in WWW for the XXX(did that so it wouldnt link)

XXX.sportsline.com/nfl/gamecenter/gamebook/NFL_20070819_NYG@BAL

i was able to recreate this one http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/gamecenter/g...20031214_NYG@NO

here is NYG vs BAL http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/gamecenter/g...0070819_NYG@BAL

here is PHI VS BAL http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/gamecenter/g...0070813_PHI@BAL

I've cross checked stat lines with the play by play and things there have been screwed up regularly too.

Hope they get this ironed out before they count.

Although....the numbers for Brandon Archer above from the game last week are still off a smidge....I looked at about a half dozen players this morning from the games last night, and it appears this problem has been corrected.Stats from the game center are now matching the stats from an idividual players page.

Just remember that GameCenter is not official and can be inaccurate and rarely updated. The Gamebook is the only thing you can really go by as that is the official game stats released by the NFL to the press.

FYI - From NFL.com FAQ

Are statistics in the Gamebooks official?

No. Gamebooks are prepared on site at each game using data available immediately following the completion of a game. They are intended to provide a snapshot of the game's action and are not updated after stats are made official on Monday mornings. Please note that scoring decisions made on game days are reviewed and frequently adjusted before becoming official. See the Stats section of the site or a player's player page to find official statistics.
