NFL Draft - 1st round mock (1 Viewer)

He now has his 2nd round up. Sorry about the formatting, but that's how it works when I cut and paste.52. NEW YORK GIANTS - Brian Leonard FB | Rutgers
 Any insight on this pick, other than the NJ homer angle? With Jacobs and Finn, why get another big body for the backfield?
I found that one really curious too. He says that Leonard would be a "compliment" to Jacobs. I see them as almost the same guy. I think he whiffed on that one.

With Indy not having a #2 this year, I think they trade out of the first round unless someone like PWilly is there (he won't be). They've done it in the past and I think they will do it again.

What type of comp picks do you think they'll get? A 3rd for Edge? 4th for Thornton?

Let me make a promise to you all. If the Vikings end up with both Gaines Adams & Robert Meachem that I will go out in the middle of the street and literally do a cartwheel. That would be almost too much to hope for. :yucky:
I'd rather Landry... and I think Gonzalez is more realistic, plus would fit better opposite Williamson, who oddly, plays the same game as Ginn.
I could definitely live with Landry, but I just don't think you take safeties at #7 overall. 2.7 seems too high for Gonzalez, IMO. I'd rather have Johnnie Lee Higgins at the #2 spot than Gonzalez. But what do I know? And I don't like the Ginn/Williamson comparisons.
I'd call Williamson a poor man's Ginn. Why not? Williamson's hands are actually alot worse.

If Ginn is Williamson with hands, isn't that a GOOD thing?

64. CHICAGO BEARS - Jeff Samardzija WR | Notre Dame
Thanks Andy. Ya know for all my whining about the weakness of the draft, I quickly thought of about a dozen "missing" names. The first day is going to be pretty good thanks to the 40 juniors who pretty much fill an entire round.
It got a lot more interesting with all the juniors for sure. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened with fewer of them - more trades possibly? One thing I'm very interested in seeing play out is where these 2nd tier tackles (tier 1 = Thomas/Jones) and guards (tier1 = Blaylock) end up. I'm talking about guys like Sears, Staley, Ugoh, Beekman, etc. Never thought I'd say that. Who other than a draft geek cares about tackles and guards!?
If the Lions do not select Joe Thomas at 1.02 they'll be picking up one of these guys at 2.02.I do believe Detroit will have a realistic chance to swap spots with Arizona in the first round, though, and end up with additional Day One picks. This gives the Cards their big guy (Thomas), the Lions select Gaines Adams or Alan Branch at 1.05 and Joe Staley at 2.02.

(Would the Lions then have an additional pick in Round Two, Round Three, or both?)

If the Browns take Quinn at 1.03 I will either find a bridge somewhere to jump off of or I'm giving up on them.

I think Quinn is going to be a bust.

Has he ever had a good game against a good team with multiple potential NFL players on it ?

Jeebus please do not let them take Brady Quinn.

I don't care if you jump off a bridge, but it would be unfortunate if you give up on them over a draft pick you "think" might bust.

He's got Lynch going to Pittsburg. I can't see that happening! They've got the same type of back in Parker. Lynch probably has better moves but I can't see them drafting him. They have bigger needs.

Don't let the highlight reel analysts fool you. They all talk about Lynch like he's some jitterbug Barry Sanders wiggler RB. Totally false. You cannot possibly scout RBs from highlights. Lynch is enormously powerful and he throws defender off him. He pushes the pile with almost freakish power. He is nothing like Parker. Lynch is the very rare, very complete back, true breakaway ability and true power running. The highlights just showcase the breakaway stuff. This guy is very very hard to bring down. He breaks tackles that floor Parker.

:violin: Lynch reminds me more of an Edgerrin James in his 1st season than a Parker/Dunn.

He changed a few things up in the first round too. Despite his stated "over ranked" tag on Hughes, he moved Hughes up to the Giants' slot, and now has the Jets taking Moss. Why has Woodley slipped so much lately? And Carriker has shot up the board? And I'll say it again, why do so many people think the Jets will go with a 'tweener in the first round? I just don't see it.

Is Moss>Woodley as a 3-4 OLB?

Someone said they thought Jacobs and Leonard were the same type of player? I don't see that at all. Leonard is a good blocker and is a much better pass reiever than Jacobs. Finn is a pretty good FB, so I don't know if the Giants go with Leonard.

I would do a cartwheel followed by a backflip followed by a six week stay in the hospital because I can't do either but it would be worth it...lol.

1. All the declared underclassmen.2. Not sure.3. The need for a pass rush is a very common perception. Right or wrong. 4. That is a really tough call. Woodley is a little more LB and Moss is a little more DE. Woodley better against the run, Moss better rushing the QB. No idea who will be better in coverage. I think Moss is a sexy pick right now. That could be the deal with Carriker too.

Carriker is never going to be a guy who puts up routine double-digit sack seasons, but I feel confident in saying he'll be a 10 year starter and one of the most complete run/pass DEs in the league. His size also allows the flexibilty to move him around on the line, and he has the experience and technique to rush from inside on passing downs. I know he's being looked at largely as a 3-4 DE because of his size, but he'll excel in either the 3-4 or 4-3. He's not a speed edge rusher, but he combines better than expected quickness for his size with a nasty bull rush.

As a fan I hope Denver gives him a look at 1.21, he'd really help control the line and tie up blockers for the LBs.

I agree the perception that the Jets need an improved pass rush is correct, but I disagree on how it should be improved. Even in a 3-4 scheme, a team needs more than 6 sacks from both DE spots combined. In total, only 9.5 sacks were by the front three, Ellis-5, Robertson 2.5, Mosley-1 and VonOelhoffen-1. When your NT's have 3 times as many sacks as one of your DE's, there is a problem, not to mention only 17 solos and 11 assists in the tackle dept. Hobson opposite Bryan Thomas had 6 sacks.... how much more productive would another outside rush LB be? And would that help the poor rush defense much? I was really hoping Carriker would be there.... it was only a few weeks ago that he was commonly being projected as an early second rounder. CC.... besides Carriker, do you see any good fits for 3-4 DE's here? Francis seems to be the consolation prize, unless I'm missing something.

McDonald and Carriker (not counting Branch) are the most discussed, but I see a bunch coming from the ranks of DTs. I really like the way some of these guys would work out at 3-4 DE. Dallas is strong there, but I covet Ryan McBean. Jay Alford, Justin Harrell, Marcus Thomas... real solid guys with better than average pass rushing skills for DTs. From the DEs I also think Baraka Atkins (having a nice Shriner week) has the ability and should rank high in this category. Finally, the Hawaiian Alana-Francis, is a real nice prospect (with a torn pec). That's a very decent list, and it's pretty long for a weak draft class. All of these guys look like better than just decent fits. Many say DE is the strength of this draft. It may not be as strong at the top or as deep into the second day as last years so I'm not that thrilled, but as this draft goes, it is a strength. The 3-4 guys look stout when you mix in those DTs.ETA Calling Marcus Thomas solid was not an opinion of his character.

I just don't see the Steelers taking a RB in the first round this year. I still think it will be an offensive lineman, defensive end or a linebacker.

The Falcons should trade up with the Vikes and take Peterson. The Vikings could drop down and grab a WR they need (Jarrett) and get an extra pick out of it. Maybe Schaub and the #10 for the #7 and Vikes 2nd (if the Vikes aren't sold on Jackson).

That makes no sense. Why would the Falcons trade up to get a running back when they have 2 very good ones? One young, and one older.

Because their offense is built around the running game and Dunn is in his last year. Norwood is good, but an injury to him would force Vick to throw the ball 40 times a game and no one wants that.

I don't think a first round pick and giving up additional picks is the best move for them. Maybe try to find another runner later, but giving that much up for a position that is in good shape doesn't make that much sense to me.

I know they need LB help but how sick would New Orleans offense be with TE Greg Olsen at #27?

Who is that Tanard Jackson guy? He is listed as S but the commentary says TEN needs a CB...
He emerged at the Senior Bowl once compared to his peers. He was a big hitting run defending corner at Syracuse, but he looks most natural at safety, probably free safety, but he is tough against the run. He impressed me. He just had a "next level" look about him. I saw very little of Syracuse last year. Without knowing for sure I'm going to guess that functional speed limits him in man coverage, but he would be fine in zone schemes even at corner. His NFLN highlights showed several very alert reads and he makes big plays most DBs would miss. Great instincts or smarts, I never know the difference.

I don't get this one:

58. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Mason Crosby K | Colorado

Carney is money on attempts 40 and in. Everything I read is that they are still very high on him. With needs at CB, LB, and DL, I just don't see a reach for a Kicker here.

Irons is FAR too similar to Leon Washington for the Jets. That pick is bizzarre. As in aint gonna happen even IF hell freezes over. I would not be surprised to see the Jets take an OG like Ramirez with that third pick of theirs. But Irons?

I think rolling the dice on a WR in the 2nd round would be a good move (seems to have worked with Vincent Jackson) since there seems to be about a dozen guys would all could be decent WR's.

I guess I'm not that interested until after free agency starts/the combine either. As a Vikings fan, I'd like that scenario.
I would be fine too, but if Greg Olson were there in the second round, I think I would hope they take him over Rice...although I have not seen a lot of Rice. I know they need WR help, but if Wiggins goes as expected, I think Olson would be more necessary (even though they failed to use Wiggins properly last year).

I'm unsure what role the TE plays in the Childress offense. But Olson would seem to be a good option. As far as the Ravens' picks go, I'm not sure what his thinking is there. I thought Pashos & Terry we're all set to take over at the LT/RT positions.
