NFL draft 1st round trades (1 Viewer)

There aren't a ton of trades in the first round of the NFL, but I thought it'd be fun to predict them here. This is my shot in the dark:

NY Jets trade up to #1 for Reggie Bush

- I'm not saying that Houston doesn't want Bush, but I think NY makes a big move here to land a potential franchise RB. If I could bet this as a long shot in VEGA$, I'd lay $10.

Any other predictions?

Vikings package their #1, two #2s and next year's #1 to move up and take Lienart at the 2nd spot.

I am shooting for the moon here, more than likely Minnesota moves up to #11 and take Cutler.

Green Bay slides back to about the 10-15 spot. Denver makes sense as a dance partner.

Broncos trade their 2 number 1's to move into the top 4 (saints or Jets) and grab Mario Williams
I think they trade their two #1's and grab Reggie Bush. ;) They could probably trade with another team for cheaper if they want Williams, not to mention the fact that he has never played for the Browns.

Nooooooooo! Just take Omar Jacobs with one of the 2nd rounders.Use the 1st on a LB. Take a guard with the other 2md.

Assuming Hawk and mario are gone, how about Raiders at #7?

I would prefer your path as well, but I don't make the calls. The Triangle of Authority will be moving up in the draft to select their franchise quarterback.

There's some squable on a Cowboy's board about them moving up to maybe #8. It would probably require next year's #1 to make it happen. I doubt it would happen. But if it does, and Vernon Davis is on the board, I'd hate to be a defense trying to stop TO/Glenn/Witten/Davis/JJ.

That would be a waste imo. They really don't need another stud te, and if they did they could nab one in the second.the only way a trade up to 8 would be worth it(and it would be a very costly move). Is if it was for a franchise qb like VY.

anyway, I would love to see the texans trade down, but I really don't think it's going to happen.

That would really ruin my day. Give up 4 players and give a all that money to someone who at best won't be useful until year 3 of his career? No thanks.

so the Cowboys are going to run a two TE base set? I like that idea but I don't know about the probability of it.... if they went to 8 they could just as well go for Huff although they seem to say he'd be best as a SS no?

Dallas actually runs a lot of 2 TE packages. So that would not be a change for them.As for Huff. I love him as a player. But you are right, he is more of a SS, not a FS. They'd have to be absolutely nuts to trade 2 first rounders for a free safety. Polamalu isnt even worth that much. Getting a guy to play center field doesnt warrant a first round pick. Its not difference-maker positions.

I could see an argument for a QB at 8. Maybe Ngata. Maybe Davis. Certainly Hawk. But no way on Huff. Or Justice for that matter.

Like I said, I doubt that Dallas would do it.

the cowboys run 2 TE sets a lot.....but that could have been to help the inept tackles with pass protection

They run two TE sets because Dan Campbell is basically a tackle.Having one of Witten or Davis stay in to block every play would be a tremendous waste of their talent and resources.

Thats too much to give up either give up a first and 2nd and move up for cutler or stay put and do this17th pick-Chad Greenway

I'm with ya, I say the Jets trade there 1.4 and 1.29 for Houston's 1.1.

How about this:

NO takes Leinert at #2, which forces Oakland to trade up to #3 with Tennessee to take Young. The Jets take Cutler at 4, the Packers grab Hawk at 5, and the Niners take Mario at 6, leaving Tennessee with Ferguson at 1.07!

Colts draft a TE....or trade down to the 2d to grab a midget safety or LB.
Im afraid if one of the big 4 RB's isn't there we'll trade down and take someone unexpected like Jon Alston LB Stanford.. undersized and fast.. sounds like a good fit, but still.

Between the Jets, Raiders, and Titans, one of them will move up for Leinhart. Nobody is going to move up to number 2 until Bush is drafted or signed by Houston. So it'll either be a last minute trade up to number 2 or a trade up to number 1. If somebody moves up to number 1 for Leinhart, then NO can trade the rights to or draft Bush.

I think the Saints will try to work out a deal with the Titans so that the Saints don't drop too far and are assured of getting D'Brick

Maybe, and while at first I was going to say there's no incentive for Tennessee to move up, if NO shops the pick and lets TN know they can get an offer, it does make sense. Now, I somewhat disagree with Coach's logic here. Take the Jets as a prime example. They might be willing to move up and guarantee themselves either Leinart or Bush, as they could use either. Tennessee arguiably could too. After that you'd have a hard time finding a team that needs both, but New Orleans probably won't move past #4 anyway.

I don't know if this has been said on here yet or not but here is my thoughts.

#1 Houston pick R. Bush

#4 N.Y. Jets Pick D. Ferguson

they then swap picks (ala Manning and Rivers) and Houston also gets New Yorks other 1st rounder

I'm thinking the Broncos are going to somehow land Javon Walker (possibly their second) and then trade Lelie and their 15th to SF for their #6 pick.

They will take Mario, Davis, etc whoever falls to them.

Then at 22 they take either DW2 or White and then trade Tatum Bell for a third rounder.

I don't have Mario there at #6 and IMO Vernon Davis will be taken around #12 so if they wanted to target Super Mario they have to get top 3 and if they wanted to target Vernon Davis they wouldn't have to jump higher than 9 or 10.

I'm thinking Duh Jets will also need to give up a high pick in next year's draft, in addition to their first round picks this year.

Rams trade a 1st (11th) and 4th to the Bills for their 1st (8th). Rams draft Vernon Davis (before the Cardinals can grab him at #10) while the Bills hope Ngata falls to them at 11th.

*Note: This only happens if the 49ers don't take Davis with the 6th pick.

No way the Cowboys trade to grab a future help guy. The Cowboys are built to win this year. They will be looking to add a guy who helps them this year. I am a big Vince Young fan but if the Cowboys drafted him this year I would be completely pissed....that goes for Lionheart or Cutler as well. The Cowboys need an impact player that will help this year. They need a FS and there isn't one worthy of a first rounder. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Cowboys trade this pick away completely or for multiple later round picks.

 I don't mind giving up a lot to draft Lienart, but I am not high on Cutler. My personal preference is for Minnesota to sit tight unless a team offers them a hygamourous amount of draft picks to move down.I usually don't start **officially** attaching a name to the Vikings draft pick until April 1st. Currently I am siding towards, Greenway or Sims. If Winston Justice slips to #17 (unlikely), then they take him.

I would be shocked to see the Titans move UP in the first round
It really comes down to whether they prefer Leinhart over the other 2 QBs as much as many experts do. If they do, the only way they can assure themselves of getting him is to move up. With NO advertising the desire to trade down, offering something in order to move up one spot and ensure themselves of Leinhart isnt a bad option at all. In fact, they are about the only team I think could move up before the draft starts. If they trade up to number 2, they know they get either Leinhart or Bush. New Orleans would then ensure themselves of getting whichever player they wanted anyways while aquireing an extra pick or two. Giving up a little extra for a franchise QB is always an option. The problem with other people's logic is that they assume the Titans are going to be satisfied with one of the other QBs. If I'm an NFL team drafting my franchise QB, I want the guy at the top of my list, not my second choice. When Atlanta traded up for Vick, and the Giants traded up for Manning, it wasnt because they had to do so to get a QB. The Giants could have had their choice of Big Ben or Rivers without trading anything. Atlanta could have had Brees. It was because they wanted the best QB to be their franchise player. If the Titans think the same of Leinhart, they need to trade up. Because if they dont, somebody else will likely jump in front of them. New Orleans is advertising the pick. They are in a position that will draw heavy interest due to Leinhart and Bush being the cream of the draft.

Listening to the radio this morning, I came to believe that the Vikings will absolutely move up to take one of the top QBs.What it will cost and who they're targeting is a mystery to me. But I think the scenario of two #1's and two #2's to get Leinart is not out of the question.

I nearly guarantee it. The Vikings are serious about winning. They HAVE to know they're not going to do that long term with Brad Johnson. Johnson will provide the veteran leadership and McMahon will provide the system knowledge to the new rookie.

I (Almost ;) ) guarantee it.

They run two TE sets because Dan Campbell is basically a tackle.Having one of Witten or Davis stay in to block every play would be a tremendous waste of their talent and resources.
Diesel, yes, Campbell is basically a tackle. Thats why he was not resigned. He posed no receiving threat. FB Polite was not much threat either. Parcells really dislikes the fact that he didn't have another threat at this swing position. I'd have to say that Davis would be a threat to a defense.

Whether he or Witten stays into block does not change their threat to a defense. Last year, defenses could leave a LB for either Campbell or Polite. Witten got much more attention. If Davis were on the other side, then defenses would not know which or both would go out on a given play. Thats much harder to defend.

With their signing of Fabini to play RT and Flozell returning to play LT, Dallas will be much more likely to send out 5 guys into the pattern. Or at least sending out their TEs and only keeping in the back.

So I disagree with your statement that either would stay into block every play. But even if one did, getting a threat opposite Witten would cause defenses problems.

:tfp:

Trying to steer this back on topic. :banned:

Anyway I sort of see Dallas bailing out of the first round to get extra OL help. In fact, I see Dallas spending most of the day trading down and stockpiling enough OL picks that one of them HAS to pan out. The remaining needs just aren't worthy of high draft picks IMO.

The Colts will try to trade ahead of the Patriots and select Maroney.

Edited to say that I would love it if they were able to trade up and get DeAngelo Williams, but that is a long shot.

I think that Maroney is headed to either these two teams or the Panthers.

Two problems with this.....#1 - TO will be pissed enough as it is by having other viable recieving options in the lineup. If TO ain't happy, goodbye locker room.

#2 - You'd have to acquire a QB that can actually play the position.

I agree with #1 and disagree with #2. Bledsoe will make a lot of FF players happy this year.

I am a little alarmed if this sort of message is getting out already prior to April; it can only drive up the cost and I would hate to see the Triangle of Authority overpay.I am excited to see how this plays out because I am sure Minnesota will do everything (and possibly then some) do trade up for whoever they want (which I hope is Lienart).

It was more of a gut feeling than anything else. Their moves signal that they are serious about winning, both now and later. There is no way that they believe Johnson fits into the "later" part of the equation.
