This suxors. Getting together with my friends from out of town will most likely not happen for the 2nd time in 10 years.

and this is bad because?

Personally, get together after work for a couple of beers, dinner, etc sounds like some fun two nights in a row.

Most people tend to dislike change, but I believe it'll grow on everybody. I love the idea.

I hate the idea. I can get on board with moving it to a primetime viewing slot, but not having it on a Sunday just sucks. What is wrong with a Friday, Saturday, Sunday combination?

:lmao:

Hate it.

Ugh,for leagues that have a rookie draft "prior" to the NFL Draft a Thursday night start time is the worse thing possible.

They are going for more airtime, more money and doing that by getting more people to WATCH ON TV. I'm not let down at all by this, and rather like it. You can't please everybody all the time, but you can please more of the people more of the time. This will get a bigger TV audience - hence PRIME TIME - and that's not a bad thing for the league. Maybe even a few more of our work-league guppies will be more informed come FFB draft time. Sunday after the draft FFB drafts with a few draught beers sounds like fun.

The NFL is taking over Thursday nights (at least in the fall.)

I agree with others that have said that this will grow on people after a draft or two.

I like it. Frees up another weekend as Thursday/Friday is what gets my attention anyway. Sunday was bored/Now Satuday will be.

I can see why live fans dissapointed but this helps it made for TV as previously noted above.

Besides how can you be complaining about 2 days sooner? This thing can never get here soon enough for me!

Thursday night? Worst.
No doubt, that is when I watch Cheers and Hill Street Blues......Peace
:thumbup:We knew this was coming, no biggie as far as I'm concerned. What cracked me up is that older thread talking about the NFL's agenda on the upcoming draft(s). Most were up in arms and claiming they were making a huge mistake. Like the NFL doesn't know how to market its product...The only people that hate this are the die-hards. That's not their concern because you're not going anywhere -- they want more, as they should.

Few things beat waking up on a Saturday morning in anticipation of the NFL draft. You're ruining it Roger.

I am on the fence with this. It really sucks for people that had parties on Saturday afternoon and made a day of it though.

Your probably right but it never really pays to screw over your loyal fans. It's the little things that eventually turn someone off and you never know how many it takes.

What loyal fan has gotten screwed over?

Thursday night is the #1 and top time slots on television. All the big shows in the history of TV run on Thursday. Or eventually made it to the pinnacle of programming.

Short sighted as usual. The NFL draft like the Superbowl is an event for people to gather and be together while the football product and commercials are on. There are going to be your core people that would watch it on a Tuesday at 2am if that's when they decided to show it, but there is a larger football fan base that goes to these poker games/ parties for the social aspect of it. Without the social aspect of it I would imagine that more people would just DVR it do something else for an hour or two and fast forward to see who their team drafted.

Round 1 will basically run in the same timeslot that a Thursday night football game runs. Are all you guys complaining telling me you don't get together with buddies and watch Thursday night football ever?

Not really, gotta work on Friday.

This move totally sucks, no way around it. It will kill parties all over the country. Nice job NFL.

This is why I thought Friday night was a good plan. Play poker, watch the draft, get drunk on Friday night. Most of us work Friday, so the party would either be much less intense or we'll be hungover on Friday. course, it gives us something to talk about on Friday, so it's not all bad. I'm not going to tape the draft just to see who my teams draft, I can look the names up online.

I think this is a great move.

I mean, c'mon - the Superbowl is essentially primetime on a Sunday - and everyone works Monday. No biggie. There's Monday night games, and Thursday night games. They don't suffer. I don't see how this is anything but good for the NFL and its fans. Make rounds 1-3 prime time "events"? No-brainer. Personally, I prefer it (didn't do the Sat draft party thing anyway).

I'm wondering if this actually affects draft strategy for some teams, as the first round will now be an even bigger deal than it already is. I could definitely see a team on the fence between, say, an O-Lineman or a big-name RB in round 1 go with the RB, as it's a far more interesting pick for the fans ("on the fence" being a key phrase here.)

maybe.IMO the bigger difference in the actual draft will be the number of moves at the start of the 2nd and 4th rounds.

I like it, but understand why those that make it a big party don't. I usually have some kind of sporting event that the kids are in on Saturday and have to miss the first round (or a big part of it), so really like the move.

I like it but I guess I seem to be in the minority with that.

As I get older it has been harder and harder to block off an entire Saturday or even a chunk of it to devote to the draft, I like having it on a Thursday night, I can get out of the house and get together with some friends for beers and watch the first round.

The loyal fans who built a tradition around it. My out of town friends and I always have an all day party during the draft. What's the point in an all day party for an event that is only going to last 3 hours and you have to go to work the next day? The old draft was almost like a holiday. This is just like another prime time TV show. Nice. Being married and a father I don't party on Thursdays. I can't say that I will even watch the whole thing. Without the party, I will probably have NFL Radio on in the background and switch over the TV when its time for Dallas to pick. Or just catch the pick online since the ESPN coverage is usually horrible anyway. All they will do on Friday and Saturday is talk about what happened on Thursday night anway.

The ones with Saturday traditions, and the rest of us who's wives happily gave us Saturday to do our thing. Won't happen with Thursday and Friday nights. There are other 'traditions' after all. DVR is the only real option. And thank god for that.As for the poster you responded to, RIGHT ON! Greedy corporate entities over-estimate their audience's tolerance for messing with our old or new cultural icons for cynical, money grubbing purposes. It is a testament to the cap gods that the NFL didn't blow themselves up with free agency and players making 5-10-now-100-million-dollars...with fans footing the bill with ridiculous ticket prices and endless merchandising. One slip, I mean it, ONE slip, and the NFL could lose a bunch of people like the MLB and the NBA. Those 2 leagues are dead to me and many others. I may be in a minority, but I am not alone.

This is a good point here.

Horrible idea. I looked forward to spending a Saturday afternoon/evening watching the draft. Now it's on a weekday? Ugh...

Exactly. Same here. NFL Draft Saturday is a holiday for us. People come in from out of town and we all have a big BBQ, keg and football followed by poker at night. Wives are happy to get rid of us for the day.It was this type of thing that made the NFL draft so popular in the first place. It had the feel of an "event" that you gathered together with your friends. Now it's just another Thursday night, gotta work the next day, not really worth going out for. Ho-hum. This is a terrible move by the NFL. Even worse for those on the west coast *who'll still be at work*!It wouldn't have been as bad if they had moved the 1st round to Friday night. That makes it easier to get together for parties as no work the next day.It was bad enough they started at 4pm this past year and it went so fast it was over by 7. It was MUCH better when it started at noon and went all day. MUCH better. Thursday? NFL=Fail

This is just getting worse. I didnt like the bump back in time in the first place. It was awesome to go down to the stadium and tailgate like it's the first game of the year. Now starting on Thurs night, wont happen at all. And by the time the Saturday draft rolls around they are going to be in the late picks that relatively speaking just dont matter. Meh. I understand they are trying to get more "casual" viewers, but at the cost of alienating the fans that made the sport as popular as it is in the first place? The only way it will change is if people boycott/dont watch, which wont happen for the hardcore guys anyhow. Oh well. All good things must come to an end I guess.

The NFL is taking over Thursday nights (at least in the fall.) I agree with others that have said that this will grow on people after a draft or two.
I can't wait till they move the championship game to "Super Bowl Thursday"
