The NFL announced Thursday they are moving the 4:15 p.m. Sunday kickoffs to 4:25 p.m. to reduce overlap with the 1 p.m. games. (The 4:05 p.m. game times will not change.)

The league released the following statement:

“In researching the kickoff time shift, the NFL analyzed games from the 2009-11 seasons and found that 44 games required part of the audience to be switched to a mandatory doubleheader game kickoff. With a 4:25 PM ET kickoff time, that number that would have been reduced by 66 percent to only 15 games. Approximately 40 games over the full 2012 season will be impacted by the 10-minute kickoff time shift -- with half of those moves coming in games played in Mountain or Pacific time zones with 1:25 PM or 2:25 PM local starts.”

One of these days, the NFL will wise up and ensure that no west coast team traveling east has to play an early game. The stats are ridiculously skewed in those games.

Wow I love this. Sundays can be grueling when you're starving but don't want to miss any action. 10 extra minutes to scour the fridge or order a pizza will be nice. 1st world problems haha

Also 10 less minutes to get anything done on Sunday between the 4pm games and SNF. :o

This is a good thing. The delay from the end of the afternoon games to the start of SNF is too long. I can only watch the same clips narrated by Bob Costas over and over so many times.

I wouldn't mind seeing the 4:05pm games moved to 4:25pm as well. What really is the difference between the 4:05pm games and the 4:15pm games? If early games are going long, they are going long for both the 4:05pm and 4:25pm kickoffs.

How the hell does that make sense? Why not start ALL the afternoon games at 4:25?

My bladder thanks the NFL.

Do you guys not have DVR?
Do you only watch one game at a time? I know a lot of people like the Redzone Channel but I prefer the Game Mix Channel because I can focus on whichever game/player I want. The downside is if you pause or rewind, it won't let you navigate between the different games when you unpause it unless you forward it back to live T.V.

Usually the 4:05 games are the first game with the local team in the area. If Oakland is playing at home on CBS and it isn't a double header...you likely have an NFC game on Fox at 1:00 and then you have a 4:05 start time on CBS with no interference of another game on that network beforehand.but if CBS is going to run NE/NYJ at 1:00(National Game) and then a 4:15 Denver/San Diego (National Game), now that has been backed up to 4:25 as most of the country is watching those games.

We have a two TV setup in my living room during the season, one on RedZone, one on Raiders/best game on TV. I usually make the bathroom run during Raider commercial breaks, but have trained my bladder for halftimes. It's a Zen-like discipline.I have tried three TVs, but I think two is the max a person can realistically enjoy.
