NFL Network being dropped (1 Viewer)

"We think it's asinine that Time Warner (the nation's No. 2 cable provider) carries 12 shopping channels and 50 other channels you don't want — but can't find room for one dedicated to the most popular sport in this country," Palansky says.
This quote is on the money. There are so many garbage channels available on Time Warner (which I currently have but will be losing in a few weeks) and they won't add a channel that appeals to a very strong and powerful demographic. Asinine is being kind.
It's all about the Benjamins buddy. Somehow, someway, I don't think the 12 shopping channels added together, are charging Time Warner as much as NFL-N wants.
Agreed. But how much more could the cable companies get if they had The NFL Network as part of their packages and promoted it heavily compared to the ones that didn't? Seems to me the cable companies here are being a penny wise and dollar foolish or however that adage goes. :)

I've considered DirectTV, but have two major issues.

1) Need high speed internet and Adelphia's service is great.

2) Outdoor Channel doesn't come with any of the competive packages.

Just get Direct TV. It has had the NFL network from the start and it aint going anywhere.
Bingo.Another reason why Time Warner blows. I hate the cable companies, and TWC is the worst of them all. As a DirecTV customer, I'll never go back to cable.
 agreed!I went with DirecTv in '04 just for The Ticket. Since then they have been MILES ahead of Cable in Customer Service and just as good,if not better,in programming. With the launch of their new satelites the HD programming should improve significantly. Pay your bill on time you get on their "A" list and they can't do enough to make you happy.
:goodposting: I was so committed to getting DirecTV that I stopped by Radio Shack in the midst of moving to my current home 4 1/2 years ago to get set up. I am no longer held hostage to the cable company and what they decide what game I'm going to see. I'm in control and I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cable TV inhales so deeply, I go back to CATV over my own dead body.

Having worked with and had to deal with the cable company (I work for an electric company), you can't possibly believe they stay in business as stupid as they seem to be. I don't think they know enough to get in out of the rain. It wouldn't surprise me that they would throw away money in order not to put on a channel that would deliver eyeballs and possibly more ad revenue.

Can you just keep your internet service with Adelphia and get the Dish? Last I got DTV but kept my high speed internet service with Cox.

Yeah...but it will cost me more.NFL Network < $10 per month in my pocket plus the Outdoor Channel

When I swithced to DTV I got Earthlink for my internet service. same line Brighthouse came through on and they were $5 less a month

will the NFL network be showing training camps?
Yes. They're expanding the coverage they had last year. One of the more interesting programs if your a football fan. They set up a camera in a tower and follow practice,drills,7 on 7 driils, etc. They'll have Rod Woodson and other ex players commenting on what's happening, the purpose of a particular drill, what to look for, what the coaches are looking for. very interesting at times.

What gets me is how my Cable bill has been nickle & diming me to death.

First came Digital cable - extra few $ per month + rental fee for box & remote.

Then came HD upgrade - few more $ per month + silghtly more $ for HD box & remote.

Now for the NFL-N I'll need to up-grade my Digital package - few more $ per month.

I pulled out some old Cable bills from the good old analog only days and compared that to what I'll be paying shortly.

It's a $45.00 per month difference.

I could give a rats rear end about all the extra channels that go along with the up-grades. The NFL in HD & NFL-N is what I want.

So for me, it's a $540.00 per year increase...just to get the NFL in HD & NFL-N. :(
I guess I'm finally at a BIG advantage now up here in Canada as all we have to do, via Ted Rogers (aka the Blue Jays owner), is have it as one of my 10 digital channels that I already have paid for, so for THE Network, it hasn't cost me a dime more. :D

I bet if you had the NFL network you'd value it more.

Well it seems that dispite the NFL's Blitz.

Time Warner states it will not carry the NFL network??? At least for this year

heck Time Warner advices you to get Dish Network if you want the NFL Network? Or at least several of the reps I have spoken to in Time Warner San Antonio Cust Reps have given that info.

So after talking the wife into it with getting Direct TV and how it is price comparable to TimeWarner. ANd on top of that Direct TV is tossing in a free portable DVD Player.

So I get NFL Channel, NFL Sunday Ticket and camps are opening..Man it like Christmas. :pickle:

Just have to wonder what the wife is going to want in return

Apparently you've never deal w/Comcast. No friggin way would I pay extra for NFL Network. $40+ a month for cable is already obscene. Oh well.

Maybe so. NFL football and hunting/fishing are pretty much the only thing I watch on TV. The rest of the time I'm out doing.

I've called my cable company about it several times and they say they are going to be charged 210% over the price they were quoted initially for the Network. That is why they are not going to carry it.
then they shoulda had vision and SIGNED for the NFL-N b4 the NFL-N got NFL games. Now they are WORTH 210% of their initial price.

Cable co.s SUCK - they are just going to pass whatever price they pay on to their customers with an FCC/PUC approved rate hike - so SIGN already.

Edit - as the NFL season gets closer, the NFL-N aint gonna get CHEAPER.
:goodposting:

I have digital cable and have been asking Bright House to get the NFL network for the longest time. Now i hear that they are having a dispute. I will pay whatever it takes to get that channel. JUST GIVE ME THE CHANCE TO VIEW THE CHANNEL!!!!

I won't switch to DirecTV because of the digital combo deal they have here in central fl. (Cable,Internet and Phone)

Did you know you could still get your phone and internet in a reduced package from Earthlink(through Brighthouse but cheaper than brighthouse),then you could get DirecTv. Central Florida here alsoeven if I had to pay more for DirecTv they outclass Brighthouse in every way. made the switch 2 years ago a week before Charlie went over the top of our house. DirecTv's customer service blew brighthouse away like Charlie blew my roof away, try 'em,you won't go back.

???digi-cable is 40 per month - same price as satellite's basic programming.

p.s. - and from what I have heard about T-W, Comcast is a DREAM.

I have nothing but nice things to say about Comcast here in Denver - they have run the cable system way better, and way nicer, than both TCI and ATT did.

We need to flag this appropriately first: :hijacked:

Don't mean to change the subject but does anyone know if Direct t.v. will ever get Howard Stern?
The answer is no. Stern is with Sirius satellite radio and as such IIRC Dish Network; DirecTV is affiliated with XM.

Asinine is being kind. I'm moving in a few weeks and will be losing Time Warner and getting Charter. Charter previously had The NFL Network but no longer does. When I spoke to a Charter rep they said they're still in negotiations and hope to have it re-added to their package by Sept. 1.

We'll see.
They won't. The cable companies will keep telling you "We are still in negotiations blah, blah, blah." It's all a crock. They just want another month squeezed out of your wallet. They will tell you anything to keep you pacified and keep them paid. Do yourself a favor and puchase DirecTV if you want the NFL channel this year. I feel the pain you are about to go thru this year as I had a similar battle with my cable company a few years back. As far as all the garbage channels they do provide, guess who owns them? With the advent of DirecTV cable companies knew they would lose market share so they decided to produce thier own channels to keep the bottom line afloat. Comcast (my provider) owns QVC, Speed Channel, Golf and 6 others I can't think of. They make money on their ads.

Not sure if every state has it or not, but check and see if their is a Cable Addvisory Board and see when they meet. Most companies send the company spokesman to the meeting but you will be afforded a turn to speak about your issues. If your city & state have the meetings and you want the NFLN badly enough this is the route to take. If you need some help on where to start let me know.

the amazingly pathetic coverage that NFL Live is giving training camps right now only highlights this glaring hole in my life even more

I heard the NFL Network's radio add this morning in Tampa:

"Don't let Time Warner ruin your NFL Season."

Just get Direct TV. It has had the NFL network from the start and it aint going anywhere.

Yep. I called two weeks ago to confirm what a buddy had told me about an automatic rebilling for the Sunday Ticket, in 5 installments at a lower price. The customer service rep confirmed the auto renewal, then gave me three months of Showtime/Encore premium movie channels, absolutely free. I guess I'm on the "A" list b/c I have my bill electronically deducted from my checking account each month.I love DirecTV. Cable sucks.

My Adelphia is getting bought out effective Tuesday AM and Time Warner is dropping NFL Network.

I don't want to wait for negotiations to happen over a year to get NFL Network from Time Waner.

I found that Dish Network is much cheaper than Direct TV if you are only looking to get NFL Network (Dish doesn't offer NFL Ticket). I have to decide whether I want to pay more for the Direct Package and buy NFL Ticket or just go with the Dish Netowork which is cheaper and I never had NFL Ticket anyway.

I found I can get the Dish Netork for about same price as Time Warner, but Direct TV would be about 14 more bucks a month (that's without the ticket). :hot:

COMCAST SUBSCRIBER HERE

I just received a letter that Time Warner bought out Comcast and I will not be a Time Warner customer. :hot: :hot:

Call Directv and tell them your dilemma. They may give you a discount on your bill and some free channels or equipment like an hd dvr. I have been their customer for 6 months and I just got a free hd dvr and a $10 discount for 12 months for signing up for hd service.

Damn trees here in Northern Wisconsin! :hot:

Charter doesn't carry NFL-N. And we can't get DirectTV because of the lovely trees covering the southern view of the sky. I'd switch tomorrow to DirecTV if I could. My work pays for 5GB internet anyway. :P

What does Time/Warner have against the NFL Network?
i think the dispute is whether it's part of their standard package or part of a premium package :(
But it's not even available as part of the premium package. If you have Time-Warner, you can't get the NFL channel at all, at least in my area, unless you get DirecTV.
Same thing here in WI with Charter. That's why I'm getting Direct TV hooked up tomorrow. :pickle: Take that Charter :boxing:

So I take it TW would either have to charge more for basic, or eat the cost of the NFL Network. They want to be able to have yet another "package" to nickel and dime us with. So I would have to pay for all these seperate things

-digital cable

-HD-DVR

-HD

-HBO

-Remotes

-And then a sports package as well :loco:

I've been going back and forth with Charter on this all summer and I got the impression that nothing is going to happen. I got some crap how I wasn't losing games blah, blah, blah....basically they were insulting my intelligence. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you...hopefully Direct TV will be an option for you. I have absolutely no faith in Charter.

But the question is what else would you want them to do? If they add it to the Basic service, which is what NFL-N is trying to force, then either they have to raise the price of basic for everyone, or they have to eat it. Well they're certainly not going to eat it. That's ridiculous. So they are proposing it be part of a sports package, which is where it should be. I get the TW Digital Sports Package and it has the Speed Channel and an all-NBA channel and stuff like that. That's where NFL-N belongs, even though they want to act like ESPN. They're just not there. I actually support TW in this. I wish NFL-N would wise up and give it to me in my Digital Sports Package.

I'm in the same boat here. If they do have a sports package what would they put in it? CSTV(College Sports Television) NBATV NFLN and what else? Maybe they can add a channel called Fight Network. It's a channel that plays alot of MMA(Mixed Martial Arts). I would pay for that package if it was available.

I think my digital sports package here in Charlotte also gets all the Fox Sports channels, WEST, EAST, etc.

Brighthouse doesn't even give us one Fox Sports channel. Jeez.....The only fox sports channel we get is the fox sports soccer channel.

Why is the friggen Golf Channel part of the regular package then? I have a hard time feeling sorry for the cable companies whose rates have increased about 4X the rate of inflation over the last 10 years. I understand part of the increase is due to the advent of High Definition Television but even people who don't get those channels have seen huge increases as well.

I miss the old days of the big dish... when you could subscribe to particular channels and didn't have to pay for channels you wouldn't watch.

That's a good point. I'm sure that TW is not exactly inoccent in this disagreement. But NFL-N is taking the wrong tact from my point of view. Instead of just getting it in front of some viewers as part of a sports package and then trying to make it basic, they just want to go right to basic. Not a great strategy, IMO.

I sorta see both sides to this one, but I just want the freakin channel. I had no problem getting the old Adelphia digital package and I basically just watched a few of those extra channels (espnnews, espnclassic, espnu, gameshow network, nfl network). So if TW put the nfl network on basic, and raised everyone's prices, I bet they would see alot of people jump down to basic from the digital package. That must have TW concerned also.

You have to pay extra for the speed channel? That is on the basic lineup on brighthouse.
