NFL ... "No Fun League" -- they mean it this time! (1 Viewer)

Can't wait for the first Patriots opponent that does a TD dance that ends with him making a gun with his fingers, getting a teammate to get on his knees and beg for his life, then he shoots him in the head.
Hmm... Stevie Johnson seems dumb enough to try that one, so maybe... week 1?

Ridiculous but then the NFL has been getting worse every year. I guess it is for player safety cause you hate to see a career ended prematurely due to an improperly done sack dance.
Don't laugh... didn't we have a player nearly blinded by a penalty flag and two of the Gramatica's (Martin & Bill) tear ACLs celebrating Field Goals?

I don't mind TD celebrations but pointing after a first down is a joke.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

That one might be a 20, maybe even 25 yard penalty. It's own special ruling.

I for one love the celebrations and wish they would allow more...like in soccer. I mean really...these guys are professionals getting *paid*...do we really think their spirit and soul is crushed even if an opponent spins a ball towards them???

As someone else mentioned, I'd love to see organized team celebrations...like the Jets doing the flying in formation plane thing that teams do in soccer. Geez, it's a game. Maybe in 10 years as a player breaks a run towards the endzone the TV will black out and yellow font will come on saying "Touchdown Scored.".

The political correctness & big business bureaucracy is now entering the field of play.

I think it should be rather easy to distinguish unsportsmanlike stuff, and celebrations.

If a guy scores and does a dance or something with his teammates, or even (though I hate it) points for a 1st down on a 5 yard catch in the 1st quarter.................all that is different than taunting and directing idiotic childish insults towards an opponent.

Allow one, but not the other assuming it isn't so over the top that is causes an issue.

What's wrong with celebrating after YOU WIN?

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong on this. I haven't seen it but perhaps the game of, say, baseball, would benefit from seeing Justin Verlander after every strikeout, throw the ball in the air and pantomime raising a shotgun and blasting the ball out of the air. It's just fun! Just celebrating! YEEHAWW!!

Because there is a pretty clear difference when a guy makes a big play when 11 giant men are trying to rip his head off.

Not to mention, quite a bit more goes into a nice play in a football game than one pitch to a batter.

Comparing baseball to football doesn't make any sense. At all.

Not saying let them do whatever they want, but some of the things they are cracking down on are things that might not even be penalties in peewee leagues.

It strikes me as very strange to describe Driver's celebration as "pointing." He was obviously making the first down referee hand signal.

Do you point with all your fingers?

Meh, don't really see the big deal either way. It will be annoying to see a bunch of penalties for this, but I also won't be watching my team score a touchdown and think "CRAP, if he could only do a DANCE now!"

It does get me wondering, though.....is the Lambeau Leap taunting/unsportsmanlike?

Totally agree with whoever said earlier that the "throw the flag" move should be banned, for sure. Can't stand seeing that on every single play. Any begging/arguing for a call should be a penalty.

It's a problem because there is going to be 10 more penalties every game, many of which will probably kill a drive that would normally have kept going, or even prolong a drive after the defense makes a play. And it will be on stuff that likely shouldnt be a penalty.

I don't think too many people care if they dance or celebrate or not. I DO however think a lot of people (including yourself probably) will be really ticked when your team is forced to punt instead of getting a 1st down because of some ref thinking a guy celebrated just a little bit too much when he probably did something pretty minor.

Everyone realizes this stuff will only be called when it's done towards the opponent, right? A player in the endzone spiking the ball, hitting a home run, or doing a salsa dance will continue to be fine as long as he's facing the crowd and not taunting an opponent.

It's all still stupid, but it seems like there's some misunderstanding here.

Why not just fine the player who does it? Why do they have to punish the team for something that has no bearing on the game?
