NFL Trivia Quiz (2 Viewers)

OK gang... no NFL games today, so let's have a little trivia quiz.

The basic rule is that a color is included in every answer. And they are pretty normal colors; I'm not trying to trick you by using things like mauve or chartreuse.

1) Bears' Hall of Famer named Harold.

2) A current NFL team has a fictitious bird on its helmet. What are this bird's colors?

3) 1st overall NFL draft pick - player name and team name.

4) These three players tied for first in NFC receptions one season in the 80s.

5) This team holds the record for the most points scored in one quarter in the Super Bowl.

6) Jim Taylor GB won the NFL rushing title in 1962 with 1474 yards. What was the significance of this in another player's career?

7) 29-446-3, 30-506-0, 83-1202-6.

8) This team had the best league record toward a championship, but was suspended from all league rights and privileges (including the right to play for the NFL championship) after playing a game against a team of college All-Stars despite being warned not to do so by the NFL league president. Later, in 2003, the NFL decided to examine the case, but voted 30-2 not to reopen it. Who was this team?

9) Roger Wehrli is in the Hall of Fame. What is unique about that?

10) Earl, Robert, Don, Johnny, Clarke, Mike, Arnie, Vince, Tony, Jim, Forrest, Bart, Ray, Herb, Willie, Jim, Paul, Willie, Henry, James, Reggie are all what?

11) Frankford

12) Super Bowls II, III, V, X, XIII

13) What is Ronnie Lott famous for doing so that he could continue to play in 1985?

14) Alan Page, Carl Eller, Jim Marshall, Gary Larsen (then Doug Sutherland).

15) 1980s QB Todd who was born in the same city where the Hall of Fame is found.

Answers in post #39

Have fun. ;)

#2, 10, 14 are correct.#3, 15 wrong.

#5 yes, but you gotta say REDskins! (35 points in the 2nd qtr in SB XXII vs DEN).

#6, almost... right player, but the significance is it was the ONLY year in Brown's career he didn't win the rushing title. He won it in 8 of 9 years from 1957 to 1965, then retired.

#13 - where's the color?

#4 is a great question. :goodposting: I looked it up. I would be surprised if even the above average super fan knows this without having heard it before.

That's one I always liked. I was doing FF that year and so I noticed it at the time. Really weird that 3 guys with names that are colors tied.

Todd Blackledge?

Question #9 I have no idea the significance or uniqueness of Roger Wehrli's HOF presence. He was a St. Louis Cardinals defensive back. That's all I know. I have no idea where the color fits in?!?! :jawdrop:

Re #9 -- Instead of :jawdrop: people have been using another :______: in its place. Does that help?

Hints:

#4 -- all were WRs, 1st half of 1980s.

#7 -- current player

#8 and #11 -- pre-depression years (yes, I really dug deep for this quiz)

#12 -- I don't know what hint I could give without giving it away... I'll have to think on this one.

Here's the answer to Question 4: The below WRs led the NFC in receptions with 78 apiece

Earnest Gray, NYG

Roy Green, STL

Charlie Brown, WAS

Correct on the NFC reception leaders, guys. With 78.

Although, 5 AFC guys caught more than they did.

1. Todd Christensen*+ · RAI 92

2. Ozzie Newsome+ · CLE 89

3. Kellen Winslow* · SDG 88

4. Tim Smith+ · HOU 83

5. Carlos Carson+ · KAN 80

6. Charlie Brown*+ · WAS 78

6. Earnest Gray · NYG 78

6. Roy Green*+ · STL 78

9. Ron Springs · DAL 73

10. Steve Largent+ · SEA 72

11 down, 4 to go.

Totally cheating now...

#11 is the Frankford Yellow Jackets

From Wikipedia - The Frankford Yellow Jackets was a professional American football team, part of the National Football League from 1924 to 1931, though its origin dates back to as early as 1899 with the Frankford Athletic AssociationFootballResearch.com. The Yellow Jackets won the NFL championship in 1926.

#8Cleveland BROWNsGREEN Bay PackersWashington REDskins
Nope. Neither #8 or #11 are teams still in existence. Unless you happened to accidentally hear about these teams somewhere (or remember the 2003 NFL blurb about #8) you'd never get these without looking them up. I have some Wikipedia links for them.

Right. It was the only YELLOW I could find!

And as for #8, the Yellow Jackets had a role in this other team being suspended in 1925 because the Yellow Jackets were supposed to play a game in the same city where the All Star game was played, and this violated territorial rights.

I'm going to give away #8 because I have to get going. So, a warning that if you don't want to see the answer, stop reading here.

The team is the Pottsville Maroons, and the 1925 NFL Championship controversy was apparently a big deal back in the day. Amazing to me that the NFL was actually revisiting this in 2003.

Here's the Wikipedia link:

7) Roddy WHITE's 3 years' receiving stats

8) Pottsville MAROONS (1925-1928)

9) Wehrli is the only WHITE cornerback in HOF

10) These are the 21 GREEN Bay HOFers

11) Frankford YELLOW Jackets (1924-1931)

As an Eagles fan, I knew this. They played at Franklin Field, which IIRC became JFK (where Live Aid was) and the precursor to the Vet.

And I have a Yellowjackets hat somewhere....

Franklin Field and JFK are/were different stadiums. Franklin Field is the home field for the University of Pennsylvania and still exists. JFK used to be called Municipal Stadium but was renamed JFK after the death of President Kennedy. This is the stadium they played the Army-Navy game in for many years, as well as the Live Aid show. The Eagles also played here in the late 30's. They tore it down to build the Wachovia Center, where the Sixers and Flyers play. The Eagles played in Franklin Field in the late 50's & 60's. In between JFK and Franklin Field they played at Connie Mac Stadium/Shibe Park (same place with different names) which was the home of the Phillies and A's. They moved in to the Vet in the 70's.
