per Richard Deitsch, SI writer:

NFL Network has confirmed that Joe Theismann will join Bob Papa & Matt Millen in the booth for its game coverage this season.

Better than Gumbel.

All I got.

Mute button, don't fail me now. Now that ESPN has Gruden, this is easily the worst booth ever. BTW, how does Matt Millen keep getting jobs involving football? The Gods must be laughing.

I think the NFLN should just pull three random fans entering the stadium for each game they broadcast. It'd be cheaper and they'd have more credibility than Matt Millen. That guy doing color for the Michigan game this weekend was just a kick in the nuts. Seriously, keep him out of big ten country.

I'll take Howard Cosell and Don Meredith over these clowns any day. I can see many Thursday night games this year with either the radio play by play or soundtrack by Megadeth. Matt Millen absolutely sucked as a GM and now he is gonna' educate me on the game. Joey Sunshine is also gonna' blow smoke up my tail with his lame observations. I cannot believe that the channel that is owned by the NFL cannot get top notch announcer talent.

No way is this the worst booth of all time. Paul MaGuire isn't there.
Seriously, do people not remember the travesty that was Theismann, Maguire (WATCH HIS FEET!!) and Patrick? And Pappa is awesome, I wish it was just him in there.

Add another count to those watching with the sound muted and the radio on for play by play (or just no sound at all).

It amazes me that no where in the country is Millen more hated than MI and yet they throw him on UM and MSU games (and Lion games too) constantly. Enough of that bum... let him ride his motorcycles and enjoy his loot... but hearing his thoughts on football is a joke.

Who are these Network clowns that keep hiring these buffoons? What metrics are they using to determine which announcer gets selected? Theismann? Really?

:lmao:

This is bad. This is really bad. I even include Papa in this statement. Giants fans, what am I missing? This guy does nothing to get me excited about a game.

Millen is brutal; that leaves Joe as the best guy in the booth - - scary!

All Theisman does is reminisce about his playing days, "When I played, Art Monk would come find me when I got in trouble."

No one gives a #### Joe

Just when I thought I was rid of Millen forever this POS SOB is everywhere...

NFl Network, College Game Day, NFL pre-game :lmao: :wall: :wall:

Is there that big a shortage that he has to be everywhere :lmao: :lmao:

The NFLN games are just so boring, even when the scores are close. I think they need to pump in more crowd noise to try to raise the excitement. Different broadcasters would obviously help as well.

I think it was part of the deal he cut not to show those photos he had of the Ford family.... :towelwave: -QG

Dear god was that brutal. Screw waterboarding, have the terrorists listen to these shmucks. How and why does Millen have a job?

NFLN please raise the crowd noise and announcers with enthusiasms in there voices , tonight was a nailbiter with a winning drive and i felt like it was a 41-3 blowout .

I never thought that any announcer would make me like Theisman, Millen makes me love Joe. Millen seems to be a shell of his former self as an announcer.

These guys suck. They need the guy that announces Texans games.

All three of them suck IMO. Not sure where the love for Bob Papa comes from. The post about pulling three people from the stands is a good one! I wonder how many Kleenex Theisman went through last night given his mancrush on Matt Ryan. Egads that was tough to take.

Mike Florio, NBCSports.com on Matt Millen

“How does no one realize that this guy has only demonstrated he doesn’t know anything?” “I can’t listen to anything he says. … Every time I see his face on the screen, it’s like, in my brain, 0-16 superimposes over the screen, and I can’t get past that. Maybe other people can.“But I don’t understand … how you can have no shame and want to continue to be out there?“Kind of like, ‘Hey, look at me. You know what, I took all those millions from the Fords and I was completely inept, and now I’m taking even more money from ESPN and the NFL Network just because I can sit here and sound like I know what I’m talking about.”
Pretty much sums it up for me.

millen it terrible. he might be the worst ever, and i mean that. i don't like joe as an announcer but last night when i heard him talking, I was like Awesome! at least millen is saying anything completely off base or just wrong.

A poem by: BRONG

THEESMAN, AGAIN

All I kept thinking about is how incredibly annoying he was all those years...

And then he starts in with his playing days again. And again. At least 4 meaningless references.

And then he's wrong again and again. And then not admitting it...

And then he gets his ego hurt and bristles at the other announcers. And then he talks over them, again and again.

And then he gets way too excited about dissecting a play like it was the most important play ever in football...

And then he doesn't let it go because it's HIS stage. And so he yells into the mic again.

And then he massages his fragile and bruised ego...

And then he's wrong about a replay but won't let go of the fact, even after they show another angle that proves it...

And then he fake laughs and changes the topic so one of the other schmucks in the booth don't expose him.

Over and over again and again...

Here we go with theesman, again. :wall:

:bowtie:

It's just amazing that evidently more than one person at NFLN thought it would be a great idea to have Millen AND Theismann in the same booth.

What, was Fran Drescher not available?

Hello exactly. A guy famous for being incompetent is brought in as the expert?!?

These girls were horrible. They completely missed the first half fumble. Didn't talk about it until Bob realized there was a pileup going on. He even tried to downplay it through the replay that it may not have been a fumble. I think he was the one who called Ryan Flacco at one point.

Gus Johnson can't be busy on a Thursday night?

What about that HORRIBLE discussion late in the fourth as to whether or not Jenkins made that catch going out of bounds? I'm not saying I agreed with either of them, but neither made a valid point. Theismann kept saying the ball was moving (which it clearly wasn't) and Millen kept talking about a fingers catch. They were disagreeing just to disagree, I think it was clear neither liked the other. So uncomfortable and just plain BAD.

I enjoyed the little bit that I watched.

I do miss the voice of Mike Patrick and the hilarity of "look at his feet....look at his feet" Paul Maguire.

Yeah, I couldn't believe that. They're chatting away about the flag thrown on the obvious block in the back while there's a big pileup on a fumble. If you had no picture, you wouldn't have known there was a fumble on the play. Although Theisman and his "DVD of Matt Ryan" had me :bye: .

NFL network has some good guys on staff also. Billick, Baldinger....cant one of them analyze?

Papa is ok

Billick is a FOX analyst (usually doing crappy NFC West games) and I think Baldinger might be too. They were absolutely brutal last night - I guess they bought their own "these two teams are so similar" storyline to the point that they used the names Ryan-Flacco and Ravens-Falcons interchangably, and frequently incorrectly. Just horrible for so many reasons.

They both do shows on NFL Network and are both very good. Does their gig at FOX mean they cant do the same for NFLN?

Billick seems like the most arrogant #### on the planet. He annoys me to no end.

What the hell was that last night :(

at one point one of the  actually said after a dump off pass "That there is good football"

Seriously?? So before that play it was just "dumb football" ??

Papa is a work (name) in process. He clearly does not understand SOME of the plays and rules of the game. He is an "oh yeah" play by play, meaning he cant bring football facts to the table, he has to agree with you and carry on (oh yeah)

To hear him say last night the following a flag on a punt only reassures me he doesnt get it yet :

He went out of bounds and was the first guy to touch the receiver tells me that he doesnt get it yet.

It has been said here already, but NFLN and the announcers sucked all of the excitement out of that broadcast.

Some errors I recall off the top of my head....

Mughelli ran for a 3-1 1st down and they call him Snelling. Then babbled on of how great it was he did not run standing up knowing where the first down marker was, well no kidding. Can you point out something more obvious? "Well you know there is green grass down there and that is crucial for a football game"

And as it was already commented on but there should have been a drinking game everytime Ryan was called Flacco.

How about when the ravens were driving towards the end of the game, down by 6. Millen throws up Holmgren and allowing a td so there was time for a drive. I was half asleep and couldn't believe someone would suggest that instead of stopping them on 4 downs he suggested that they fall behind by one to get the ball back.

I think he overachieved at 0-16.

It sounded like three high schoolers got together for the first time on a Friday night to broadcast a HS football game.

From the camera work to not showing proper replays to the horrible booth, just an all around terrible production. NFLN should watch MLBN and take many lessons.

At least go and get some talent from NFL films, A COMPANY THAT THE NFL OWNS.

WTF??
