nfln reporting steve sabol passes away (1 Viewer)

I am a big believer in "catalysts" when bringing something to greatness, and the Sabol family is one of those reasons...something today that seems so simple, was beyond revolutionary when they started. If basketball or baseball had a "Sabol", we might be talking about football today in the same breath as hockey and boxing.

An argument can be made that Steve and Ed Sabol were as responsible for the success of the NFL as any other individual. A huge loss for football fans.

:sadbanana:

So much we enjoy today as fans of the NFL (and really of all sports) is due to the innovation of Steve Sabol and his father. If ever there was a voice of the fan it was Steve. RIP.

Great man, what a contributor.

RIP

Sorry to ask, but who was the voice in the old films? "On the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field..."

Such an innovator.

Absolutely. Back in the pre-Sunday Ticket days when you had only 3 or 4 choices all day long and almost no chance of seeing your team out of market, those films were the lifeblood of football fans. I remember when we used to have to rent a VCR once a month because we were #### poor and buying a VCR was still too expensive, we almost always got at least one NFL Film and we watched it over and over and over and over. His his dad's Canton busts should be made of platinum for all the money plateaus that the NFL has reached in the last 3-4 decades with their help. RIP.ETA: and the voice, no matter where/when I hear it reminds me of Sunday mornings, always

Rest in Peace. I wouldn't be the fan I am today had it not been for Ed and Steve Sabol.

Anyone knocking the decision to bump players to put Ed in the HOF can bite me.

Absolutely. Add ESPN into that mix as well. I remember so many afternoons after school spent listening to Sabol and Fascenda regaling in the history of the NFL. RIP

As a soon to be 45 year old who grew up in a time when there wasn't many sources to get our NFL information I have many fond memories of listening to Mr. Sabol. RIP - you were one of the greats.
