NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

I like the fact they're showing a feistier attitude in the last handful of games than they're known for.
I'd prefer them playing significantly better D right now, I couldn't care less if they are feistier. Play better in front of Crow and the rest will take of itself.

I'm watching Colorado play the Blues right now, but I don't often watch the Avs. Can I get the cliffs version of why they are struggling so badly this season?

Do the Maple Leafs really have just one goal in their last five games?

That's just ... um ... wow.
Unreal. They were second in the league in goals a couple weeks ago.
Wow...just wow.

If I am Nonis/Shanahan, I think I put JVR/Kessel in the pressbox for a night or 2. They arent doing anything. Call up a couple of guys that want to play inspired hockey, and see what happens.

ETA...Last night, I was listening to a radio show...it was 60 years ago the last time the Leafs were shut out 3 of 4 games. It was games 46/47/49. It was the same game numbers this season that it happened.

Anyone with a gif/video of the guy skating off the ice then cross-checking himself in the face on the door because he had his stick the wrong way?

When my son was 11 one of his teammates tried to go on the ice like this. We were standing right near the door as the players ran onto the ice to make the big entrance. This one kid had his stick horiziontal to the ground, stopped dead in his tracks and fell onto his back. Was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Like it was in slow motion. Of course, he was only 11, unlike this guy :)

this is good shtick:

Oilers' MacTavish willing to deal 2015 draft selection for player farther along

Should the Edmonton Oilers win the draft lottery for the fourth time in six seasons, it could be of another team's benefit.

General manager Craig MacTavish revealed Tuesday that he's willing to deal a to-be-determined 18-year-old prospect selected in June's draft in order to acquire a player further along in the process, the team announced via Twitter.
could be a Lindros-type deal if they won the lottery this year and shopped the pick around.

Ok, who could come up with a package and be willing to give up that package that would snag Mc?

How good is McDavid considered? Slightly above average #1 pick or way above average #1 pick?
way above average. in the Stamkos, Tavares, range imo.
I admittedly know nothing about these guys beyond what I read online, but isn't Eichel also considered a way above average #1? Maybe a drop below those guys but in any other year he's the slam dunk first overall? If so, theoretically it could lower the return for McDavid if it ends up being significantly cheaper to trade for the #2 slot. If the first overall is on the table, whoever is sitting second would need to at least kick the tires to see what could come back.

Sabres aren't dealing either of them (IMO), and they should get the #2 pick at worst with the way things are going right now.

Eichel is way up there too. Will be a great consolation prize. Not sure he's better than MacKinnon was, but probably the best #2 since Seguin at least.

The Flyers wouldn't be shy.

Sorry I should've been more specific. What in everyone's best guess would the package be from whatever team you are suggesting?

I don't think we'll ever see a package like that again.

Forsberg, Ricci, Hextall, Duschene, Huffman, Simon, two first rounders, and 15 million cash.

Bruins vs. Seguin tonight.

I'm ready ... take your best shots! :boxing:

(BTW ... I also have my group's tickets for the return to the Garden in three weeks.)

Oh, and how did Ryan Miller do today? ;)
Ryan Miller update:

23-9-1 record, 5 shutouts, 2.28 GAA, .919 SV%

even strength save %: .922

while I was checking this out, a couple other numbers stood out that are worth mentioning.

while his team is short-handed, Marc-Andre Fleury has a save % of .928 (15 GA on 209 shots) this year.

That's crazy good, but even more crazy is Semyon Varlamov is at .948 (9 GA on 172 shots)

the only other goalies above .900 with a decent sample size are:

Bishop (.906)

Howard (.902)

Ward (.909)

Crawford (.907)

Hutchinson (.902)

FWIW, Greiss is at .940 (on 67 shot attempts) so Fleury's numbers are clearly helped by the team in front of him. The #2 in Colorado (Pickard) is at .859 on 78 shot attempts. Pretty huge gap between those two while playing on the same team.
