Full contingencies on the Zid trade:

If Red Wings make Stanley Cup Finals the Devils get a 2016 2nd rounder only

If Red Wings make Eastern Conference Finals (and lose) the Devils get a 2016 3rd rounder and 2015 5th rounder

If Red Wings get knocked out in round 1 or 2, the Devils get a 2016 3rd rounder only

Zid is a good puck-moving defenseman who had quarterback the powerplay. Gambles too much sometimes and gets caught. Sort of guy that needs to be paired with a solid defensive defenseman. Really great passer.

Not a big return for the Devils, but Zid had a full NTC which surely greatly restricted where they could move him. Something is better for nothing for the Devils (with him being a UFA) and it gives more time for the plethora of good young D-men the Devils have.

Side note - Devils pick up $1m of Zid's salary (so that doesn't go on Detroit's cap).

Lovejoy is a solid 3rd pair guy...

Despres is still young (23) but a solid 3rd pairing guy with some offensive upside. Good size, good skater.
