NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

Two fun facts:

Over Price's last three starts, he's 1-2 while stopping 96.9% of the shots he's faced.

Starting tonight, the Caps could play the Rangers 10 times in their next 22 games - 3 during the 15 remaining games of the regular season, and then in the first round (which every Caps fan knows will feature 7 1-goal games culminating in a 2OT Rangers win in Game 7).

There is gonna be one day where I won't come here to describe how impressed I am with Kevin Hayes.

That day is not today.

Uncharacteristic poor penalties from rangers
I'll take that from Moore. Wilson is throwing his body around (legally) and it's good to have a much smaller guy drop him on his ###, especially when he was all over Moore from the start.

Duclair was a healthy scratch for the Ramaparts the other night
Saw that. There was some buzz around the time of the deal about him being lazy and many around hockey thinking he came across as entitled but I attributed it to the normal stuff you hear once a guy gets moved. We'll see I guess.

Starting to get worried about Kevin Klein and that shot to the arm he took late. He doesn't come across as a guy who would ever admit to being in pain unless it was something very bad.

worst case: broken and he is back for the playoffs

I'm thinking it was broken too. He would have shaken off a stinger and as it was a shot it isn't likely to be a dislocation.

If you told me that I had an option of letting the Rangers go into the second period at 2-1 or, Rangers going into overtime at 2-2, I would have taken the later. The second period opened with a two man advantage power play for the Caps for over a minute. The way the Caps moved the puck around on their first power play had me thinking they would score at least one goal.

Talbot has looked fantastic in net. The Rangers extended Talbot through next season so at the least he'll prove a fantastic backup. If he keeps playing this way, he'll be a valuable trade chip. I doubt they will trade Talbot though.

He already is a valuable trade chip - and I think it's very likely they explore moving him this offseason. He's signed to a very affordable 1 year deal and I could see a few teams ponying up an early second for him at this point in time. It's great to have insurance for Hank but they have some decent goalie prospects in the pipeline, and anything you get for Talbot who is likely to walk after next season is found money anyway.

They have him signed for cheap next year. There is no doubt they will trade him for a 1st rounder.

ETA: Looks like ST beat me to it

I think he can go for a first. He is proving he can be the guy

After seeing some of the trades involving draft picks, I think you're a little lite on the pick. I'd expect it would be more like a first or two seconds.

Quite possible they can snag a 1st for him - didn't wanna get berated for being an overreactive Rag fan by the cool kids in this thread.

Still can't believe Isles landed Leddy and Boychuk on the same day before the season started.

Now both signed to long term deals.

GO ISLES !!!

Nah. I believe you only get berated when you're a Met fan. Us Met fans always seem to over-value players.

Despite the score the Lightning are thoroughly dominating Boston. These past two games are really making me feel good about the playoffs.

Blues are playing very well tonight. Best I've seen in a while. Steve Mason has been ridiculous. Very fun game.. Tune into OT
Total dominance by Elliott tonight. No goals allowed in regulation, no goals allowed in shootout.

He's now tied with BLAME HALAK for the franchise record in shutouts. :coffee:

I have been very impressed with Bortuzzo. He's made a couple turnovers that bug you, but for the most part he's been sound, hits everything in sight and his shot seems pretty heavy.

What do you Pens fans think about Cole so far? Looking at the stat sheet he seems like he hasn't been hurting the team or anything.

Wild have been on a hell of a run but hidden in there is that the schedule has been very easy ever since the annual Buffalo Bounce Back started mid-January. that's about to change because the rest of the schedule is meaty starting tonight. 8 of the 15 are against the 6 teams currently leading the league with 91 points. the only game left against a non-playoff team is @Toronto 3/23.

not out of the woods yet.

Looking at a revised point system where regulation wins = 3 points , OT and SO wins = 2 points and OT and SO losses = 1 point show a few interesting items.

In the East:
Tampa would leading division with 129 points to Montreal's 121 and Detroit's 116.
The Rangers would have a decent lead with 127 points to Pittsburgh's 121 and the Islander's 119.
Washington and Boston would be a comfortable 7&8 seed with 112 and 109 points respectably as the next closest is Ottawa with 96.
Florida would have a dismal 90 due to so few regulation wins with 16. They'd be in 11th place behind Philly with 92.

In the West:
Nashville would be tops in their division with 121 while St. Louis with 116 holds #2 and Minnesota's 112 jumps them up to the #3 seed .
In the Pacific, Anaheim with 117, Vancouver 110 and The Kings and Calgary both with with 108.
Chicago would be tied with Calgary and the Kings with 108 being the #8, San Jose outside looking in with 104.
Winnipeg and Dallas would still be in the mix with 99 and 97 respectively.

Buffalo would still be holding last with 49 points while Edmonton would be at 55.

ETA: I think this is right (screwed up the points the first time)
