I really like this and hope the NHL goes to this full time.Still keep the shootout after 7 minutes if no goal and you get tons of action.

I don't understand how anyone can be in favor of the shootout anymore.

Got a few here that seem to like it but I agree.7 minutes with 4 of them being 3 on 3 should help get a winner the right way.

It looks like it would be fun to watch. Speed, moves.and passing ability are key. There would be numerous fast break opportunities. Not sure how the players would feel about it. Its going to take a lot of energy to play 3 vs 2.

I think he feels if there is a penalty then the offending player goes off and it is a 3 on 2 power play.

Nope, when it is 3 v 3 and a penalty occurs, a player is added to make it a 4 v 3.

And I'm thinking the guy made a mistake and after the fact said - hey, 3 on 2 powerplay. Although then I would have said 2 on 3 power play.

I was at the game, I have never seen the Bruins literally skate circles around a team like they did for the first two periods. But the Sabres packed it in, kept it close and took advantage of a bounce to tie it up. You could almost see it coming the longer it stayed 1-0.

Lindback was solid, if not spectacular. The B's probably should have had far more than 45 shots considering how much offensive zone time they had.

Kid on the train wearing a Vanek jersey said the Sabres are going to make a run at Matt O'Connor from BU in the offseason. You heard anything about that?

Where was the dividing line between Whalers fans and Bruins fans. Was it just CT people who rooted for the Whale or did it extend. Woudl have been tough since Bruins were original 6. One of my sons coaches wears a Whalers hat, played for BC and I think lived in Mass. Just one of the things I thought about on my way to work today

NHLPA seems like they will fight anything. Longer overtimes put more stress on the players. They already started to complain about 3 v 3 being too hard on the star players.

yeah, I mentioned that in here after they dealt Neuvirth. I think they will go hard after him given their current goalie situation. If he wants to an easy path the to the NHL, they might give him the best chance.

Where was the dividing line between Whalers fans and Bruins fans. Was it just CT people who rooted for the Whale or did it extend. Woudl have been tough since Bruins were original 6. One of my sons coaches wears a Whalers hat, played for BC and I think lived in Mass. Just one of the things I thought about on my way to work today

Whalers' fan base was limited entirely to Connecticut, and that even excluded some of the closer-in to NYC suburbs like Greenwich. And that was also only when they were winning. No Mass kid ever switched allegiances and I don't think any Rhode Island kids did either.

That's part of the reason the franchise was doomed - it's not like thousands of lifelong Bruins and Rangers fans (let alone Islanders) suddenly abandoned their teams. They really only appealed to people who self-identified as hard core Connecticuters. I think people like the Whale more now for the cool/irony of wearing the gear than ever liked them when they were actually alive. Kind of like the Expos in that regard.

Yeah, the Whalers didn't really spill much into Massachusetts, except for maybe right along the border. I've worked with a couple of Whalers fans ... one grew up in Western Mass., so closer to Hartford than Boston, the other was kind of a curmudgeon who just liked to hate on the Boston teams more than anything. But the Bruins were too established through the Orr/Espo years for anyone to really jump ship.

I did like going to games in Hartford. It was much cheaper and easier to see NHL games there rather than trying to get into the old Garden. I ended up seeing Games 3 and 6 of the Adams Division playoffs in 1990 when I was in college (of course, the Bruins won Game 4). But I used to go down there to see other teams as well ... saw Gretzky's Oilers there, but never in Boston. Quite a few other random games as well.

Kind of miss The Mall. I could get to Hartford just as easily from my house now as I could get into the Garden last night.

Me three. The three-point system would alleviate the original problem where teams had little incentive to try to win in overtime, since they didn't want to lose the one point they'd get for a tie. Awarding one point for the OT loss was a good idea, but I think the three-point system would be even better. Puts all the incentives in the right place.
