Nicks OUT per rotoworld (1 Viewer)

I think the bigger question is why?! Did he re-injure his foot when he went off for 199 yards last week? Did one of the Bucs lunge at him on the last play? How is his foot so bad that he's declared OUT the day before a game when he just played 3 days ago? Might this be a continuing issue for the season?
I saw the play where he came limping off and almost automatically questioned whether or not he was going to be available this Thursday. I suspect he'll be fine next week, but the short week was the worst possible scenario for Nicks owners. To be completely honest though, I'm quite relieved he's not playing. Although I'm going to have rely on one of two sub-par options this week, at least they are healthy, playing on Sunday and/or have great match-ups. Nicks could have easily underperformed to the tune of 4/40 again this week if he had played.
I'm with you. I really wanted to start Stevie Johnson against the Browns (without Haden), but I feared benching Nicks in a game where he would go off. There are red flags with his injury and a really tough Panthers matchup, but after last week's game, I think his owners would have been forced to start him, even in a dicey situation. It sucks for those without a great backup plan, but for the good of the player (for future fantasy purposes), I think it's a positive.

Who's everybody targeting as possible one week pick up...if your depth is not great and/or you have Flex play spot you want to fill?

Here's a quick list I put together of players that are likely available:

Donnie Avery

Devry Henderson (if cleared to play)

Donald Jones

Andrew Hawkins

Nate Burleson

Tampa Mike

Greg Little if he was dropped. Good match-up vs. BUF.

Thursday night games really hurt NFL players and teams. This league doesn't care about anything but TV $$.
Agreed, but in all fairness the leagues job is to make the owners money. It's a business before it is a sport now days.
The product is hurt though when players are injured or teams are not as prepared.
A vast majority of NFL viewers probably don't even know who the hell Hakeem Nicks is.If Eli was out... that's another story.

A star receiver on a New York based team? Yeah, I doubt that.

Just a silver lining for Nicks owners: After having a lot of time between their week 1 Wed game and week 2, Nicks put up great numbers and looked good. Maybe after giving him a full week off (no practices either), owners can be more optimistic about week 4.

The downside: He's not even limited in practice and didn't even make the trip. Could be worse than a last-minute scratch, meaning there was a setback or it's not getting better.

Playing against Nicks owner and was hoping he would play and put up a dud.

He has other options on his bench that figure to be stronger than a banged up Nicks playing on a short week.

Purely speculation but it could be that the type of foot injury he has just needs rest and time to recover from going full throttle in a game. The short week just doesnt allow for that type of rest and is why Nicks was scratched. So it might not be a setback or a sign that it's necessarily not getting better. May just need rest that the short week doesnt allow.

they do get a 10 game break afterwards though, which gives them an advantage against their next opponent.it looks like they made an effort to schedule thursday games between teams that are close to each other. most games are divisional
While this may be true I think most teams would rather play on Sundays with the full week's rest and not have a 10 day break rather than play on a short week and not have players that could have played given a whole week's rest.

He definitely re-injured his ankle on that last long catch down the sideline. Looked like his toe got stuck in the ground as the defender grabbed his lower leg.

Barden was actually on the field for 47 snaps vs. Tampa Bay, but only caught 1 ball. Most of those snaps came after Hixon came out. I'm guessing Barden takes Hixon's place and Randle takes Nicks'? Randle played only 3 snaps vs. TB.

“@NotoriousOHM: Nicks tried to run this morning but wasn't able to do much. Team opted to give him 2 weeks rest rather than have him play twice in 5 days”

“@MikeGarafolo: Sounds like no major long-term concerns for Nicks. Word is he should miss only this game. Short week killed him.”

What's the temperature of Nicks owners? You guys getting itchy? Ready to sell? What kind of WR would it take straight-up for him?

Nicks owner here, no way I would sell him right now FWIW.

I have good options to replace him for this week, but looking ahead, if he were to miss any significant time this season, who fills his role?

I have a little breathing room on my bench and was considering picking up the next NYG wr in line for depth.

any homers that can weigh in??

Why would i be looking to dump a guy after 2 weeks who just put put up 200 yds a few days ago?
Just curious. Easy, big fellas. ;)I know some owners can get frustrated with these guys who are dinged up and in and out of the lineup, especially if they have owned them before and been burned. You never know, you could have a guy at 0-2 who is now without Nicks and staring down the barrel of 0-3 and could be looking to fire sale.

Depends on the rest of their roster, I imagine. I'm hurting at RB and deep at WR, so I'd consider him for a RB, but I'd want a good RB2, say Gore, Ridley or TRich. No way I'm bailing on Nicks now. I figured he'd have a slow start when I drafted him. if anything, he's outperformed my expectations. As for a straight WR-for-WR trade, I'd swap him for Julio or Marshall if their owners got frustrated by last week.

As a Nicks owner - I'm not that concerned with this, and aside from the sting this week, this is long-term positive for Nicks. Give him a week and a half, and hopefully he can start t put this foot issue behind him. Of course I'd like to see him practice next Thursday, but in general this is a smart move by the Giants.

RE: Bennett - Nicks sitting, along with Bradshaw and Hixon, really gives me an itchy finger to start him this week.

In fact - blatant WDIS: Bennett or A.Brown? I'm actually leaning towards Bennett in PPR.

The Nicks owner in my league is 0-2 and has reached out to me. I own Reggie Wayne, Vincent Jackson, and Mikel LeShoure. I'm stacked at RB so don't mind losing LeShoure. He has offered me Nicks for either LeShoure and Wayne or LeShoure and VJax. It's definitely tempting, but given Wayne and VJax's quick starts, coupled with Nicks' current injury and constant injury bug, I feel somewhat inclined to stick with what I've got. Anyone think I'm an idiot for passing up on a chance at Nicks?

Surgically repaired foot and ankle were unintentionally stepped on during play. He came back in afterwards and made several big plays but it's not a surprise he's banged up.

:goodposting: You have the NY market knowing who he is plus Eagles, 'Skins and Cowboys fans for sure knowing who he is. That's a huge % of the NFL market. He still does get called Knicks in posts though. But I still see tons of Whitten postings too.

Thanks for posting. I'll let you manage your own team ;) but this is exactly the sort of Nicks owner evaluation I was looking for and exactly the type of 0-2 owner itchy trigger finger type scenario I alluded to in another post. So basically low end WR1 + RB3-4 prospect. Feels about right to me.

Same as when I drafted him, hold unless someone offers me a WR1 I know will do better.Getting him in the 4th/5th round was a crime. Was fully expecting him to miss at least one game, coughlin has to sit him he only knows one speed and doesnt know how to take it easy. Hopefully he will recuperate fully.

My gut tells me this kid is soft. Always seems nicked up, no pun intented.
ur gut is wrong
:goodposting: Wow, way, way wrong.
You guys couldn't possibly be from NY and NJ, could you...
It doesn't matter where they are from, you are going to find yourself in the severe minority with that opinion.
Like I said a year ago...

looool playing with a broken foot makes him soft?

yeah, he's had quite a few various injuries, but I drafted him with a broken foot, anyway, because you can usually bank on him playing through injuries and banking points.

how'd he do on his broken foot last week?
