Nicks vs Revis (1 Viewer)

So what are us Nicks owners doing? I know hes been frustrating this year but in the last few games hes regained his WR1 status. He had a disappointing day yesterday but that was due to the dropsies which he normally doesnt have. He still was targeted a team high 12 times and couldve had up to 3 TDs (one easy drop, one tougher drop, and another TD called back due to holding).

This week the Giants face the Jets. Will Revis be covering Nicks or Cruz? Im assuming Nicks. Reports during the week on who Revis is covering will be important. So are you benching Nicks vs Revis?

Nicks put up a 5 reception 71 yard game on 7 targets against the Jets in the preseason this year- Cromartie and Revis alternated coverage on him.

I think the question is will Revis be on Nicks or Manningham. Cruz will likely be in the slot and I don't think they'll bring Revis inside shadow Cruz. Definitely worth watching the reports this week. If Revis is going to shadow Nicks, I might look at a lesser player with a better matchup like Moss at home vs the Vikings.

Why would Revis be on Manningham?

I'd assign Revis to Cruz if I were the Jets. He's the one that must be stopped.

And I own Nicks.

Rolling with Nicks regardless. I survived with him as my #2/#3 to this point. Besides, anyone else I plug in there would likely have the same floor and his upside is much better.

Yesterday, the Jets played a side instead of locking to one player. I think they may play the same way this week so I'm not as concerned about Nicks as i normally would be.

I would stick with Nicks even with Revision on him.

ETA: the Jets pass rush is not good this year so Nicks will have more time for space

Bowe had 6 for 69 against them

Stevie Johnson had 8 for 75 and a TD

Brad Smith had 4 for 77 and a TD in the same game

on a side note, even though Jake Ballard is coming off a bad week, def start him vs the Jets, he'll have a big week.

Nicks will get targets and open vs. Revis. The question is will he catch the ball. This guy has dropped a ton of passes this year for some reason.

well DJax had 1 catch while Maclin had 3
Yes but that game went sideways very early. I would expect a close game and a lot is riding on this for both teams. Some other WRs have had pretty good days against the Jets this year and Nicks is the type of WR that can put a BIG, long Td on you (not the same as some guy you are trying to throw 10 yard routes to). This would be one of those weeks I wouldn't mind owning any of the Giants main 3 WRs because to me it looks like a 33.3% chance that SOMEBODY is going to go for a big day in this game.

Why wouldn't Revis be on Nicks when Cruz is in the slot? Unless they move around and Revis stays on one side I'd assume they'd want him on Nicks. Manningham is much less dangerous.

I'd be more worried about Nicks being able to catch passes that hit him directly in the hands :wall: :hot:

(angry Giants fan and Eli owner)

Comparatively so, yes, but Manningham might beat Cromartie so bad they have to rethink.

Cant bench this guy in week 16
Always depends on your other options. In 1 of my leagues I have lots of good WR's so it could be a possibilty as much as I would hate to benc him.In my other league Nicks took the option out of my hands as hi multi TD drops helped me to lose my game and thus no decision is needed now.

I think this is one of those late season battles with overthinking things. Unless you have some really good or really hot talent that you have to sit to make room for Nicks I think you start him.

I need to start two of the following: VJax, Nicks, AJ Green, Julio.

My opponent is the #1 seed and I am the #6 so I am leaning towards a boom/bust lineup with VJax and Nicks. Strongly considering Julio on MNF though.

According to this Nicks only has 5 dropped passes in 13 games. Considering two were in this last game that is only 3 through the first 12. I certainly wouldn't catergorize that as a ton. I'm leaning more towards Nicks just had a bad game than the drops becoming some sort of trend with him. And I definitely wouldn't use that as a reason to bench him.

Nicks vs Revis is nothing to worry about. I think he'll get his 5 catches 60-80 yards and probably a TD. This year Revis has not shown that he is a SHUTDOWN corner.

1) Dez Bryant

2) Stevie Johnson

3) Wes Welker

Just to name a few.

It's not the amount of dropped passes, but WHERE and WHEN he drops them. First downs, easy 40+ yard TD's, etc.

The guy has 5 dropped passes all year. You make it sound like he does this every week.I know this past week burned a lot of owners but there's nothing to see here.

Nicks is still playing great (despite the bad drop last week.. in the sun?) and I think will have a serviceable game- 5/75/1. Manning will look his way, especially near the goal line because of Nicks' size and both teams are desperate for a win. Last week I survived starting Harvin who was picked as the #1 wr on some boards and there are other options but not too many. Besides the obvious like Calvin and Welker there might be some better plays this week like Green, White, Wallace, V Jackson... etc due to matchups but its always tough to sit a guy who helped get you to the big dance. I'm curious to hear who will be benching Nicks and for whom.

I'm going against Nicks so I'm hoping that Revis shuts him down but I have little faith in the Jets pass rush So I'm expecting Nicks to put up representative numbers for him (i.e. 80+ yards and a td).

Im starting Nicks but dont see how Wallace is a better play than him. Im starting Wallace too BTW lol

You actually have to watch the games. Against the Cowboys Revis switched bewteen Austin and Bryant with both doing all of their damage while Cromartie was covering them.During the first Buffalo game all 3 of Johnson's catches came against Revis - but they were sideline cathes with the first half clock expiring where he was playing a little off and they were as "harmless" as long receptions could be. During the second Buffalo game Cromartie was covering (and was bowled over by) Johnson on his long TD reception.Welker did little while Revis was on him (although he is a very tough cover for Revis) on Welker's long catch and run Revis turned Welker over to Erik Smith who blew the coverage.I'm not saying that Revis is unbeatable and against teams that have two good WRs - the Jet tendencies have been to just play one side with their CBs or switch Revis around to "confuse" the defense.

Its funny you say that because if YOU watched the games you would have seen:1) Dez Bryant torch Revis for a TD (short slant pattern) and a 40 yarder (again another slant) in the first half. None of these occurred vs Cromartie.

2) Stevie Johnson continuously destroyed Revis on timing patterns (fades, comebacks and slants) all game which is why he did his Plaxico celebration when he scored.

3) Wes Welker completely blew past Revis for a 73 yard gain en route to a 5 catch 124 yard performance.

1. Bryant caught one pass while Revis was covering him, it was a great leaping catch the 40 yarder you refer to (Ogletree also caught a ball with Revis on him - the only two receptions he allowed) - the TD came against Cromartie. Watch at the 40 second mark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zQOtrobJYs&feature=related : 31 (Cromartie) is covering Bryant on the TD.2. Johnson did have a good game(s) against Revis - as I said - but the TD reception was against Cromartie. The first game the long completion came when time was running out in the first half and Revis was playing off him.

3. Revis had Welker for the first couple of steps but turned him over to the safety Erik Smith who took a bad angle and let Wleker blow past him - Revis then ran Welker down and stopped him before the endzone.

I think the bigger part to look at for you guys as you hash this out is to consider the type of player that gives revis the most trouble. Over the past few years, the elite WRs that Revis has fared well against are the run after catch guys that are great pass catchers and route runenrs. Against guys like AJ, Wayne, and those types he has done great. I think its partly because these guys are SUCH good route runners that it helps Revis prepare at what spot to be. But against the guys that can blow past him with speed and use a move or two and are more all over the place, those are the guys (like the ones mentioned above and even Randy Moss on a play here or there) that have been able to put some FF points on the board.I think Nicks is in the category of the type that will get some FF points. Not saying he is gonna blow up or anything but at the end of the day I like his chances to hit 12 or so in a ppr.

Also, like I mentioned earlier, the Jets played "sides" last week instead of matching up. The Giants are a team that could hurt the Jets if the Jets try to get into a game where they are moving around and matching shifts that Eli is audibling too. The Jets also are without Jim Leonhard to help cover some of those adjustments. So, I think the Jets will continue to sit in one spot and I don't expect to see Revis exclusively on any of the Giants WRs.

Its funny. OUt of all the guys who "torched" Revis nobody mentioned the biggest one of all.
Brandon Marshall did the best against him this season.
Because the world has been watching the movie "forgetting Brandon marshall" for the past two seasons. But you are right. Its really the only time this year I saw a QB willing to simply attack Revis over and over again.
Also Fitzpatrick and Steve Johnson; they went right at him.
