NL ROY Winner? (1 Viewer)

DCThunder

Footballguy
So who's the NL Rookie of the Year? Around DC the conventional wisdom is that Ryan Zimmerman is the odds on favorite. 99 RBI, 19 HRs, .282 BA in a less than stellar line-up, and plays a pretty good defensive hot corner.

But Dan Uggla of the Marlins is also having a good rookie season and Florida has been a semi-WC contender. 89 RBI, 26 HRs and a .286 BA. Not bad numbers for a second sacker.

There may be other ROY candidates as well. So who should get the award?

Hanley Ramirez vs. Ryan Zimmerman vs. Josh Willingham vs. Dan Uggla

I vote for Uggla because his D has been pretty impressive in addition to hitting a ton

Two Dodgers have been left off the list, although I'm not sure why. They're a contending team and both have had exemplary rookie seasons.

1. Russell Martin - Catcher 10/60 .284, plays great defense OBP .356

2. Andre Ethier - LF 11/54 .318 , although huis average has dropped as he's been mired in a slump. He was hitting .340+ for most of the season.

I think Martin is as qualified as the others and he's been integral to the team's succuess this year.

It should go to Matt Cain or Hanley Ramirez.

Cain has been phenominal the last two months and pretty good since the all star break. 86 IP 88K 2.80 ERA 1.11Whip. In September in 28 IP 24K, 2.25 ERA and .93 Whip.

It's a tough call between Ramirez and Uggla, but given that Ramirez's OPS is almost as high as Uggla's, and he has 46 more steals, I think he'll get the nod. Cain deserves serious consideration, and if he'd been a little more consistent through the first half, I think he'd take it. This has been an amazing year for rookies. Olsen also looks like a future #1, not to mention Josh Johnson, Zimmerman, Saito, Barfield etc.
