no league payouts (1 Viewer)

I won a league and am now owed $830. The league commish said he doesn't have the money. This is not a friendly league, 16 teams from all over country recruited over internet involved. I do have his address. What can I do to get my money? I have found where I can file a complaint with FBI for internet fraud but, what else? When I release the hounds I want to release so many that he begs me to take the money.

Has he indicated he will not pay or just does not have the money right now? I would first exercise every effort to work something out. That is probably your best chance at recovering anything. Try to do the send me this amount now and then send some more at a later date approach?

That sucks.First, get your money! If he owes you $830, does he owe others? ASK THEM. Next, give him a couple day time limit to make an arrangement for payment. ($200 now, $200 a month, etc.)

If he doesn't, I would inform the others in the league. Get them to put some pressure on this clown.

If none of that works, then you can try the authorities. However, you will probably will never see a dime then.

Soon as you get your money, adios to that league!

Good luck.

Uh, gambling is technically illegal. Sort of like calling the FBI for a dope deal gone bad. I'm not sure they'll help. Unfortunately I don't think you have any recourse. I'd use the other owners to help put pressure, but this is not good.

Make sure you get some kind of payment even if it's only 20 bucks. Make sure it's in a M/O or Check and make a copy upon receipt. This shows he aknowledges the debt. Which is very helpful in court. Once you try that then send him a certified letter stating that he owes you the debt. Make him sign showing he received the letter. Then go to your local small claims court and see what your recourse is about suing somone out of state.

You could also try to google the guy's name in his locality to see what else you can find out about him. You might be able to find something useful. However, whatever you do don't let up. It's your money. Go get it.

It's not gambling. It's a game. Simple and plain. Like a chess championship. Think of it as nothing less.

Could you post the site where you file a complaint. I'm going through the same thing with a big name league & have just about had it. If the $$$ don't arrive soon I'm about ready to just write it off & out the pos.

Semantics. Blackjack and roulette are games too. You bet real money, it's gambling. The feds aren't going to help you.

FF is considered a "game of skill". This is why FF companies operate legally within the US for profit, and "gambling' operations operate offshore.Filing with the FBI for internet fraud is the right thing to do, although its doubtful they will do much.

Its not gambling and thinking that it is is misinformed. I have tried setting up a payment schedule, however he does not make a payment. 1 owner was paid $300 but others are awaiting payment. He has e-mailed me and posted on the web board acknowledging the debt. I know the small claims route (thanks E-Bay) and already planned that. I appreciate any and all info given.

I think you're confusing "is it gambling?" in the philosophical sense with "is it gambling?" in the legal sense.

You can also call the cops where he lives, or the state police. Find out from him why he doesnt have the $. It could be that some players in the league never payed up the ante. Its only considered gambling if the person running the league makes a profit. My dad is a cop and an accountant, so i asked him.

Explain please. Would this still not be gambling if each team paid 100K to join with a Million plus pot? Explain how it's not gambling.
It is not a game of chance. It is a game of skill which is why so many US FFl sites exist which are owned by legitimate companies in which you pay a dollar amount to join and it gives out "prizes" aka cash. Do you think Sporting News, Fox Sports, and SI among others would be participating in these games if it was gambling and illegal?

Lesson learned: Don't gamble hundreds of dollars with guys you don't know on the internet unless you are 100% sure that the commish has their money and is reliable.

This doesn't help your cause, but did you ask him why he doesn't have the money? It's not like it was his to spend. He's probably some gambling degenerate who spent it at his local casino.

this person, are you absolutely sure he/she is over 18?

 Heading to FLA Friday, then crusing for the next 9 days...

our schedule likely has us hitting the casino every night

on topic....good luck collecting---when you're done f'ing w/him, drop me a line--I have a couple openings in our dynasty leagues...

...and I pay the guys that finish in the money--what a concept!

Definitely ask how he doesn't have the money. I run a money league and I hold the money in another account and wouldn't touch that money even if I was about to be evicted. It was never his to spend.

Testing your gullibility.

I have a league I am setting up. 16 teams, send me $500 to get in.

:lmao:

I can't beleive someone would even consider sending someone else, who he has never met, $ for an FFL league. Well ya learned the hard way.

This is what I expect from money leagues. I think the fact that one gets to hold a few thousand $$$ in any type of interest bearing account would be enough for most guys.

You can write off gambling losses? Oh man I just lost out in my tax return ;) .

How would you prove something like that?
