While I agree there are a lot of problems with the team right now, I'm shocked so many of you have a problem with him not disclosing anything via press conferences..... IF any of you have ever played sports, or coached, and I've done both for my entire life... a coach NEVER throws his players under the bus.... It is part of the job to take the blame (heat)..... My god what would you people say if he threw his players under the bus.. Then he would suck because he didn't have their backs.... Ask almost EVERY single player, past and current, they love to play for him... Part of the reason is how he handles his players in house and in the public eye..... Now does he have his flaws and such... yes.....

His problems, and the team, really started when he lost JJ... He is an offensive guy and the Eagles have never had a problem on the offensive side of the ball no matter who is in the midnight green. Even this year, the offense has been good enough to win more than 4 games.... Castillo was a mistake... no one can argue that.... He needs to get a good defensive coordinator, a few linebackers and safeties that can play at the NFL level, and we'd be alright.... Personally, I don't think Vick can win a Super Bowl, but the offense is not a problem....

A for his playcalling...(can't comment on time management as this is OBVIOUSLY a BAD area for him).... His philosophy is pass first.. That is him.... Hell, Shady can't lead the league in rushing if he didn't run the ball.... And Shady, and I LOVE him, is not a 30 carry a game guy.... Face it.... But bringing in Howard Mudd shows he wants to establish the run more, unfortunately, come playoff time this year we will be watching.... Thank God McCarthy isn't our coach... you guys would really hate him as he certainly doesn't believe in running the ball...

Is a change needed, possibly, but to sit here and bash a guy who has brought a team from the depths of the NFL to one that is a consistent quality team is rediculous.... Most here are the reason Philly fans get a bad rep.....

Agree with this post. Players want to play for the Eagles, and more specifically, Andy Reid. The biggest problem is with the offensive line coach running the defense. Things aren't as bad in Eagleland as they look. They had the lead in the 4th quarter against ATL, NYG, SFO, CHI and ARI and the defense couldn't hold.

I understand why he does this at press conferences and it has always worked for him in the past but it's not working this year. I never thought I would see an Andy Reid coached team quit because he always engenderd such loyalty, but this team has quit. I don't want him to blame the players after every game but for him to protect Jackson and blame the media when it's pretty apparent Desean is playing to protect himself and his future earnings at the expense of the team doesn't make sense. As far as coaches always protecting players I don't think it's that simple. If someone is not giving effort, they deserve to be called out. Don't forget Andy once intentionally embarrassed George Hegamin in front of the media for lack of effort. As far as the shot at Philly fans I think most posters calling for a change have laid out reasonable arguments for why past performance does not gaurantee future success. This isn't a knee jerk reaction, this has been building for years.

I see the argument for a change is be needed, but I think getting a quality Def Coordinator in and this team could be all this team needs... Check that.. we need LINEBACKERS AND SAFETIES..... as well... LOL .... JJ, god rest his soul, Eagles just haven't been the same since he left.... I've been an Eagle fan for too long, and Andy has done nothing but help this organization in his time here....

Summary of this thread. People who are not Eagles fans and don't follow this team closely can't understand why you'd fire Reid because of historical record. People who are Eagles fans and can see what is going on are tired of the mediocrity and want change.

The "careful what you wish for" crowd needs to remember that there are coaching changes every year in the NFL. Andy is the longest tenured coach in the NFL and yet there are coaches that have been in systems way shorter that have won super bowls in 5 of the last 6 seasons. Only Bill Cowher was in his position longer when he won. The last 3 super bowl winning coaches were in their first head coaching job for 5 years or less. The other, Coughlin, was on his 2nd go around after a long tenure in Jax that fizzled out.

It happens. Sometimes the message gets stale and both the coach and the team need a change of scenery to get revitalized. What people outside of Philly don't get is that we're not saying andy is a bad coach. Its just time to move on. It's run its course and its time for someone new to get a crack at it.

Don't think a stale message is the problem. Most of the players haven't been in Philly for that long. Really think the wide 9 over exposes the lack of NFL caliber linebackers and safeties, coupled with a DC who really doesn't know how to create a scheme that plays to the personnel strengths, nor the ability to call a defensive game.

This is a pure hypothetical for those who think Reid should not be fired. What would you do if Banner and Roseman go to Reid in the offseason and tell him Castillo needs to be let go and Andy refuses. Reid has always been very loyal and Castillo is very much his guy whereas McDermott was more of Jim Johnson's protege.

Do you allow Reid to come back with the same staff next year?

Then he has to go... Castillo just is in over his head and needs to be replaced. I could see Andy giving him a job on the defensive side of the ball.... Maybe linebackers coach... LMAO.....
