Family (me, wife, 12, and 14 year old boys) heading in a few weeks to take a 12 day trip out there. We are heading up to Lofoten which is a is an archipelago way the hell up there (if you drove it is 22 hours from Oslo, but we are flying to city up there named Tromso). We have a terrible flight - Minneapolis - Dallas - Helsinki - Tromso. Leave at 1130 AM and arrive at 600 PM the next day.

But this place looks incredible LINK

I mentioned in another thread that up in Tromso lives the northernmost golf course in the world (almost at the 70th parallel!). I am going to hit that up for sure. Probably on our way back to the airport and I will try and get 9 holes at like 11PM or something

Anyone else been? Or been to that area at all? We have a few hikes and and a few excursions planned, but are kinda just gonna wing it. We are staying at 2 different places

4 nights here

and another 4 nights here

It’s maybe too late to make arrangements of this kind, but an old colleague went on numerous cruises thru the fjords of Norway (called them amazing) — that’s all I got.

It's a great place. One of the best countries in the word (especially in the summer) but I'm part Norwegian so I'm a bit biased. They really have it figured out in terms of quality of life. I've only been to Oslo and Bergen but highly recommend both. Your trip sounds awesome though, well everything except the flight. Skol!

Went there when I was 8 ish. Beautiful country, especially the fjords. Cuisine is meh, at least for a grade schooler on a middle class budget.

Mecca for wingsuiting, hard climbing, and probably hiking.

And I’ll second @Major regarding quality of life, in line with all the Scandinavian countries.

We went a couple summers ago with our boys - Lofoten is absolutely stunning. Lots of great hikes and wildlife (ours loved the sea eagles). Grocery stores were surprisingly kid-friendly, and everything felt very safe and easy to navigate.

Jet lag hit us hard too, so don’t stress if the first day’s a blur.

  • Norway introduced salmon sushi to Japan in the 1980s.
  • The Lærdal Tunnel is the longest road tunnel in the world.
  • Norway tops the Winter Olympics medal count.
  • The Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is held annually in Oslo.
  • The Midnight Sun and Polar Nights occur only in Northern Norway.

I'd say it's a notch above the others in Scandiland. Much more money there due to oil so they said f the EU and remain independent. I also think they have it right when it comes to oil - Produce it, sell it to less sophisticated countries and rely on renewables so your land stays green and your air fresh. I think like 90+% of new car sales there are electric

It's right next to Mexico at the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow or EPCOT as many call it
Always like to ride the Maelstrom but I see they took that out in 2016...yikes
It is the most recent addition or pavilion added to the World Showcase but you still have to go back to 1988 when it opened

It's also the only place I've ever knowingly stolen from but I blame the LSD back in '94
We use to lock up Hammerjacks in downtown Tampa around 9am on Sundays and take the I-4 to EPCOT, we had passes back then and frequent trippers
They were selling these little silver trolls in huge bins in the gift shop and wanted like $10 for this little 1 inch figurine so i just took one home with me

If you have never experienced Disney/EPCOT on some kind of hallucinogen, you haven't really experienced everything there
I miss those days

Was there for work a year or so ago and had a great meal at this little restaurant/surf shop. Its just a bit north of Leknes. I didn't get one, but the people that I was there with said the cinnamon rolls were the best they had ever had.

Norway is stunningly beautiful.

We spent 13 days there in April, 2023. We did a driving tour of southwest Norway, staying in 5 different towns. We drove south to Tjome from Oslo then north up the SW coastline, staying in Jorpeland, Bergen, Loen and Alesund. Some of the sites we visited included the World's End, Pulpit Rock hike, boat tours of the fjords, the Loen Skylift. All of these sites were absolutely gorgeous. Just driving from town to town was more scenic than many places I've been. We didn't spend much time in Oslo but if you have a few hours on a travel day upon arrival or departure, the Munch Museum is well worth a few hours.

Sounds like you're spending the entire trip in the north so I won't be able to help with specific sites. I'm sure it will be a wonderful trip. Enjoy.
