Norwood/Dunn update (1 Viewer)

for what its worth, i just saw this on CBS Sports Fanatsy page.

"News: RB Warrick Dunn's delayed participation in training camp while recovering from back surgery left coach Bobby Petrino wondering how best to use the 10-year veteran in the Falcons' new scheme when Dunn returned. After less than two weeks of practice, Petrino has seen enough not only to begin to figure out how to use Dunn but also to determine that Dunn could be the best fit to start, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. There has been no official word that Dunn would start over Jerious Norwood, but Petrino said Thursday that Dunn's experience — especially key nuances like blitz pick-up and pass protection — give him an edge.

Analysis: Dunn will start in his preseason debut Monday night when the Falcons host the Cincinnati Bengals. He will get the majority of the snaps as the starters will play into the second half, Petrino said. Norwood will spell the Falcons' leading rusher the past three seasons (3,662 yards in that span). Expect Dunn to be the starting RB for the Falcons, which makes him a No. 3 Fantasy option. Norwood also should be considered a low-end No. 3 Fantasy back, but he should be drafted after Dunn."

this isnt a ploy raiders fan. Dunn is going to be the starter. I like Norwood and Own him in a keeper league, but facethe facts dude. It's Dunn's job to lose.

That sucks. Dunn needs not start week 1, unless the team doesn't want him to last the season.

Dunn is toast and that will show early in the season.. I rather him begin the year starting. It will only lead to an injury early so Norwood can step in later.. You can't hold back youth and talent forever.. Norwood is beyond Dunn and the only thing right now keeping Dunn there is experience.

I don't know what makes people think Dunn is just going to fall apart, or miss a bunch of games. The man is as durable as they come. He has missed 10 games in 10 years. He also has never had less than 1000 yards from scrimmage, and has over 100 rushing yards, and over 1300 combined yards in the last 3 years. Why on earth would the Falcons just toss him on the bench when he has been so productive year in and year out? It makes no sense at all.

The only people who think he will be cast aside are Norwood owners. This will almost for sure be a RBBC barring injury...and based on Dunn's proven durability, I would say the chances of that are slim.

Hmmm.. Lets see 286 carries last year for 1100+ yards and a 4.0 YPC. Yea, he stinks.

I'm not a Norwood owner, and am in fact a huge Dunn fan. And I tihnk he's going to fall aart if he's overused early. He had lower back surgery. It's not a little thing.

Dunn is a RB4 option but little more. You can't pretend age doesn't matter and he never freakin scores anyway, and I seriously doubt he even cracks 1000 this year. PS and oh btw the entire O doesn't look like a ball of fire.

considering how recent the injury is coupled w/ the fact that he's getting up there in age, i'm surprised that it's assumed that Dunn will automatically get his starting job back. As good as he was last year, Norwood was just as good. Granted, the blitz pickup is a factor that most people overlook, but i still have a feeling that Norwood is going to make that coaching staff second guess themselves. in the games i've watched, Norwood has been impressive.

First 8 games:Averaged 86 yards per game, 19.1 carries per game, 4.5 ypcOver the last 8 games:Averaged 56.5 yards per game, 16.6 carries per game, 3.4 ypc, just 1 rushing TDI think the writing is on the wall. I think this will be pure RBBC to start the season, but by midseason, I could see a much bigger piece of the split going to Norwood, with Snelling seeing the short-yardage carries.

OK, so we are playing this game? Look at Norwood's last 8 games. He AVERAGED 34 yards and had one TD? The fact that Norwood is NOT the starter and Dunn IS the starter right now, even though Dunn has had back surgery should tell you something about Norwood. I personally do not like either of these guys fantasy wise, but Norwood needs to show me more before I jump on his bandwagon.

Not a game. The stats don't lie. I was merely pointing out the signs of Dunn's decline. 4.5 ypc in the 1st half of the year followed by 3.4 in the 2nd half for a guy who is in his twilight years as a RB is not a good sign. Norwood was a rookie at the time, and didn't see much playing time yet. I think they wanted him to learn and develop as a player. Plus I imagine the pass protection issue probably contributed to his playing time, and its a valid point that it still might. But also keep in mind that Atlanta scrapped the zone running scheme that Dunn was so effective in.

People who want to finish 3rd-6th draft Dunn. People who want to finish 1st or 12th take a chance on Norwood.

First of all, if Dunn is a risk to miss games I don't see it. He's not missed a game since 2003. Second, if we're talking about the second half of the season versus the first, it looks like that whole team went in the crapper, which of course tends to mean that RB's #'s likewise go in the tank. This is nothing but good news for Dunn.Edit- Stupid HTML!

:lmao:

People who want to finish 3rd-6th draft Dunn. People who want to finish 1st or 12th take a chance on Norwood.
And people who are :lmao: make blanket statements like this.
:lmao: I remember when you offered useful opinions here. What happened man?
Too much time in the FFA
:lmao: Must be. He used to be much nicer. Another one bites the dust I guess.
Piss off, both of you!

I never said Dunn was an injury risk. But off-season shoulder surgery, followed by back surgery just before camp wouldn't really give me peace of mind about his health either.Dunn's 33 and having health issues, and the stretch run of games last year did not exactly inspire confidence, is what I'm pointing out. Yes, Dunn has been a great RB over his career, but sooner or later, vet RBs begin to break down. I'm speculating that Dunn may be at that stage, but again, that's just opinion, backed by some contributory evidence in the numbers. Who knows, maybe he returns and breaks off another 1100 yard season, but I'd be betting on the under.

Dunn is toast and that will show early in the season.. I rather him begin the year starting. It will only lead to an injury early so Norwood can step in later.. You can't hold back youth and talent forever.. Norwood is beyond Dunn and the only thing right now keeping Dunn there is experience.
Hmmm.. Lets see 286 carries last year for 1100+ yards and a 4.0 YPC. Yea, he stinks. :coffee:
First 8 games:Averaged 86 yards per game, 19.1 carries per game, 4.5 ypcOver the last 8 games:Averaged 56.5 yards per game, 16.6 carries per game, 3.4 ypc, just 1 rushing TDI think the writing is on the wall. I think this will be pure RBBC to start the season, but by midseason, I could see a much bigger piece of the split going to Norwood, with Snelling seeing the short-yardage carries.

Those quote boxes are an absolute mess.
:coffee: What part are you having trouble with?

Facts are Dunn is having issues prior to season starting. He wore down last year and you think its going to be any better this year??? Look Dunn is going to end up being a 3rd and long down back. Somebody to pick up blitz and take some swing passes. The only question is WHEN..

- They haven't had Norwood before.- No more Gibbs blocking scheme.- Coming off multiple surgeries.

They could tell me Dunn bulked upto 220 and ran a 4.2 .... I'd still think Norwood will emerge. I give Dunn props but Norwood is primed minus a solid QB.

I think the real issue here is that with Dunn being out, Norwood's ADP is going to really be out of whack if Dunn is truly the starter.

Both backs now become wild cards in most drafts!

Every year there are doubters. Dunn is one of the most undervalued and underappreciated backs I've ever seen...

The last three seasons he's played and started every game. He's had 1100+ rushing yards. And he's done so with someone else there to steal carries/touches (Duckett for a few years, Norwood a tiny bit, and especially Vick). It's pretty amazing what he's done, and how he seems to be under the radar every year.

Sure, he's getting older. Sure, he's a bit dinged up. Do I expect him to do as well as years past? Nah, not really. Norwood is going to get a decent workload, as the Falcons try and find out if the young kid can shoulder the load. They are easing him into the starting role that will likely be his any year now, as Dunn won't be there forever. But overall, I think Dunn will do well again this year, and in fantasy football, I think he's been a steal in many drafts...

Dunn will remain the starter all year unless he's hurt. And his track record shows he misses about 1 game a year. Those are the facts boys!

Atlanta is basically rebuilding now with Vick gone. Dunn is an older RB, never a big back anyway, or a goal line type guy. He's just come off back surgery.

All those things are warning signs that Norwood will get the chance to be the #1 guy sooner than later.

This is the best case scenario for Norwood owners. Sort of like Addai last year in Indy. Run Dunn all year long until he tuckers out. Then Norwood comes in fresh for our playoffs. BTW, I'm a big Dunn fan and personally (non FF) hope he has a career year a la CMart a couple of years ago.

The only people who think he will be cast aside are Norwood owners. This will almost for sure be a RBBC barring injury...and based on Dunn's proven durability, I would say the chances of that are slim.
I'm not a Norwood owner, and am in fact a huge Dunn fan. And I tihnk he's going to fall aart if he's overused early. He had lower back surgery. It's not a little thing.
 buyer beware. I know how that feels.......

Falcons plan to use Norwood more frequently

Falcons head coach Bobby Petrino says he intends to use Jerious Norwood more frequently going forward.

We're still surprised Norwood isn't starting. He was far more explosive than Warrick Dunn in limited Week 1 work and caught two balls for 24 yards. Dunn was ineffective. Norwood still can't be used in most fantasy leagues yet. Sep. 10 - 4:20 pm et
