Notable CUTS - 2023 (2 Viewers)

Hearing Patriots are actively shopping for a TE. Unfortunately, they pick 2 spots ahead of the 'skins.

A fella can dream...Albert O would look pretty good in Burgundy and Gold.

Robbie Chosen Anderson was cut.

I'm honestly not sure if he gets another shot, as he's got a bit of rep as a headcase now.

(fantasypros) Austin Watkins Jr. has been released by the Cleveland Browns.

Analysis: Watkins's release is somewhat of a surprise given he led the league in preseason receiving yards. But, he would have been the Browns' sixth receiver at best, behind the starters, Cedric Tillman and David Bell. He'll have to hope his play impresses another team enough to give him another shot at a roster spot.

Malik Davis. Not totally surprising given his fall over the preseason, but he was an offseason darling of sorts. I took him on a handful of best ball drafts and a couple $350 FPCs as well. Only 8% on Underdog not terrible. 2/24 FPC is also ~8%. meh

Seems like Robby/Robbie/Chosen thinks that constantly changing his name will help him hide and slip onto a roster. No dice.

Vikings cut RB DeWayne McBride,
I was told he would easily beat out Mattison. Hmmm...
Its wild how much some people hate Mattison. The Vikings have basically indicated all offseason that he's their guy, and that they like him every bit as much or more than they liked Dalvin Cook.
I don't hate him. I hate his career 4.1 yards everytime he rushes the football. Could that change given more touches? Maybe. My gut says it goes lower. We gonna find out what's he's got though.

I mean more that people are in denial of what the Vikings think of him. They clearly love him, they signed him to a 2nd contract, and basically ignored bringing in any competition. People see the YPC and want to dismiss what the team itself is telling us with their actions.

Its actually reminding me a little bit of Joe Mixon. Where the Bengals clearly love the guy, they brought in basically no competition, and even stuck with him through multiple off field incidents. Yet I keep seeing people saying the Bengals or Vikings should trade for Taylor, and its like, no, they have the guy they like, just because the YPC is low, doesn't mean these teams are unhappy with their starter.

Its also why McBride and Chase Brown were both a little overrated in dynasty drafts, because "the path to starting isn't far away", but yes, yes, it is.

I think coaches don't tend to focus as much on YPC as we do in fantasy - as long as they're mostly generating positive yardage and not leaving too many yards on the field. Plus there's the non-rushing activities like pass protection that will provide more opportunities.

Yep. But he was a first-round pick, those are supposed to be more than "decent journeymen".

Shoot. I tried to quote all of you. His is more a cautionary tale of holding out when the guy behind you is better than coming from Wisconsin.

Jonathan Taylor is another "bald tire" guy from Wisconsin, and he's got teams utterly lining up for him (in their own way for an RB).

Ravens cut Melvin Gordon.

A cautionary tale about Wisconsin backs who come out of that program with tires balder than Robert Saleh.
IDK. 8 seasons over 6400 yards rushing and 55 TDs is a decent journeyman career. Was relevant for awhile. Never anything special.

He was an RB1 from 2016-2018, and an RB2 from 2019-2021. I think people who took in their dynasty drafts in 2015 have to be pretty ok with their investment.

Maybe the tires are balder than we thought since he's staying on the PUP list.

that's fair

Or he's fine and this saga is going to last forever
yea unfortunately this is what I think is true. but here is where my poker mind comes into play. mostly because I just don't understand the mechanics of how holdouts/contracts/PUP/etc works in these cases (or any cases). so here is my question - if Taylor is truly healthy, doesn't his camp come out super duper uber strongly publicly right now or very soon that all this is BS and he is ready to go. and here is the poker read. if his camp doesn't come out very strong very soon, that means he really is hurt. bad reads?

imma go inhale some glue (again) /s

Nothing wrong with 4.1 average per rush

I don't think that he comes out as healthy while he's on PUP. He might run afoul of the CBA doing that. I can't imagine there's a place for healthy people on the "physically unable to perform" list as far as that goes. He'd basically be admitting he's feigning injury to avoid being fined.

A few thoughts about Mattison. First, 4.1 YPC is not bad at all. There is a pretty long list of RB's whose career average is less than that, some of which are in the HOF. I'd be more concerned with the trajectory of that YPC number, which has basically decreased annually since he entered the league. That said, I've always felt that Mattison was a stronger complimentary back than he was a #1 option. Whether it be Chandler or someone else, I sincerely hope they mix somebody else in significantly. In other words, if Mattison gets 70-80% of the team's RB touches (which I think is highly unlikely) , I think he'll be less effective than if they keep him fresh. I don't have numbers to prove that. It's just based on having watched every Vikings game for the past 30 years, including every touch he's had with the team. He's better when used as a 1-2 punch (doesn't matter if he's 1 or 2), rather than trying to run him into the ground. That won't go well.

Chiefs cut RB Deneric Prince

Weird backfield in KC, seems like a junk drawer, but they win with it.

Non fantasy wise, Desmond King was a surprising cut, he's a very solid nickel CB, who could be a starter for a contender. I assume Houston just wants to use someone younger.

Fantasy wise, I thought Bam Knight was a solid RB when he got work last year. Just feel victim to a numbers game, and not having as much ST value as Carter/Abankandi.

Colt McCoy
This is surprising. Is Tune gonna get a shot?
I would think Tune starts week 1. Dobbs is nothing special and can't know the playbook that well in 2 weeks. Might as well see what Tune has.
He can figure out the playbook--it's not rocket science (which is what his degree is in).

Except 4.1 is the career number. He was 3.8 last year, 3.7 the year before. On the same team that Dalvin was 4.4 and 4.7. And they let him go. Mattison's longest carry was 15 yards. Even leadfoot Kirk Cousins had one longer. The comp of Dameon Pierce at 4.2 is even more irrelevant. His team was terrible, all his backups were under 3. I don't understand what MIN is doing handing the backfield over to Mattison. And I would not be at all surprised if someone else leads the team year end. In fact I expect it.

I know what you're saying but isn't it a team decision not a player decision?

Well said. Agreed
