NYG news. Tuck & Kiwanuka. (1 Viewer)

I have read twice now that at the NYG practices...

1) Kiwanuka is getting some DE time. From Tucks LE spot. When he does...

2) Tuck is then moving around. DT sometimes. Standup OLB at other times.

Looks like they want to find ways to keep blocking assignments guessing.

Just thought I would share. Maybe additional confirmation will surface soon. Or a G-Man homer.

Thanks for the info. My initial thought is that Kiwanuka plays DE on passing downs, with Tuck moving inside. If that is the case, Wilkinson plays 3 downs and his value goes up quite a bit. They do have an advantage with so many pass rushers.

This is a very important situation to watch.

Thanks for the info. How much would this decrease Tucks value?
He played inside at times last year, so I don't think it has much of an effect on his value.
Depending on how often it is occurring, this is really no different than last season. Tuck and Umenyiora often moved inside on passing downs, with Strahan and Kiwanuka playing outside. I don't think it decreases Tuck's value at all. He's essentially in the same role as 2007, but doesn't have to split as many snaps at end. I'd assume it's Fred Robbins as the other DT on these downs, and, while he's no Umenyiora, that line is good enough to keep Tuck from getting double teamed inside at the three-technique on every passing down.

It sounds to me like this scheme will put Tuck in a position to make plays, possibly similar to the way that the Dolphins moved Jason Taylor around in the 3-4 defense the last few years. I think his value is enhanced as it should place him at the point of attack more of the time and enable him to both get sacks and tackles more often.

From what I can tell, Tuck was a force when he lined up over the center on passing downs last year. I don't see why they would stray from that strategy this year.

Don't you think that Strahan's absence will mean more attention can be paid to guys like Tuck now?

It could. But with the scheme remaining basically the same and Osi and Kiwinuka coming off the edge, I still like Tuck's chances against the interior OL on passing downs.

 I see little if any change for the reasons listed by the above poster.
