Obama About To Give Away Internet Control (2 Viewers)

http://www.wnd.com/2016/08/obama-plunges-toward-internet-surrender-to-globalists/

Pointing to the U.N.’s Geneva Declaration of Principles which clearly lays out the U.N.’s designs on taking over the Internet, Bergman argues that the giveaway could, “spell the end of the current era of free speech on the Internet, as well as free enterprise.”

The Obama administration’s plan is to abandon the oversight and responsibility for Internet governance, allowing those functions to fall into the hands of a group which is already considering content controls over the Internet.

As Gatestone Institute’s Judith Bergman warns, this could be the beginning of the end of the free and open Internet. The expectation of First Amendment protections on the Web will be a thing of the past.

U.N. control or not, failure of the U.S. government to maintain the current light touch oversight over Internet governance is a recipe for disaster as nations like China, Russia and Saudi Arabia begin to push for and exercise greater control over speech under the guise of limiting “hate speech” and protecting international human rights.

And when the U.N. takes over, it’s just a matter of time before it begins applying international law that would criminalize Charlie Hebdo or any criticism of Shariah law as “hate speech.
And the Chairman of the Gatestone institute is?

John Bolton - Former Ambassador and Neocon, whom Trump has listed as his possible Secretary of State.

I'm sure they are giving their unbiased opinion on the matter.

How about if the DNS to a site is changed to not go there?  Maybe www.porn.com now points to www.donatetomychurch.com.
ICANN doesn't point DNS entries to IP addresses, with the exception of the .INT domain, that's what sites like Godaddy and other registrars do.  ICANN just vets and coordinates them.  They also allocate IP addresses to the service providers we all use.

Honestly, all politics aside, this really isn't a big change at all.

WHAT IF THEY ALLOCATE IPS TO CHINA AND RUSSIA!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Eh, in retrospect I don't blame Jim for posting this.  The way those articles are phrased, if I didn't have a background in IT to help wade through the nonsense, I'd probably be unhappy as well.

ICANN doesn't do that today....that's what the godaddy's of the world do.....that's still not an example of controlling content, which again, any country in the world could do regardless of who's in charge of DNS if they chose to go that path.  The only reason our government doesn't control content is because they like their jobs and chose not to.

Okay, thanks for that.

oh...and by the way....before heads explode, the world is running out of IP addresses.  You probably haven't heard about it yet, but it's happening.  Know what that means?  It means they will be creating more.  They're going to go from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx so buckle up!!!!!!!!!!

Not exactly.  It's going to 8 quartets of hex numbers.  So instead of, say, 192.168.0.1 you'd have  0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:FFFF:C0A8:0001 .

Crap, I have a hard time remembering the full IP addresses of all the sites I visit now!

Dang...I thought it was just going to be adding another quartet.  I got pulled from that project at my company to work on something else.  Guess this makes more sense than what I said though
