Obama: 'I would not let my son play pro football' (1 Viewer)

I assume he wouldn't let him start playing then, given that to reach the pros he would probably have been playing for at least a decade. Seems silly to suddenly step in after college ball.

It's a rather silly comment. If your child is good enough to play professional football, then they do it. Especially when you consider the fact that for many if not the majority of pro football players, it's a means to escape economic misery.

It IS a dangerous game, though...

His son is already dead right? Didn't he get shot? How many sons does Obama have?
You should have studied harder in English class.
If I had a son, I wouldn't let him take English.
What part did I get wrong though, English wise? I'm actually trying since there are so many written word Nazis here. Point out my deficiencies and I promise to work on them because if you're happy, I'm happy.

It is not silly that you don't want your child to risk long term permanent brain damage. That is more important to some parents than potentially striking it rich from playing football.

"Ok, my 23 year old son who is old enough to make his own decisions, I'm not letting you play in the NFL. Don't sign that contract with millions in signing bonuses."

I remember when George Bush said he wouldn't let his son be a professional wrestler, but that was different, he actually had sons.

Given that Obama's son wouldn't need the money I think it makes sense for him not to want his son to play in the NFL. Plenty of wealthy people probably think the same way.

I think it's a big deal to have the President come out and say this. Goddell can't be happy. I agree - I've basically pushed my boys away from football to other sports - mainly because I don't trust a lot of youth coaches. Also, my boys have a MUCH greater chance of a bad injury than they do of making it to the pros. I'm sure my view won't be popular.

A decade from now that comment won't be the least little bit controversial. The nation is transitioning from beer and football to pot and soccer.

I don't know about that. Every soccer game I've ever watched has produced numerous momments of a player on the ground suffering from a violent injury just writhing in great pain. Football seems safer.

Pretty stupid that it's controversial that a parent doesn't want his child to do something dangerous.

I think this is the same imaginary son who would have looked like Trayvon Martin, would have been profiled, etc.

Folks the guy makes it up as he goes along - it's all shtick.

As they drink while pregnant and smoke in the car and stop at every McDonalds the fatties in the back seat see with their little fat eyes as they spill their soda all over themselves trying to unbuckle the seat belt that mom finally put them in because she said between puffs she needs to pee and "You are all going inside because I don't trust you out here with what's in the glove box."

Obama also knows next to nothing about sports.

How do I know this? He lived how many years and he could not properly pronounce the name of his beloved ChiSox home park, and he could not name a single White Sox, Cubs or A's player (having claimed to have been a lifelong White Sox & A's fan to boot).

LET'S TAKE HIM OUTSIDE AND BEAT THE #### OUT OF HIM!

Hm, White Sox fan, I guess.

Put down the bottle.

Pretty sure Obama didn't smoke while pregnant.

Is there any college football player, well known or otherwise, who was offered a job playing in the NFL and turned it down due to fear of concussions?

:good posting:
I know. You take a chance getting up in the morning, crossing the street, or sticking your face in a fan.

I can't be sure but I think the presidents full quote was "I wouldn't let my son that I don't have play football, be a police officer, fire fighter or soldier, but it's ok for your kids. Oh and smoking pot is no more dangerous that drinking alcohol." He took a drag off his cigarette and then added on "Oh yeah and my wife won't allow beets in the white house so #### those farmers."

Yes ##### Mc####enstein he was a tackle from Michigan. Who went on to a concussion free career in loserville.
