Observation From last Nite's Panther Game (1 Viewer)

Found it interesting that star WR Steve Smith was pouring gatorade and setting up cups on the sideliens for the scrubs playing last nite. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it before. He may be a little on the anal side as he kept lining the cups to get them perfectly straight. Well I found it cool that in this day and age that a star was doing the teammate thing. I may bump Smith up my ranks accordingly.

Oh...Carr still sucks and Davidson is making Henning look like Martz.

From #1 WR to #0?

Exactly why I drafted him as my WR1.

I just drafted Smith in my IDP league as my LB. I mean, look at what Bobby Boucher did.

I think he's referring to overall rankings, not WR rankings; and he's now top 3 in leagues with bonus points for gatorade pouring/cup aligning.

Delhomme may surprise this year as I think that the Cats may be playing catch up a bunch.

If you watched last night and still think that Foster needs to be the starter over Williams then you need ot have your head examined. Foster was back to his stutter stepping ways and williams runs like a bat out of hell. I am staying with my prediction of Williams will be the starter no later than game 4

Anyone else think that their o-line looks absolutely abysmal? I woiuldn't take a panthers RB on a bet, and it even has me concerned that Smith will be in for a down year. I mean, that unit has looked God-awful thus far.

Mark my words..I will not have a RB on my teams if their name begins with De...no Bells either!

I haven't seen any of the CAR preseason games, but wasn't Foster averaging like 10 yards per carry before last night? He tore the Giants starters up, didn't he?

Dunno... he's damn cheap right now; may have some value.

Good luck with that. As someone who drafted them both last season, it was painful to watch the carries be divided up between these two. The knock on Williams is he can't pass block. Until he learns that essential skill, it will be the same old story.

What's your beef with Davidson, dude? Why don't you wait for the season to be in progress before you start throwing knives at the guy. His calling can't be worse than Hennings was last year.

BassNBrew is usually spot on with his Panther analysis, but I agree, he has been pretty hard on Davidson so far. Opinions are mixed on how well Henning was doing, and in my opinion the playcalling had become stale and he didn't seem to be able to adapt well to the players that he has before him. They were still running the offense for Stephen Davis when they didn't have Davis, or the roided up line that blocked for him. The jury is still out on Davidson, but I am not going to judge him based on 4 preseason games.

Can you explain your smiley?
You've been bashing Foster and celebrating Williams all summer. You originally said this summer that Williams will be the starter on opening day, but when you read Foster was going to be the starter, you have pushed back Williams starting date to no later than week 4. Foster has done well in preseason, and he only got 3 carries last night, but Williams had one nice run for 12 yards on his 4 carries, so now that must prove that he is a big upgrade over Foster? I think that's silly. They both will be used a lot this year, but Williams is not a big upgrade over Foster at this point like you make him out to be. He could be in the future. From seeing the things you have typed about Foster in the last couple months, I get the impression you really want to see him fail, and as a Panther fan I don't understand that.

I hear you man, but myself and the other big panther fans have always conceded that Foster would be the opening day back. Foster has not done "well" this preseason. He had one good game against a shoddy giant defense. I will not use that one game vs. 4+ years of watching Foster stutter step his way through the backfield. Foster is insanely injury prone and always seems to fumble at the wrong time. He fumbled last night but it was ruled (incorrectly) down.

I will ask you this, did you watch the game last night?

The bolded is such a silly thing to say.

this is the kinder, gentler Steve Smith. not the version that went fight-club on Anthony Bright.

I posted this in another thread because the perception was Delhomme was terrible last year -Delhomme's per game average as a Carolina Panther (61 games):218 yards passing 1.46 TD's passing.95 INTsOver a 16 game season that's 3,497 passing yards 23 TD's & 16 INT's (Plus 40 yards rushing and ~1 TD).People forget Delhomme was a Pro Bowler in 2005 and threw 29 TD's in 2004. Last year the OL lost three starters and the defense gave the O horrible field position, as well as produced much fewer turnovers as compared to 2005. The front office canned the OC for the public perception of unimaginative play calling. 2006 was an awful year all around in CAR and everyone placed blame on Jake. However, his per game averages were 215 yards passing and 1.3 TD's while throwing under one pick per game. Basically, if a healthy OL and new zone blocking scheme can help keep the defense rested via more sustained drives, its possible that the negative trends for field position and turnovers from 2006 may reverse with regards to the play on the defensive side of the ball.I am not saying Jake is in for a pro bowl season, or the Panthers will make a deep playoff run, but I do think his numbers should be decent. After all, he was on pace for 3,400 yards passing and 20+ TD passes again last year....which would have been three in a row at that level. One final note: He tossed 9 TD passes in his final five games last year after only thowing 8 in his previous eight games, so he finished strong.

Is there ever a RIGHT time to fumble?!

I noticed the majority of the carolina panters were wearing nikes. I'm going to bump them up my draft chart accordingly. I also noticed some of the players opted for water over gatorade. Anyone who chooses water over gatorade drops 3 spaces on my chart.

Never underestimate High Quality H2O!

so no one else is concerned about their ramshackle o-line?
The line looked good against the Giants, but not so much after that this preseason. Last year they were decent in pass protetion but horrible in run blocking. I think the left side of the line is decent, but it really remains to be seen if they can improve their play once the season starts. I wouldn't describe the line as ramshackle though.

The coaching staff has been shuffling a few guys around on the OL for preseason games, too. Hopefully they've settled in on the five guys they'll go with and let them develop some chemistry and continuity.

IMO, the new zone blocking scheme they've installed is going to take time to develop, if it even does this year.

Thought it was a bad hire. When was the last time they scored a TD?Not not a word of this to simey as she's threntened to bust my kneecaps if I don't stand and cheer for the Panthers.

lol Delhomme and Colbert hooked up for a 48 yard TD against the Patriots in preseason. I hope they have found the right fit for the offensive lineman. They have been shuffling them around this preseason.

Thanks for reminding me about that. I turned that game off when the Pat's JV team was running over our starters.
