Odd and quirky rules (1 Viewer)

I'd like to put some fun things in place in my league. If your player is arrested, suspended, etc. you receive some kind of penalty.

Who has some oddball rules in their league?

we make a list at the begining of the draft with about 20 things on it:

1st kicker taken

1st d taken

1st te

1st criminal taken

1st Det Lion

1st 2nd QB

1st guy with two guys from same team

guys named Jones Lewis or Johnson (we have owners with those last names in our league)

stuff like that

also throw in some guys like

Brady

85

etc, guys that will be drafted....and whoever takes them has to do a shot

team that finished with least amount of total points scored has to carry a brick around for the entire draft, bathroom, keg, etc....can't go anywhere without it...

we do a two week super bowl, combining scores in week 16 and 17

You mean like PPR or start 2 QB's?

This is a rule that's hard to enforce. I suppose you could act as the NFL commish and if someone's player is arrested or something you can have them give up draft picks, but I think the suspension handed down from the NFL front office is enough punishment.

Seems like you're trying really hard to reach for something to keep you busy as commish.

Advice I can give you- less is more. You do stuff like this and guys will lose interest, say it's a dumb rule, it's really not worth the trouble. Just have fun with your league. Trying to make it complicated drives people away and sucks all the fun out of it

we have a similar rule... The owner is fined a transaction fee for the offense...

Why would you penalize them? I tried to get bonus points for arrests/indictments/suspensions in the first :e: league. I can't remember if it worked.

Make it a requirement to start a rookie each week. Definitely adds some drama to a draft. Rookie kickers are gold in this format.

We have a put up or shut up rule when it comes to trades.

In the past people would veto trades for the wrong reasons or people would make really lopsided trades and some how they would pass and people would just b#tch and b#tch.

Since we are a dynasty league it made it much harder to even have a veto rule becuase one team may be trading for the future, etc, etc.

So we started a put up or shut up rule. "TRUMPING A TRADE"

Here is part of the rule right out of our league rules:

All trades will go through our counter offer process. Once a trade has been agreed upon by two or more owners the trade is final unless either of the owners decides to accept a trade from another team involving the same key players. This is a keeper league; we do not have any voting process to prevent uneven trades. If you as an owner feel a trade is unfair, you may make your own offers to either team to "up-the-ante." In the end, it is up to the original owner's discretion as to what they want to do. This "Counter offer" process will be for 24 hours.

This has been a great rule for our league. Nobody can complain - if you feel Matt Ryan for Carson Palmer is unfair - then you need to step up to the plate and make a better offer to one of the teams to "TRUMP" the team. Plus it adds drama when someone is trying to trump your deal. You think you are getting Palmer for an unproven rookie and you have to cross your fingers nobody tries to stop it.

In the league I run there is no team D but instead 4 IDP flex. If you start 3 DLs it take 33% off of opposing RBs. If you start 3 DBs it takes 33% off of opposing WRs. Since the DLs and DBs don't score as consistently as LBs it adds to their value. It forces owners to start balanced lineups between RB and WR (start one each w/ 3 flex) and adds value to the QB and TE position in addition to adding value to the better IDPs because those positions can't be penalized.

This is a great rule. Really interesting. I am going to imploy this rule in my league this year

Perhaps I phrased things poorly. I was just thinking an owner would have to pay x dollars if one of their players was arrested. Or something along those lines.

This is interesting, however could you explain it further with an example or two. Im either just dumb or missing how it works exactly.

the last place team will have his team re-named by the other owner's in the league

he must keep the new name for the entire following season

I think you may need to define "fun" for the locals.
