Odell Thurman (1 Viewer)

Anyone hear anything lately or think this guy can make it back in to the NFL? I know he is a drunk, but so was Koren Robinson, and apparently he has made it back. Thurman seemed to have a bright future and now he is not even on the Bengals roster, in fact someone else has his number. Will some team take a chance on a talented, young but obviously stupid player like this? Would you want YOUR team to pick him up and give him a chance?

That's actually a great question, and unfortunately I have no idea. It's funny, my fantasy league still has his picture on the home page. :goodposting:

 Picture on its home page? Seriously? What blinded homer commish with a defensive fetish would leave such a thing up?I haven't been able to confirm it anywhere, but I believe Thurman is on the Bengals' reserve/suspended list. That may not mean he's a Bengal obviously. Thurman's talent is such that someone will roster him if he's reinstated and can prove himself in game shape. Not many guys his size and speed with those kind of playmaking instincts -- 1.5 sacks, 5 FF and 5 INT as a rookie.I'd love to see him back in a Bengal uniform if he's gotten his life straightened out. There is something fishy about his reinstatement process, though, and you have to wonder what it is that we don't know and won't be told.

I did a little searching and the one thing I did notice was, his name has been out of the "bad" news, I guess that is a positive, right? I just picked him up in a Dynasty league, unfortunately I am not making the playoffs, after winning it all last year, so I started cutting dead weight and picking up potential. I hope he works out, but if not, noting really lost, for me anyway, everything for him.

i think i read that he was not attending AA classes, which may have been one condition of his reinstatement?

Unsure what the conditions of his reinstatement are/were, but he was reportedly doing those things before July 11. That's what's so maddening about this situation. To our knowledge, Thurman was accused of assault by a couple of folks whose stories didn't match in places and no charges were filed and missed a probation hearing. Neither are examples of model citizenry and neither are things a guy who needed to toe the line should have been risking, but I'd argue that neither were significant enough to warrant an indefinite extension of his suspension.Ricky Williams -- four time offender (18 months right?). Koren Robinson -- repeat offender. Tank Johnson -- jailed for guns. All are back in the league. To be perfectly clear, I'm not defending Thurman or his actions and I'm not about to suggest society's goofballs should be given third and seventh chances. Just pointing out again that there has to be more here than we're currently aware.
