Sure, it's possible that Davis will yet emerge... but don't you think A.J. expected him to be an impact player by now? If he didn't, why take him in the first round?
Sure. At the time Davis was drafted, Vincent Jackson still hadn't done anything, Chris Chambers was a Dolphin, Malcom Floyd had never been healthy, and Legedu Naanee was still awaiting his draft-day phone call.WR looked like a huge need at the time. The Chargers are loaded there for now, and if AJ had foreseen that I'm sure he would have preferred to use the pick on an offensive or defensive lineman instead. But if Jackson & Chambers & Floyd & Naanee hadn't worked out, Davis might be the Chargers' WR1 right now.
At this point, it would seem to b an extreme long shot that Davis will work out for San Diego.
Well, Chambers is almost certainly gone after this season. That will give Davis a shot next year. What he does with it is up to him, but I see no
prima facie reason to think he can't contribute as well as Naanee and Floyd. According to Norv, Davis is behind Naanee and Floyd right now
not because they are better receivers, but because they are better special teams players. When he gets a chance to be a receiver, he may do as well or better than them. Or he may not. Who knows? The point is that it's premature to write him off until he gets a chance.
