*** OFFICAL 2009 San Diego Super Chargers Season Thread *** (1 Viewer)

STOP CALLING FOR NORV'S HEAD!!
I want to understand this. 1) In the best of all possible worlds, would Norv be the head coach for your favorite team?

2) If not, if there were superior coaching talent available, wouldn't you want to upgrade?

3) Do you think there is superior coaching talent available?

To answer my own questions:

1) Hell no

2) Of course

3) Yes

Which leaves me with the unavoidable conclusion that someone better than Norv should be the HC for the Chargers after this season. unless they somehow win the super bowl

Gunz - your take on that?
Ah - the bold clears it up. My answer to your questions is yet to be determined, as the outcome of the 2009 season will strong influence how I feel about Norv.
Good answer.I'm not sure what difference it makes unless you can replace Turner with the superior coaching talent available. I'd take Cowher over Turner... but can you guarantee Cowher takes the job? Can you be certain that WAS or CLE doesn't throw a TON of $ at him? I'd take Dungy or Fisher in a heartbeat but there's no guarantee either of those guys will be available or interested in coaching next season.

Kind of reminds me of a few years ago when the fans of about 16 teams wanted the coach fired so Denny Green could come in and save the franchise, but only ARZ was lucky enough to get saved by Green. Turner has two division titles and 3 playoff wins in the past two seasons. I think it's going to be tough to improve on that for whoever replaces him.

VERY important Charger information here.
 I'll be in the stands this weekend for Eli Bowl. I really wish the Giants had won a game or two the past few weeks. They are going to be hungry. It's a huge game for both teams so I'm hoping for a shoot out. Look for me. I'll be the one in the Chargers sweatshirt! (probably being pelted with beer bottles.)

What a great ending to the game yesterday! I was impressed with the number of Charger fans in the stadium. My section in the mezzanine was 30% Bolt fans. The best part was most of the Giant fans left when Rivers threw the late pick! I bet they were ticked when they reached their cars. It was ugly at times, particularly running the ball, but I'll take it any way I can get it.

I feel dirty, but GO STEELERS! :lmao:

That's awesome - great game to be at.1 game behind the Broncos now.

i got a feelin both SD & Denver make the playoffs, but we saw the true Orton these last 2 games IMO.

56 seems to be rounding into form

Tough game vs. the Eagles at least its at home, while Denver gets a cupcake in the skins

Aren't you the guy who conceded the game early yesterday? If you were at the game, would you have stayed until the end...? If not, you might not have felt it was such a great game...

A question and a comment for Chargers fans.

Q. Has Vaughn Martin gotten any playing time? Is he ever going to play a significant role in that defense?

C. Rivers should have won the MVP award last year and is quickly becoming a darkhorse candidate this year in my opinion. After Brady, Manning and Big Ben, theres no QB I'd rather have than Rivers.

He is very raw, wont make an impact this season at all, he played Canadian college ball. He's a project. They brought in a dude off the street that was renting cars and he plays more than him

No road game is cake in the NFL. Ask all the Greenbay fans who had penciled in the win at Tampa. Or Eagles fans who penciled in the win at Oakland. Etc. The Broncos are reeling, I give the Redskins a decent shot to win. We could be tied for first place before we even get to Denver.

 But we have to deal with the Eagles and I think McNabb is due to be on the "Hot" swing of his Hot/Inept pendulum. Anyone know the status of Hardwick? The pass blocking has been okay, but I would love to see him come back soon.

I think SD matches up well with Philly. Their Oline has been giving up sacks and 56 and 95 are rounding into form, McCoy looks ok and rumor is that Westys ankle is not 100%. Now on the Offensive side of the ball, I dont expect LT to do anything and it will be Vjax vs Samuel. cant wait to watch that. Philly has been giving it up to TEs too, so Gates might be a monster.

I watched until the end - you bet I would have stayed to the end if I were at the game. I never leave early. Doesn't keep me from getting petulant and bitter while I'm there though.

Norv Turner has the best winning percentage in the playoffs of any Charger head coach.

Trivia question: What Charger head coach has the best winning percentage in the regular season?

BTW :finger: to Fox for shoving the lousy Cowboys/Packers game down the throats of the greater L.A. area today instead of showing the Chargers.

so here we sit 6-3 and tied with the Donkeys heading into Sunday.

Gotta give Norv some credit here, he had his team ready togo the last two weeks.

Lets take control of the division and win

And you have to give props to the O-line. There was some nice run blocking for once and LT didn't try to do too much. He just hit the hole straight and, what do you know, 4-8 yards! That was nice to see. I hope they can keep it going.

I think the Eagles were missing some significant players from their D.

Then again the Broncs just gave up 27 to the punchless Skins, so who knows.

I figured the Donks would lose in Washington, they are officially spiraling down the drain. It's their season this weekend. If Chris Sims is the QB, I would say the Bolts have to be favored. At this point though, I will be suprised if the Chargers don't win at least 10 games. It was nice to see LT back on track yesterday, offensive line continues to improve. The pass rush was still a dissapointment, but McNabb took a ton of 3 step drops so it was hard to tell which was the bigger factor there. Another good win for the the good guys.

They were, but it's still an improvement by the Chargers line. Positive running yards are better than none.

Let's not forget that we lost Jamal too. If anyone's been hurting for injuries on defense, I'd argue that Jamal is a bigger loss than any of the players that didn't play yesterday for the Eagles. (Sucks about Westbrook though, he's a great player.) The bend-not-break defense we saw last night with no pressure is bringing back bad memories...Glad to get that win at home without giving up any huge plays by Desean or Maclin; that's what I was worried about.

Things shaping up very nicely for SD schedule wise from here on out. We're catching the Broncos in disarray with Orton possibly being out, then back to back games vs 1-7 teams (Chiefs, Browns) before finishing with Dallas, Cincy, Tenn, and Washington. The Bolts should be favored in every game going fwd except the Dallas game.

Meanwhile, the banged up and reeling Broncos have a hot SD club coming in this week, with the Giants, Colts, and Eagles still on the schedule. Ouch.

I've got the Bolts finishing at least 11-5, with the Donks ending up 9-7. If SD stays hot and finishes 12-4, we could be looking at a first round bye and HFA in the divisional round, depending on how the Pats and Bengals finish.

Antonio Cromartie being investigated by the district attorney's office after allegedly being involved in a bar fight last night in Pacific Beach. Somebody thew a champaigne bottle that hit somebody in the head. Cromartie and two other Chargers were there. Reports conflict on whether Cromartie was the thrower.

Terrible timing. He was playing very well. I'll never understand professional athletes.

 This kind of thing drive me nuts. The schedule looks good, but if they don't stay focused (and classy), they could lose some of these upcoming games that should be easy victories. We are going to need some home games in the playoffs to have any chance.

Dammit. Really? geez

Morning BUMP!!!Wow what an ### kicking of the donkeys. 11-5 looks about right.
11-5 looks like worst case to me for the Bolts. #2 seed is realistic now if the Pats slip up along the way.
Pats Bolts and Bengals all tied at 7-3. We will see. love to grab the #2 seed this year.
Bolts host the Bengals - so I think that will take care of itself. We'll know more about where NE will be seeded in the next 2 weeks.

STarting OT Clary to IRChargers sign John Runyan, who got cut by the Lions
Runyan never played for lions. He was on eagles for 10 yrs,, never missed a game free agent this year coming off knee surgey. Went to visit few teams, but no one signed him til the bolts. If health he will bring toughness and nastiness to the line. Popular player in Philly for years. Good signing that really cant hurt

Maybe I was thinking John Jansen another michigan player.Either way, how much could either one of them have left?

STarting OT Clary to IRChargers sign John Runyan, who got cut by the Lions
The Chargers signed veteran free agent T Jon Runyan, who replaces starting right tackle Jeromey Clary after Clary was placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury.Runyan, who turns 36 three days before Sunday's game, has been one of the NFL's premier offensive tackles over the previous 13 seasons The past 12 seasons (1997-08), he never missed a regular season or postseason start, totaling 213 straight games (192 consecutive regular season starts and 21 postseason starts). He hasn't played this season."We are very fortunate that a player of Jon's experience and ability was available at this time," Chargers general manager A.J. Smith said. "He is an outstanding competitor, and I have always admired the physical, nasty approach he brings to the field every game. He will be added to the mix and we will move forward."Runyan said he is fit."I'm probably in the best shape I have been in 10 years," he said. "I've been training that much."

man I was kinda of worried about KC in this game. But they must have forgot about gates. LOL

After this cleveland mess, tough stretch coming up. - @Dallas, Cincy, @Tenn. need to get 2 of those.

Cassel real melted under pressure. Sure there arent many tools to work with, but ye gods he was bad yesterday. The way the defense is playing, I suspect getting 2 of those wins will be probable. At this point I would bet the Bolts will finish 12-4 and get the #2 seed. I really like the amount of pressure they have been getting. Its producing turnovers, and wins. The Cincy game should be flexed as it will have major Playoff Seed implications, but Lord Favre is on the docket that night (against a crappy Panther team) so who knows.

Ugh. The networks will stick with Favre as the Vikes cream another cupcake. Would rather see the better and more important game on national TV, though.

The Browns are in a season of milestones, and a pretty big one is just up ahead for them. If Brady Quinn can pass for 88 yards, he will shatter the 1000 yards passing mark on the season. Jamal Lewis just shattered the 500 yards rushing mark on the season with his herculean effort in the Bengals game, running for 40 yards en route to retirement. Star WR Mohamed Massaquoi needs just 15 yards receiving to eclipse the 500 yard mark as well. Massaquoi also has a receiving TD to put the exclamation point on his rookie campaign. They've done all this without unleashing Brian Robiskie.

Wewease Bwian!

a few things:

Weddle is out 2 weeks, Norv hopes to have him back for the bengal game.

Merriman might be held out next week vs. Cleveland as well

Dombrowski looked good, despite the fact that it was the Chefs, played solid

Norv is almost guaranteed and extension. Hmmmmm..... (rumor from Aceee)
