***Official '16-'17 NHL Season Discussion Thread*** (1 Viewer)

I just came in here to ask that.  I don't follow hockey at all (barely did when the Thrashers were here).  10 goals and winning by 10 is extremely rare, right?  Like once every few years or more kind of thing?
1st time an NHL team has scored 10 since 2011 I think.

Buchnevich with a sweet goal. Hope that is a sign of things to come for a long time.

Rangers score 5 again.

Gophers should tell Barry to go eff himself and join the NCHC
Problem is, the Big Ten charter requires the league to sponsor a sport if they have at least six participating schools.

I'm guessing Minny doesn't want to go the independent route for football and other sports (trust me, they don't).

This is a pretty crazy stat

Rangers are 186-3-11 since Feb. 6, 2010 when leading after two periods.

Anthony DeAngelo made his NHL debut and scored in it last night. He fascinates me as a player. In his last season in the OHL, he only played 55 games, but scored 25 goals and had 89 points... and he's a defenceman. He won CHL player of the year that year (in his draft year the year before he also had 70+ points).

The flip side is that he can't seem to stay out of trouble. He hit the rare trifecta in the OHL in receiving separate suspensions for abuse of an opponent, an official and a teammate.

He was a healthy scratch 8 times in Syracuse (TB AHL) last season because of concerns about his defensive play, the offense was still there. He was then traded by Tampa to Arizona in the offseason. He's in a decent situation in AZ - even though they're heavy on D, a lot of their guys (OEL aside) are more defense oriented and he's the right age to fit in perfectly with their core.

Anyway, will be interesting to watch. I could see Deangelo being an offensive dynamo who puts up points for years, or being an up and down guy who never puts it all together.

I thought it was weird yzerman punted on him so early. Like you said he was benched a lot last year, but they are always looking for right handed defenseman.

Bryan Bickell diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis :(  . Lives here in the summer, known as a great guy and a close friend of a really good friend of mine.

They have been saying he was being scratched because of injury.  :(   He was playing on the 1st unit power play right in front of the goal when it was rocking.

Avs beat the Jets in OT on  true own goal.

Jet player was being forechecked against the boards and he turned real fast to clear and it went straight into net while keeper just stood there.

Hopefully a video will be forthcoming

went to my probable last game at Joe Louis Arena on Thursday vs Couver.

My son got to ride the Zamboni during the first intermission at his first ever game, crazy.

With AA out on IR , the wings have called up Mantha to take his spot.

we were in the company suite, kinda early Iike an hour before the game, and a wings customer rep stopped in to check on the suite, and she asked if my boy wanted to do it. Super lucky for him
How old is he?

I had two of my kids picked to do this when we had Ducks season tix.  Good times.

he is 10.
that's awesome.   They let me stand in the zamboni entrance on the glass for ten minutes of the game prior to them going on their ride.

My daughter was about ten when she was picked.  We were 5 minutes late for the game and put our entry card into the box. Five minutes later a rep came up to our seats and told us she had been selected. She took the one right off the top...

Hope you got some good pics!

yeah we did the same thing I was right behind Ryan Miller for like 8 minutes. Got good pics of him and Hank.

They announced his name and put him up on the scoreboard

Any updated thoughts on Marner vs Matthews vs Nylander in Toronto?
I think Matthews is and will be the best all around player. It's hard to judge because Matthews and Nylander draw the focus of the opponents shut down line on most nights and the third linemate with them is Hyman, so it's 3 rookies facing the hardest competition (this makes the Matthews-Laine comparison tough too, there's no Scheifele here). Then the Kadri-Komarov line gets the task of shutting down the opponents best line. That leaves Marner with veterans in Bozak and JVR and facing neither a top line or a shutdown line, so he's putting up the best offensive numbers as of late and is also the flashiest of the three on top of it. He will always be the most exciting to watch, I think but in the long run Matthews will still be the franchise player, but maybe in the less exciting Kopitar-like mold, IMO.

Matthews is the franchise player, he is probably gonna be a top 10 all-around player for years and years.  Marner however has a Theo Fluery thing about him, he's got great instincts and a nose for the net.  Seems to me he could be putting up better scoring numbers than Matthews at times, but not as steady. Nylander looks like a calming force, good discipline and hockey sense and he likes to move the puck.

Good problem to have, guess being so terrible all those years is finally starting to pay off.  They are a fun team to watch.

JT Miller just scored on a beautiful deflection after the Rangers got dominated by Vancouver for the first 19 minutes.
