***Official '16-'17 NHL Season Discussion Thread*** (2 Viewers)

That was a sick pass from Kessel to Crosby and an even more incredible save by McElhinney, although if Sid gets any air under it it's a tie game.

Wild get Yeo and the blame Elliotts. then Nashville after their Hawks bye week.  can't wait.

I can't understand why Winnipeg and Carolina aren't playoff teams.

As far as playoff opponents go, Minnesota is probably one of the better draws... right after the Blues. Too many pieces missing from this team right now. Actually feel pretty good about their future, though.

Was wondering what your thoughts on Lucic are after watching him for the season...
When Lucic signed the 7 year contract with Edmonton it seemed like it was at least 2-3 years too long. After seeing him play all season, my opinion of the contract hasn't changed. I was worried he couldn't keep up to his linemates due to his skating and at the start of the season it appeared I was wrong. But, he started strong, faded through the middle of the season and has bounced back in the last 10-15 games. He has 23 goals and 25 assists. Lately most of his goals have been tap ins as he hangs around the crease and bangs in rebounds. I'd like to see the Oilers do the same thing to Lucic that they did with Maroon. They challenged him to improve his skating in the offseason and lose some weight to help him get around the ice better. Given the history between Lucic and Chiarelli, I'm not sure they will challenge Milan.

At times during the middle of the season, it looked like he was dragging his butt around out there, but he has looked better the last 10 games or so. Maybe there was an injury involved.

Cut Wild fans some slack. I mean, they have made it past the 1st round THREE times in 16 seasons to date.  Their fans are probably euphoric just to be in the playoffs.
this is rich, considering the Blame Elliotts have done it once more over that period and didn't start from scratch as an expansion team.  they're so used to losing they give away their best defenseman in expectation of failure.

probably Elliott's fault.

Let me help you our here, chief.

Your precious Wild have four playoff series win in 16 seasons to date thus far.  How exciting.  The Blues, despite their many postseason failures, have six in that same time span.  And from 1981-1999, the Blues won 13 playoff rounds, so while that first Cup is still oh so elusive, our entire history is certainly not first round loss after first round loss, like some would have you think.

Good luck to your little franchise in snagging that whopping fourth playoff round win here in the next two weeks against one of the weaker Blues teams to ever make the playoffs.

let me help you out here, captian.  making it out of the first round and total series wins are two different things.  might want to figure out which lame ### brag you're going for before you start counting all those participation trophies.

I know exactly where you are coming from...I always liked him and he is legit tough...his issue has always been that when he pulls these disappearing acts he is almost useless...than he will be on his game and it is tough to comprehend how it can be the same player...when he is going north-south and skating hard to the net he can be a force...when he starts dangling too much that is usually a bad sign...

Canes got a cup, :P  and missed the playoffs 9 times in the last decade.  I'll take the cup.  But I miss playoff hockey, a lot and even though I consider listening to Forsland calling playoff hockey a Canes game sometimes.

It's not bragging, chief.  Just simply pointing out that for all of the Blues playoff failures, they've still had more playoff success than your previous Wild. You might want to wait until your team does a little more in the postseason before you start talking too much ####. You're like a Houston Texans fan talking ####.

I hear ya. I would gladly trade tons of playoff appearances for one Cup win.  Fortunately, as a Denver Broncos and St. Louis Cardinals fan, I cannot complain about lack of championships in my life as a sports fan, but that Blues Cup win will probably be forever elusive.

Leafs-Caps on Thursday and Saturday. Gotta figure that's a night game for Hockey Night in Canada. Wiz home Saturday too, which means the ice is going to be terrible later that night

I'm guessing we don't get any schedules until after the Oilers-Canucks game is over?

Stupid Burton ... even when his team isn't in, he ruins it for everyone.

Bob Probert was one of the most feared players in the NHL during his playing days and rightfully so.

One of the toughest players to ever play the game, Probert played nine seasons with the Detroit Red Wings and is the team?s all-time leader in total penalty minutes (2,090) and penalty minutes in a single-season (398).

On Sunday, the Red Wings played their final game at Joe Louis Arena and made sure the entire day was a memorable event.

However, one of the cooler moments of the day was one that wasn?t part of the original farewell plan.

After the game, Probert?s family spread his ashes inside the Red Wings? penalty box.

Dani Probert, widow of Bob Probert, told The Detroit Free Press that it was a bittersweet moment for her and mentioned how she came with her family during Christmas time and took a picture with her husband?s urn in the penalty box.

Thank you it was an emotional weekend! https://t.co/aGs13tNKbe

Probert finished with 3,300 career penalty minutes in 935 games, and ranks 5th on the NHL?s all-time penalty minutes leaders.

Oilers went from finishing 29th overall last season to the top 10 this season. But, the playoffs are a completely different challenge. I wonder what condition Thornton and Couture are in?

Oilers in 6.
Have to hope those two are ready to go. Going with Sharks in 6.  Hope the playoff experience counts for something.
