it's crazy that Toronto is already a buyer.  hell of a job with that rebuild
Babcock is getting the absolute best out of that group it seems. Really impressed with what Kadri has done under him for example. Rookies getting all the hype, and deservedly so, but Kadri and JVR and even Bozak are playing better than they ever have its seems.

The play should have been called offside. Before the puck crossed, his left skate was fully over the blueline and his right skate was almost over it too when he jumped up. The jumping shouldn't have impacted it, offsides.
it is offside if the left comes up before the right.  I think it does, but it is really close.  good non-call IMO.

I agree it is crazy, but not because of the hell of a job they are (in the process of) doing.

That team is a few pieces away.
they tore the whole thing down two years ago and are probably going to get a division seed with an extremely young team.  they probably aren't in for a deep run in a very good east, but not sure what you'd expect.  it's about as good as you can expect for a rebuild and it's not like they had to sit in the basement for a decade like most of the current forces today...they're already relevant. and those pieces are already in the organization, it's just that they're still teenagers.

are you saying its a bad move to give up a 2nd for a rental?  They're loaded with picks and youth.  why not

Sens traded a very good prospect in Dahlen to Couver for Burrows. He waived his NMC and signed a 2-year extension for $2.5MM per.

Stars also traded Jordie Benn to Montreal.

Hockey playoffs are a crapshoot. If you're not giving up anything major, it's worth it to try and make a run. Even just having one competitive series can help a young team long term.

also, Leafs division is terrible so they have a decent shot to get to the 3rd round if they only need to get past Ottawa and Montreal for example. They need help on the blueline IMO but so do a lot of teams.

I couldn't believe how old Burrows was.  feels like he was biting off fingers in his prime just yesterday

Tampa apparently not done, Filppula in play and maybe Johnson. Have seen both floated around in random rumors.

This is surprising to me @Capella, what's going on? Mostly cap management?

Well Boyle and Bish were UFA. They had to go. Flip has a no-move clause so they may have to keep him in the expansion draft unless he waived that to go to Vegas (he probably wouldn't).

Johnson has been ok but never made that leap and the word is they would get a top-4 defenseman for him. I'm down for that.

I agree it doesn't make sense, but only because they didn't make this trade sooner when they could have gotten a better return. It also doesn't make sense that they have prioritized players like Lehtera and Bouwmeester over guys like Shattenkirk and Backes. But it is what it is and the Blues weren't going to win it all this year anyway. Had to get something.

I don't necessarily see it as waving the white flag any more than they already were. They aren't very good this year.

sucks for the Kings.  usually takes them a week to put 4 on the board and they didn't even get two points.

guess you can only live off OT wins for so long.  poor Bucky.

Well, apparently Armstrong had Shattenkirk dealt three different times and all three times, Shattenkirk would not sign an extension. I do think it does show a really misplaced set of priorities when guys like Shattenkirk, Oshie, Backes, and Brouwer have to go because JayBo and Lehtera are such albatrosses.

That said, take all of the history with Shattenkirk's rumored deals aside, and I thought the Blues did OK for what essentially is a rental. I still hate that Armstrong boxed himself into this situation, but it is what it is. Blues do have good defensive depth and I'm looking forward to seeing Parayko in an enhanced role now.

Central playoff teams selling their best defensive asset at the deadline for a couple crappy picks is some of my favorite shtick.  and they moved a depth/prospect goalie when they are unstable in net too?  I hope this continues.

I hope Holland gets off his ### now and unloads Smith, Vanek, and whatever else he can.  Surely someone wants the best 3rd line center in the league in Helm right?

Copley was the backup in Chicago and was a pending UFA. Not a big loss.

However, it does make the Oshie deal look even worse.

They just resigned Cally through 19\20 with a nmc

Either Johnson or Filppula could still go.
you have a weird definition of "just resigned". he's almost halfway done with his 6-year contract.

they'd love to get out from that deal I assume.
