***Official '16-'17 NHL Season Discussion Thread*** (1 Viewer)

A quick heads up on some great College Hockey tomorrow - best conference in the country NCHC has their 4 best teams squaring off in their Tourney. Game 1 is Minnesota-Duluth vs Western Michigan at 4CT and following that the hardest fought rivalry in college hockey over the last 15 years -The former Sioux of North Dakota takes on #1 in the nation University of Denver. DU features Troy Terry gold medal hero from the World Juniors and Henrik Borgstrom a 1st round Panthers pick that has been lighting it up with highlight reel goals of late. Several 1st rounders are on the Sioux squad. These two teams hate - really hate each other - it's usually a war. Each school has knocked an opposing player out with a broken neck over the last 15 years. They are usually playing with a lot at stake. Last year they were tied in the National Championship with a little less than 2 min left when North Dakota scored off a draw to send them on to their 8th Championship - DU has 7 National Championships and has revenge and redemption on their mind.

Should be 2 beauties - catch it on CBSSN

great turnout at the Joe for the Big10 semis, good to see all 22 people could make it.  cue DrD novel about corporate seats, local tax controls, and counter cyclical climate change issues that artificially affect attendance.  add another game to the announced sell-out streak.

Go into Carolina and taking the loss. Mn has come off the rails.
lol, they played fine.  they've faced zero adversity this season.  they were due for a bit of a slide and it comes on the toughest road trip of the year.

oh no

Just smothered DU on the puck and DU couldn't get untracked - great job on our top line. NoDak get a wild bounce off the back boards and beat Jalliet with a bit of a flukey play. Hard fought as always. Hope DU avoids Fargo regional for this reason - but the committee usually screws DU and sends them to another home -we've been sent to Madison, Manchester and Providence recently to play the Badgers, UNH and  Friars respectively. When it's one and done thats all it takes a bit of confidence and a home crowd to make a difference in a tight game.

unless there is a region in your backyard you'll always have to face someone near their home.  they schedule it that way.  otherwise you get 4 teams not from Michigan playing in front of 22 people at the Joe because Michigan hockey sucks too hard to reach the semis in a 6 team tourney.

One of my favorite shticks on the board.

A guy I know works for the B1G and was at the tournament. He posted on FB a picture of him and Red Berenson and noted that Berenson coached in the first game at Joe Louis when he was with the Blues.

Pretty crazy, Berenson came about two weeks short of outlasting an arena.

not only is DU going to get NoDak again in Fargo, but they get Tech round one which is a tough team and probably better than 5 other teams in the tourney IMO.  at least they aren't the poor 1 seed that is going to get stuck with Providence or Notre Dame though.  brutal.

NoDak is gaining strength and confidence and that will be a dangerous combo in Fargo. NCHC has the best teams this year and it looks like committee will have them knocking each other out in regionals instead of Chicago where they deserve a shot at making the Frozen Four - even if it means an all NCHC final. But they won't do that after 2005. As I see it at uscho - they have BU in Fargo as well which is sick - the talent they have could wake up at the right time here as well. Doubtful they win in Fargo - but that is a stacked region of NHL talent especially for the overall #1 seed to navigate. Not sure I've seen a region that stacked. Goofs look to be headed to Manchester - it's a shame they don't get sent to Fargo.  Fargo would be wild for a Sioux-Gopher matchup in the tourney.

I'm confused. I see Denver playing in the Midwest Region with Union and Penn State and Michigan Tech.

North Dakota and BU in round 1 in Fargo. UMD vs OSU in 1 v 4 there.

Harvard plays Providence in Providence.

Minnesota vs Notre Dame.

Whew....dodged a big bullet. Mich Tech is hot as of late - but this bracket is more predictable than going into the sea of green.

In actuality it takes Denver less time to travel to Cincinnati then to Fargo(unless they charter) - and for Duluth it's a drive(a bit long one) to Fargo. But UMD fans in the Twin Cities can head over easier.

My guesses are Denver, Lowell, NoDak, Harvard in Chicago

Watch it buddy. I've been told by a guy in the know, there is nothing to worry about with this team. Tough schedule, adversity, blah, blah.
Nothing to worry about at all.  Boudreau playing it so that he never has to play a game 7 at home this year.

:lmao:   I guess if you live in the land of magic and unicorns and thought this was the historic 130 point team they were on pace for and Dubnyk was going to finish with one of the highest season save percentages of all time north of .94%...then yeah, you should be pretty worried.

but I guess here in reality where they were always just a very good 100+ point team that was getting the benefit of luck to get unsustainable results where they hadn't lost back to back games since November and were due for a slide...no, it's not much to worry about.  especially when during that 5 game slide they dominated three of them (all on the road CHI, CAR, WPG) and should have got the win.  you know, like the several times during their run this year where they shouldn't have won but did.

things even out.  it's hockey.  the puck bounces this way and that.  relax.

Hat trick for Oshie. Amazing how the return of Burakovsky on 3rd line can impact the entire team
Burakovsky was on fire when he got hurt - I'm hoping (and it looks like it'll happen) that level of play is the rule and not the exception.  He seems to have picked up where he left off.

A lot of angst around here about Harvard, the No. 2 team in the country, having to play the Friars in Providence. But since PC isn't the official host of the regional (Brown is), there's no rule against it. And unlike basketball, which specifically avoids putting top seeds at a crowd disadvantage, the hockey committee emphasizes local teams for attendance purposes.

PC also came out of Providence as the 4 seed to win it two years ago. I don't see them having the team to do it this year, and Harvard shouldn't be at nearly as much of a disadvantage as Miami was getting shipped East in 2015.
