Thoughts on Marte's demotion a few days ago to call up RP Koplove? Yea, I said Koplove.Marte is now out of options.I guess they want him to hit everyday and enjoy watching one of Nixon/Dellucci butcher lefties.
I didn't see that he was out of options. Where did you read that?
In an Indians Blog that usually has good info. There is no link in there though.
"Options"After three years as a pro, a player must be protected on a team's 40-man roster, or he is eligible for the Rule 5 draft (more on that later). Once he's served those three years, and assuming he is added to the 40-man roster, his club then has what are called "options" on him. When a player is on the 40-man roster but not on the 25-man Major League roster, he is on "optional assignment." One common misconception about the rules is that a player may only be "optioned out" three times. Actually, each player has three option years, and he can be sent up and down as many times as the club chooses within those three seasons. When you hear that a player is "out of options," that means he's been on the 40-man roster during three different seasons, beginning with his fourth as a pro, and to be sent down again he'll have to clear waivers (more on those below).
Marte goes back to '01 or '02....doesn't he? I would think the days of optioning him are close to being over. All this means is he'll be like Guthrie and J. Davis this year, he'll have to be on the major league team next year and cannot be sent back down. I think we can call him up/down all we want still this year.

Tribe headed for 6.5 game lead on the Tigers by Sunday evening. ;)

This weekend is all about punking Detroit. Too bad the Lake Erie Monsters can't get a pickup game with the Red Wings on Saturday, we'd win that too!

Tough weekend for a Detroit fan no doubt. Don't you think the Cavs and Pistons should trade coaches for game 6 just to make it interesting. Congrats to the Indians on their current domination of the Tigers. Hopefully the Tigers can pull out of this before the hole gets to deep.

Crazy weekend. :goodposting:

 Sowers. It's June. Time to move him.

Not sure what the hell is wrong with Mastny. Was pitching very well until the weekend. Could be the Tigers getting to him as they're one of the better hitting teams. We'll see.

Royals in this week.

The best, actually.

hate it when wedge pinch runs for hafner, only to see his spot in the lineup come up with the bases loaded, down 1 in the bottom of the 9th... :lmao: :wall:

What was the pinch run situation again? Hafner got on to load the bases down 4-1 in the 8th and Gutierrez pinch ran? I'm not going to get all over Wedge for it as that was the tieing run, but it definitely would have been nice to have Hafner at the plate for the game. If we were only down 2 in the 8th, Hafner probably would have ran until he got to 2nd base, which he never would have.

Agree. Don't really fault Wedge. Just sucks that it happened that way.BTW...2-0 Tribe...going to the Bottom of 5th.

Casey Blake with a drive...deep left field....waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back...and gone!

16 game hitting streak for Casey. A 12 ptich at bat.

8-1

From the draft thread:

13. Cleveland IndiansBeau Mills, 3B, Lewis-Clark State CollegeHeight/Weight: 6-3, 220 | DOB: 8/15/86Mills made an unusual move from NCAA Division I Fresno State to NAIA powerhouse Lewis-Clark due to academic problems. But the move has paid off for him and he has rocketed into the first round in his junior season. He is now considered as one of the top three college bats in the draft along with Georgia Tech's Matt Wieters and U of Florida's Matt LaPorta. All three players possess above-average power potential and Mills' comes more from bat speed than raw strength. Mills has been exposed to professional baseball most of his life as his father Brad is a former Major League player and is currently the bench coach with the Boston Red Sox. Although not a speedster on the base paths, Mills is a smart runner who won't clog the bases. Defensively, his range is average but he handles everything he reaches. He may move to first base in pro ball. Mills is a solid leader who plays the game the right way.-Posted by Marc Hulet

Well, on the downside, we lost the game and the series. On the plus side, Sabathia was fantastic again, plus we finally sent Sowers down.

Thankfully.Tough loss yesterday. Not sure what has happened to our bats.

Good to see Jason Stanford back in action. Nice win for him.

Cleveland is 21-8 at home, the second-best mark in the majors, and starts a stretch Friday of playing 19 of its next 25 games at Jacobs Field.
:D
Cleveland's batting average as a team has gone from .260 to .273 over the last 29 games.

Like the bounce back factor after losing the first game of this past series on the road.

Another interesting number....the Tribe has played about 21 series this season so far....we've won the last game of the series 15 times.

Marlins’ manager Fredi Gonzalez said that Carmona “belongs in another league”.

I don't think he meant the minors or Japan.

Bobcat10> :bye:

In reference to your Jim Leyland bashing in the Tigers thread, most mangers would have taken their starter out in the ninth after the first two guys reached. I know Jim Leyland would have. I guess you manage in June like you do in September and if your bullpen is terrible like the Indians' is, I guess Wedge was right to leave CC in according to the book of baseball by Bobcat10. Didn't work out for you tonight did it? :lmao:

:headbang: While it's not the best, it's certainly not one of the worst. Like the Tigers is.

:lmao:
I wasn't talking about the Tigers. Thing is if they get Zumaya back, their bullpen immediately jumps the Indians. Since the Tigers hitting and starting pitching is better...well....you figure it out. :bye:

This is gonna be a great divisional race. Twins just blew a save btw, and then won on a walkoff and yes...I'm watching them closely. That team is very good.

Looking forward to fighting with Wade and Bobcat and the other Tribe fans all the way to October and maybe beyond since the Central will have two teams in the playoffs. :headbang:

ETA: Twins win.

The Wedge move could be argued both ways. CC does not equal that stiff who was batting for the Tigers. The Leyland move had no arguement the other way. Even your buddies on here disagree with you. Thanks for stopping by.

Blake extends hitting streak to 26

Tribe third baseman says he doesn't want feat to be distraction

By Sheldon Ocker

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - This is getting serious. Casey Blake still is a long way from threatening Joe DiMaggio's major-league record of 56 consecutive games with a hit, but his lengthy streak is a notable achievement.

Blake's first-inning single Sunday extended the streak to 26 games, longest in the big leagues this year and longest by an Indian since 1997, when Sandy Alomar hit in 30 consecutive games, one short of the franchise record, set by Nap Lajoie in 1906.

By this time, with newspaper stories alluding to the streak daily and comments on radio and TV, it's difficult for Blake to ignore the streak. But he doesn't want it to become a distraction to the team or an impediment to his own efforts at the plate.

``Lately, I've been getting my hit and getting out of the way,'' Blake joked. ``If I mixed in a couple of multi-hit games, that would be better.''

Hitting safely in his first at-bat at least takes the pressure off for the rest of the game.

``I suppose,'' Blake said. ``But I don't know if I'd call it a relief.''

The streak has gone on long enough for fans to mention it to him when he is out in public.

``It's not like throwing a no-hitter or anything like that,'' Blake said. ``But people talk about it. I don't care. They mostly just say, `Keep it going.' ''

In the clubhouse, the streak is not a popular topic.

``These guys don't say a whole lot about it,'' Blake said.

During the streak, Blake is batting .317 with seven home runs and 18 RBI.

``I don't want to be a selfish player,'' he said. ``This game is about the team and winning. The streak is secondary to winning.''

It is Blake's longest major-league hitting streak but not the longest of his pro career.

``I had a 31-gamer in 1998, between (Class A) Dunedin and (Double-A) Knoxville,'' Blake said. ``That was back when I could hit a little bit.''

Anytime you're mentioned with Nap Lajoie in a sentence that's gotta be nice feeling. Napoleon was no Jeff Kent as we all know, but he was a fine player.

Too bad the Sox are in our division....Dye and/or Buerhle would be welcome additions for some young talent. I just don't see anything happening there, especially with Shapiro always gunshy on dealing youngsters.

Hamels vs. the Cleveland lineup should be fun to watch tonight. Phils need this one because the next two are not looking good (although Leiber could be ok)
