Defending NL champs back in the house!!

Started off slow but won three games in a row against Atlanta.

Looks like the offense is started to roll again and the pitching has been solid. The defense is struggling a bit though. Still concern about second base though. Nix hasn't been hitting well.

Won four in a row to move to 9-8. Pitching has been coming around lately (solid outings by Francis and Cook) and the bullpen has been solid overall. Concerned a bit about Corpas blowing two saves in six chances though, and second base is still an area of concern.

Niiiiice bomb by Atkins there!

Rockies homers, is it a straight up platoon at 2B with Baker vs LHP and Barmes vs RHP? Or is Barmes sitting until Baker cools off?

Come on Ubaldo...you've been staked to a six run lead and you walk Luke Carlin? Carlin would have a hard time hitting the ball to the outfield if you moved the batters box to second base.

somehow they are only 6.5 games out. If they could ever get healthy they might make it interesting.

How much time do you think Koshansky will see with Helton out of the lineup? Will he at least get the AB's against RH pitchers?

The answer to that question is very little.

Rockies need to trade Helton. His salary will prevent them from keeping Atkins, Holliday, and others.

The lineup of:

Tavarez/Podsenski CF

Baker 2B

Holliday LF

Hawpe/Atkins RF/1B

Atkins/Hawpe 1B/RF

Stewart 3B

Tulowitzki SS

Ianetta C

is pretty strong with no easy outs. Baker, Stewart, and Ianetta have had good years and Tulo is starting to get hot after his early season slump and injuries. They can trade Tavarez for a pitcher and bring up Fowlers I'd be okay with that. Rockies are also apparently no longer sellers but buyers as they are looking at Arroyo and O'Dowd recently said that Holliday is off the market and Fuentes isn't likely to be traded either.

Apparently Francis is going to be activated and Hirsh is making his first start this year tomorrow. Finally getting healthy and with the schedule being favorable after the break they could make some noise.
