****OFFICIAL**** 2008 Washington Redskins Off Season Thread! (2 Viewers)

As a Cooley owner...I do not like the Davis pick.

As a Redskins fan and JCampbell owner....I LOVE the Davis pick.

Now I gotta draft Davis, sheesh

I like the 2 WRs and this is something I'd do in Madden...but I think they could have done better with these pics given the needs.

Guys...Cerrato just screwed us. Be prepared for a top 10 pick in next years draft to make up for these worthless lumps. Im just glad that Philly didnt get Campbell or Groves and they would rub our noses in this.

not sure why the gloom and doom here. Campbell needs weapons. He'll definitely have them now. Teams have to score points to win. The D was improved last year. Now the offense should be better, and deeper too. I'm actually happy with the picks. They found very good talent late last year. I'm hopeful they can do it again.

We'll get to check out what we missed in Groves when we play Jax the final preseason week.

How will Campbell be able to use all those weapons when half of them have to be on the sideline on any given down? How do you get all those guys (the new ones plus the old ones) on the field at once?

I think you guys are jumping the gun here. Cerrato said they were going to draft the best player available. And based on the results, I believe it. But the WR position is suddenly very crowded now.I have never heard of Fred Davis. I hope he's a really good TE, worthy of a 2nd round pick. Maybe Cambell and Grove just did not grade out very high for the Redskins.

They have these games on saturday's its called college football. He won the Mackey award. There was a great TE for the Colts, they named the award after him.

When the skins traded with Atl I was saying Campbell and Groves late in the second. The fact that they could have gotten both is pathetic. The jags traded up to get Groves right after Cerrato picked. I will be watching both this players this coming year and maybe everyone else should as well. And when the 3 receivers we got combine for 700 yards/4 TDs and Groves ends up being a star maybe Cerrato will fine green pastures elsewhere.

So should all the other GMs who passed on Groves up to that point be excused for passing on him? :excited:

All the GMs that need OLBs that drafted in the second round and didnt get him shouldnt be excussed for not drafting him. How old is Marcus Washington. How much time has he mised in recent years? How healthy is McIntosh? Hello!

Of course, it could turn out the other way. Davis and Kelley would end up being solid starters for 10 years while Groves and Campbell could be duds. No one really knows. But GMs are paid to have opinions and act of them. Our opininos are freebies. It will be interesting to watch and compare their careers though.

Did anyone else see in the April 21st Sporting News who they said was the most explosve defensive player in this years draft? Thats right...Quentin Groves. Im not saying they are the authority but if any national publication makes a remark like that it should mean the guy is worth a late 2nd round pick to a team who needs OLBs

Based on the madness of the results, I agree, too (that BPA was being strictly adhered to). But to stick to BPA to the detriment of a team's two most glaring needs (youth and depth on OL and DL) is pretty ridiculous.I'll admit, I'm having a knee jerk reaction. I'll even grant the possibility that 5 years from now we could be heralding this as the greatest 'Skins draft ever. But right now, I'm not seeing it. At all.

The Devin Thomas pick makes sense. Davis and Kelly, in those spots, do not. :lmao:

I see spread formations...with rookie WRs...and an old/banged-up OL...and a QB who doesn't make quick decisions...AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Devin Thomas was a steal where he was drafted. Davis actually sounds OK from this article in the Post.

Although Redskins tight end Chris Cooley went to the Pro Bowl after last season, the team is transitioning to Zorn's version of the West Coast offense and is expected to use multiple tight ends in formations.

As a senior at USC, Davis, 22, was the winner of Mackey Award as college football's top tight end. Davis had a personal-best 62 receptions for 881 yards (a 14.2-yard average) and eight touchdowns. The Redskins had a first-round grade on Davis, team sources said. Davis said he has studied Cooley ("I watch him a lot, that's one of my favorite tight ends to watch, No. 47," Davis said), and Davis expects to move around a lot in Washington's offense.
But what the hell is the fascination with Kelly? Does he have nude pictures of Cerrato & Snyder or something? They should have addressed one line or the other with that third pick, and perhaps with the second as well.

I'm guessing Thomas and Kelly were the top 2 wr's on the Skins board. Surely Davis was their #1 te. From a BPA perspective, they executed perfectly.

Personally, I have Groves rated above the latter 2 guys. He's arguably the best pass rusher in the draft. Wish we would of taken him instead of either Davis or Kelly.

All things considered, I'm pretty happy considering the fact we rumored to pick Kelly at #21 going in. Tomorrow, they need to focus on the lines. Hopefully some lineman of value will drop to us in the 3rd.

Look on the bright side, fellas - the results of this Draft almost guar-an-tee Vinnie Cerrato is one step closer to being fired...

...we're going to have to go through one hell of a Season before it happens, but good news is good news, and I think in the long term.

I seriously can't believe this.

I can't wait to see Groves getting some serious PT in Preseason Game 5...and absolutely DRILLING people all over the field!

Unfortunately, they're going to be wearing the wrong colored uni's. Greg is going to absolutely sic his dogs on us, and we're going to pay...in blood.

So, my close friend who works for the Redskins actually got the nod from the Team to go to Manhattan and sit at the 'skins table, taking the calls from the War Room and filling out the Pick Cards that get submitted.

I'm heading up tomorrow for my 5th Annual Trip To The Draft (Couldn't go today, because it's my Easter).

I had to call him tonight and basically swear on everything I hold sacred that I will not have ANY conversation with him regarding the Redskins Day One selections until we get back home and can speak privately...

...only because he knew after every pick they made that I was going absolutely ballistic down here.

I seriously can't believe this.

Mediocrity...what a concept!

Here comes the 2-TE formations....
This TE is pretty much in the Cooley mold too. I don't get it. Are they really going to run two te sets and have them both run routes that often?

...and we're not out of the woods yet in regards to Chad Johnson...

...from NFL.com's Analysis Write-Up of Malcolm Kelly:

Compares To: LARRY FITZGERALD-Arizona...Like Fitzgerald, Kelly takes advantage of his size and strength to break arm tackles rather than trying to get fancy with moves when trying to separate. Both have some of the best natural hands in the game, as Kelly was charted with only one dropped pass in the last two years. Perhaps due to the team's reliance on the running game, he will disappear for stretches on the field. But when he gets into that rhythm he will catch everything in site. Some teams might prefer Indiana's James Hardy, but Kelly is a more natural receiver and comes with no off-field baggage...

...and the damning final statement:

Could be a perfect fit in Cincinnati with Carson Palmer if Cincinnati trades Chad Johnson.

Ok, I'll give you guys some hope - They need WR's and they got two guys with nice upside with size that fit into the WCO. That makes sense.

The one pick you can really question is Davis, especially with Campbell on the board, but this was obviously done for some reasons relating to Zorn's offense, and maybe something they didn't like about Calais Campbell). Fred Davis is another Cooley IMHO. He's a very smooth route runner and receiver. I think that pairing him with Cooley will be a dangerous combo for a while, and the WCO is nothing if not a TE-featuring offense.

Finally, they have six more picks in the last five rounds. There's plenty of room for picking linemen or whatever it is you'd want them to pick.

Please just stick to your team forum. TIA!!!
