Positive as usual.I don't want him either (mora, Jr.). They'll lose 2-3 in a row at some point this year and he'll start talking about taking another job and will lose the team. Screw that.I don't want him either.

"In league circles, he was perceived as being too close to the players, and the players ran things," the source said. "He was too buddy-buddy with them, and they had some discipline problems."
I had posted something earlier that someone from the Redskins organization said their would be no presser today.Wow JLC looks like he just got out of bed with a massive hangover.Has there been a George Michael sighting at Redskins Park? If not, then there's no presser today. Besides the roads are probably bad out there for Danny to get from Potomac to Ashburn, and the ceiling is too low for his helicopter.
Nope, that's just how he looks, poor *******.I had posted something earlier that someone from the Redskins organization said their would be no presser today.Wow JLC looks like he just got out of bed with a massive hangover.Has there been a George Michael sighting at Redskins Park? Snyder flew to Seattle to get Mora, according to league sources, and the men chatted on the flight back to Washington. Mora, who was fired by Atlanta after the 2006 season after three years as head coach, spent the night at Snyder's home. Mora also has strong ties to Redskins vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato from their time together in the San Francisco organization; Cerrato and Snyder are conducting the interviews and are in essence the general managers of the team.
Sleepovers and charm shouldn't have anything to do with hiring a football coach. I kind of picture Snyder as that guy in Spaceballs, sitting in his office playing with his Princess Leia doll."Mora will give you a great interview," said one NFL executive who previously took part in a head coaching interview with him. "He's bright and engaging and he's incredibly prepared. I could definitely see him charming Snyder, there's no doubt in my mind about that. But he's also a little bit out there, with what he says and does sometimes. I'm not sure how you can sit there as an owner and talk about stability, stability, stability and then hire Jim Mora, but I can see why Snyder would be attracted to him."

Several veterans contacted yesterday said they anticipated a mass exodus of defensive coaches should Williams not get the job. Any outside candidate would likely want to assemble his own staff and players.

No, Dan and Jr. put in Madden 08 in franchise mode. Picked up FA's and made trades... After that, they did Danny's favorite...selected Redskins franchise, but selected FANTASY DRAFT. That is the inteview process...asking questions about why Mora took a certain player.
Yours truly will be talked out by noon the day before the Super Bowl. That's because as the Washington selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, I have to present three of the 17 finalists who were announced this afternoon: receiver Art Monk, cornerback Darrell Green and Russ Grimm.
I have been unsuccessful the past two years in getting Monk and Grimm elected. Maybe the third time's the charm. Or maybe I should have followed all of my male first cousins and gone to law school where I could have learned how to win an argument.
Well, that doesn't sound promising. Will it actually make a difference, one way or the other, having to be responsible for 3 HOF arguments? Or is Elfin just being overly dramatic for the sake of a blog post? But . . . but . . . but . . . they had a sleepover!I'm personally thrilled....

MORA WITHDRAWS NAME FROM D.C. COACH SEARCH
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Seahawks assistant coach Jim Mora has withdrawn his name from consideration for the vacant head-coaching position with the Washington Redskins.
Mora, who coached the Falcons to a 27-23 record in three seasons with the team, widely is regarded as the hand-picked candidate to succeed Mike Holmgren in Seattle once Holmgren retires. Today's development could mean that Holmgre, 60, has decided to retire now. Alternatively, it could be that Mora has received a Jim Caldwell-style style promise that, upon Holmgren's retirement (whenever it may happen) Mora will take over.
Under the Rooney Rule, it's permissible for a team to have an advance agreement with an assistant coach to become the head coach at some specific point in the future. As NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed to us by e-mail on Friday afternoon, such a commitment does not constitute a violation of the rule, if the promise is contained in the assistant coach's contract.

*As for the Defense: Expect most of the players to stay...Macklin will most likely be released and Leigh Torrence may as well...
*This came as a shock to me but Springs will probably still be here next season because I was told that the outlook on Carlos Rogers was not good...Trainers are not optimistic on him coming back next season because he has lost so much muscle in his legs from the surgery and he is still limping around quite abit...

Many around the league believe Mora, who has deep ties to the Pacific Northwest and is a U of Washington guy, is the prime candidate for the Seattle job should Mike Homlgren retire as many NFL executives and coaches believe he will.
"Jim had a wonderful meeting with the Redskins and he loved the organization and had nothing but good things to say about Dan Snyder," Lamonte said. "But at the end of the day family counts most and Jim has three children under the age of 12 and he idea of moving his family across the country for the third time in three years was just untenable."
There are several ways to read this:
1. Mora was told by Seattle coach Mike Holmgren that he's leaning toward retirement or will coach one more season. That would put Mora -- the former Atlanta coach who interviewed with The Danny on Wednesday -- as the Seahawks new boss in 2008 or 2009. A similar scenario is unfolding with the Colts where Jim Caldwell will eventually replace Tony Dungy, possibly as early as next week.
2. The Redskins told Mora he wasn't going to be the guy so they let him drop out before he was kicked out. This happens all the time. No big deal.
3. The Redskins weren't sold on Mora, Snyder continues to wonder if a Gregg Williams-Vinny Cerrato working partnership would last and he's going to look at other candidates.
4. Mora completed his interview with The Danny, compared his situation in Seattle (defensive backs coach, future head coach) and opted patience would be best.
The wild card in this search is now the "secret" candidate who has been interviewed twice. We're told he's an NFL assistant, which would eliminate Bill Cowher.
Mora's withdrawl eliminates all chances of this being over before Monday. I'll go with a Tuesday dog-and-pony show, this-is-the-guy-we-wanted-all-along presser at the Park.
*I asked about the "Mystery" candidate and the only people that they were aware of being interviewed was some coach from Tampa Bay...oh and Danny was trying to get ahold of Cowher but I guess he was not interested...
.......*Caldwell/Thrash: This is going to be a toss up as well because both guys are a good option @ #3 WR...the thing is that the advantage may go to Thrash because he plays Special teams and Reche does not...so that is the big hit on him as well..
I would be disappointed if Torrence was released, I thought he played well down the stretch. Especially considering Rogers' situation. If his immediate future looks this gloomy, he will probably figure to begin the season on the PUP. Would Torrence not fill the role of dime corner adequately? He's due to earn $445,000 next year, so he's a relative bargain. I'm not totally opposed to taking a corner in the first. I can see DT, DE, OT, WR and CB. We could use some youth at corner. We have none other than Rogers and his play has been spotty and he's coming back from a serious injury. I obviously wouldn't want to see a reach for a corner though. I cringe at the idea of them being convinced they will go corner in round 1 heading into the draft. But . . . but . . . but . . . they had a sleepover!I'm personally thrilled....

Corner in the first...dear lord we are screwed.
He had beaten out Macklin, and didn't appear to be playing too badly to me. I'd keep him also, unless someone else came up equally or more talented who offered something Torrence did not (does he play special teams?)I would be disappointed if Torrence was released, I thought he played well down the stretch. Especially considering Rogers' situation. If his immediate future looks this gloomy, he will probably figure to begin the season on the PUP. Would Torrence not fill the role of dime corner adequately? He's due to earn $445,000 next year, so he's a relative bargain.
I meant to mention that - I don't get the Torrance thing either. He really impressed me with his development as a nickel corner for them. I don't think he'll ever be a front line starter, certainly not in a man-coverage scheme, but he was a good serviceable player in my view.I agree it's a concern but I do not agree with releasing Torrence, he played well in a his nickel role. I still think we should go D-Line in round one and then try and snag a CB in round 2.
Um, Dan, you might want to consider whether Vinny rather than Gregg is in fact the expendable variable in that equation.Ryan O'Halloran's blog
3. The Redskins weren't sold on Mora, Snyder continues to wonder if a Gregg Williams-Vinny Cerrato working partnership would last and he's going to look at other candidates.
A couple of years ago, I might have agreed but at this point Thrash offers zero on offense. Caldwell is a good route runner and has good hands, the kind of guy who runs solid 12-yard routes on 3rd and 9 and actually catches the ball and converts 1st downs. To me you keep Caldwell, especially given that he's 5 or 6 years younger anyway, and also because you now have Anthony Mix who is a special teams stud. It frankly seems obvious to me.More from the guy on the ESPN board:
*Caldwell/Thrash: This is going to be a toss up as well because both guys are a good option @ #3 WR...the thing is that the advantage may go to Thrash because he plays Special teams and Reche does not...so that is the big hit on him as well..

That is the inteview process...asking questions about why Mora took a certain player.I can picture all of Snyder's interviews being them putting together rosters in Madden then simulating a season and seeing who ends up with the best record.Tuesday there will be a press conference where Snyder introduces some high school kid as the new coach who then lays out his plan to acquire Peyton Manning, Randy Moss, Osi Umenyiora, Ed Reed, and Devin Hester.
See, Marvelous, you're just not paying attention to the philosophy of our front office. It's all very clear and consistent in building towards the common goal, per that philosophy. Now, once we figure out what that philosophy is, it'll all make sense, I promise. Some of these posts about cutting players do not make sense to me.
Exactly. And he's only 26 and will cost $400k. And plays teams.I meant to mention that - I don't get the Torrance thing either. And yes we will keep Portis...
That may explain the 2 mystery interviews this week, which supposedly were with an assistant coach from Tampa. If Gregg keeps waiting everyone else will drop out.The Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday reached agreement with legendary defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin on a multiyear contract extension, ESPN.com has learned.............
.......The extension came after a few weeks of negotiations.
There had been unsubstantiated rumors that Kiffin, 67, might depart the Bucs to join his son, Oakland coach Lane Kiffin, with the Raiders, but those were dubious from the outset. The Atlanta Falcons had indicated some interest in Kiffin, but they remain without a head coach. And it is believed that, as recently as this week, the Washington Redskins discussed the possibility of hiring Kiffin as defensive coordinator, even though they have yet to settle on a successor to head coach Joe Gibbs.
Man, I think there would have been a lot of happy redskins fans had they hired Kiffin as defensive coordinator. It is interesting that Schwartz, Mora and Meeks all interviewed for the job and all these guys are defensive coaches.Pasquarelli

I disagree with you there. Hiring Kiffin virtually ensures that Williams is not a viable HC candidate as it undercuts his running of the defense, and not only that he runs a different base defense than Williams with the Cover-2 scheme. In short, Kiffin's hiring would have thrown the coaching search into turmoil, and that's not a good thing with the team seemingly unified in their support for GW.southeastjerome said:Man, I think there would have been a lot of happy redskins fans had they hired Kiffin as defensive coordinator. See I disagree. I think that if they were looking to hire Kiffin as defensive coordinator, that would mean GW would be head coach. The redskins defense, personell wise is reasonbly suited to play a Kiffin Tampa 2. Drafting a guy like Harvey would make it more suitable of a Kiffin defense. If GW is head coach, I would not take it as a foregone conclusion that he would run the defense. In fact, I think he would look for someone that he could trust with the defense, and I would think Kiffin would fit that bill.I disagree with you there. It is interesting that Schwartz, Mora and Meeks all interviewed for the job and all these guys are defensive coaches.fatness said:Pasquarelli
And it is believed that, as recently as this week, the Washington Redskins discussed the possibility of hiring Kiffin as defensive coordinator, even though they have yet to settle on a successor to head coach Joe Gibbs.![]()
And one of them (Schwartz?) may be the new DC in DC.southeastjerome said:It is interesting that Schwartz, Mora and Meeks all interviewed for the job and all these guys are defensive coaches.
True. And if the Kiffin rumor was true (him to come to DC to be come defensive coordinator) that probably lends more credit to that idea. And one of them (Schwartz?) may be the new DC in DC.southeastjerome said:It is interesting that Schwartz, Mora and Meeks all interviewed for the job and all these guys are defensive coaches.
I think Kiffin as the DC makes no sense at all (although I am still serach for the Redskin philosphy here). The defensive staff is loaded with Gregg Williams guys. I believe Jerry Gray was Williams Defensive Coordinator in Buffalo. If you want continuity, you hire Williams and promote a DC from within. Hiring Kiffin as DC would definately be a bad message for the current defensive staff and players. By the way, Greg Blache already has the title Defensive Coordinator. If Williams is hired, do they really need an Assistant Head Coach - Defense?True. No, but maybe they can make him a Super Duper Defensive Coordinator.I think Kiffin as the DC makes no sense at all (although I am still serach for the Redskin philosphy here). So you think that if Williams is hired as HC, the team will just pass off the defense to Blache? That I do not see happening.I think Kiffin as the DC makes no sense at all (although I am still serach for the Redskin philosphy here). The defensive staff is loaded with Gregg Williams guys.
