I can picture all of Snyder's interviews being them putting together rosters in Madden then simulating a season and seeing who ends up with the best record.Tuesday there will be a press conference where Snyder introduces some high school kid as the new coach who then lays out his plan to acquire Peyton Manning, Randy Moss, Osi Umenyiora, Ed Reed, and Devin Hester.

MORA WITHDRAWS NAME FROM D.C. COACH SEARCH
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Seahawks assistant coach Jim Mora has withdrawn his name from consideration for the vacant head-coaching position with the Washington Redskins.
Mora, who coached the Falcons to a 27-23 record in three seasons with the team, widely is regarded as the hand-picked candidate to succeed Mike Holmgren in Seattle once Holmgren retires. Today's development could mean that Holmgre, 60, has decided to retire now. Alternatively, it could be that Mora has received a Jim Caldwell-style style promise that, upon Holmgren's retirement (whenever it may happen) Mora will take over.
Under the Rooney Rule, it's permissible for a team to have an advance agreement with an assistant coach to become the head coach at some specific point in the future. As NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed to us by e-mail on Friday afternoon, such a commitment does not constitute a violation of the rule, if the promise is contained in the assistant coach's contract.

*First things first Gregg Williams is expected to be annouced as HC on Monday(ish) or sometime next week

*I asked about Saunders...and was told that was a 50/50...Gregg was unhappy with alot of the play calling last season so he may want to fix things offensively...
*As for the Defense: Expect most of the players to stay...Macklin will most likely be released and Leigh Torrence may as well...

It's a legitimate need if Rogers is still gimpy next season (do you really think Springs and Smoot can stay healthy all season?), though I'd still prefer to actually generate a freaking pass rush for a change!But . . . but . . . but . . . they had a sleepover!

I agree it's a concern but I do not agree with releasing Torrence, he played well in a his nickel role. I still think we should go D-Line in round one and then try and snag a CB in round 2.I agree. I'm not surprised at the thought of releasing Jansen, or at least having him vastly restructure. Before he got hurt (again) this year he was getting beaten pretty regularly in preseason, and it was pretty clear he's slipped a good bit from the player he used to be. He's still a great team guy for all I know, but you can't pay that kind of money to a starting tackle who's regularly getting pushed around.
If it was up to me, I'd draft D-line or O-line in the first round for the next 10 years.

I would be disappointed if Torrence was released, I thought he played well down the stretch. Especially considering Rogers' situation. If his immediate future looks this gloomy, he will probably figure to begin the season on the PUP. Would Torrence not fill the role of dime corner adequately? He's due to earn $445,000 next year, so he's a relative bargain. I'm not totally opposed to taking a corner in the first. I can see DT, DE, OT, WR and CB. We could use some youth at corner. We have none other than Rogers and his play has been spotty and he's coming back from a serious injury. I obviously wouldn't want to see a reach for a corner though. He had beaten out Macklin, and didn't appear to be playing too badly to me. I'd keep him also, unless someone else came up equally or more talented who offered something Torrence did not (does he play special teams?)

I meant to mention that - I don't get the Torrance thing either. He really impressed me with his development as a nickel corner for them. I don't think he'll ever be a front line starter, certainly not in a man-coverage scheme, but he was a good serviceable player in my view.

Um, Dan, you might want to consider whether Vinny rather than Gregg is in fact the expendable variable in that equation.
A couple of years ago, I might have agreed but at this point Thrash offers zero on offense. Caldwell is a good route runner and has good hands, the kind of guy who runs solid 12-yard routes on 3rd and 9 and actually catches the ball and converts 1st downs. To me you keep Caldwell, especially given that he's 5 or 6 years younger anyway, and also because you now have Anthony Mix who is a special teams stud. It frankly seems obvious to me.
Some of these posts about cutting players do not make sense to me.
The Redskins ended the season with 6 wrs on the active roster: Moss, Randle El, McCardell, Caldwell, Thrash, and Mix. Lloyd was on IR and will probably be cut. So why does either Caldwell or Thrash need to go? Also, Thrash makes the veteran minimum and his full salary does not count against the cap. Unless they swing a trade for Roy Williams for a 2nd rounder, I hope they draft a wr in the 2nd - 4th round and try to develop him. They also have Mike Epsy on IR, who they appeared to like in the preseason.
At CB, they have Springs, Smoot, Rogers, Torrence, and Macklin (forgive me if I left someone out). Torrence seems like an unlikely cut since he should have a very modest contract, looked decent as a CB, and I believe he plays special teams. Macklin, a verteran and 5th on the depth chart, is much more likely to be cut than Torrence.
The teams biggest need is a DE who can rush the passer. With all of the coverage defenses the Redskins play, they really need a pass rush from the DL. Daniels is getting old. Man, I think there would have been a lot of happy redskins fans had they hired Kiffin as defensive coordinator. It is interesting that Schwartz, Mora and Meeks all interviewed for the job and all these guys are defensive coaches.Pasquarelli

I disagree with you there. Hiring Kiffin virtually ensures that Williams is not a viable HC candidate as it undercuts his running of the defense, and not only that he runs a different base defense than Williams with the Cover-2 scheme. See I disagree. I think that if they were looking to hire Kiffin as defensive coordinator, that would mean GW would be head coach. The redskins defense, personell wise is reasonbly suited to play a Kiffin Tampa 2. Drafting a guy like Harvey would make it more suitable of a Kiffin defense. If GW is head coach, I would not take it as a foregone conclusion that he would run the defense. In fact, I think he would look for someone that he could trust with the defense, and I would think Kiffin would fit that bill.I disagree with you there. True. And if the Kiffin rumor was true (him to come to DC to be come defensive coordinator) that probably lends more credit to that idea.
I think Kiffin as the DC makes no sense at all (although I am still serach for the Redskin philosphy here). The defensive staff is loaded with Gregg Williams guys. I believe Jerry Gray was Williams Defensive Coordinator in Buffalo. If you want continuity, you hire Williams and promote a DC from within. Hiring Kiffin as DC would definately be a bad message for the current defensive staff and players. By the way, Greg Blache already has the title Defensive Coordinator. If Williams is hired, do they really need an Assistant Head Coach - Defense?
