We kicked it off last night with a win in Houston...but ####u was in the 2 hole, and Kevin Gregg got the save but did not impress in his Cubby regular season debut. Should the decision have been to go with Marmol?? :bag:

Go Mike Fontenot

Go Cubbies

Milton looks like he's going to get hurt on every play. I cringe each time the ball is hit his way.

DLee with more popups and ground balls to the pull side. What's new?

You have to love seeing Fontenot pick up where he left off last season.

Hoffpauir looks like he'll fill in nicely to give DLee and the corner outfielders days off.

Zambrano still pitching like a horse.

Very similar to last season. If they stay healthy and make a move at the deadline they should be right in it.

I was impressed by Gregg last night. Didn't get rattled when Milton dropped that ball in right. Went out and got it done.

Fair enough. The Reds have a decent rotation with Harang, Cueto, Volquez, and Arroyo can eat some innings. The Cardinals have Carpenter back and I think some Albert guy still plays for them. The Astros have a nice lineup as well and play pretty good defense. The Cubs should still be the favorite, but they'll have to catch some breaks

Also, I was referring to higher aspirations than just the division when I said they "should be right in it."

Milton Bradley doesn't have a hit yet and his OBP is still .357. This guy can really work a count.

I was  to see Kosuke hitting the ball hard last night. If he's on this lineup is going to be pretty treacherous to navigate.

What is the mental impediment that keeps Lou Pinella from subbing defensively for Alfonso Soriano late in games when the Cubs have the lead???

Soriano is actually a difficult player to remove. He makes up for his bonehead initial jumps with an arm that actually has him graded out as a top notch defensive left fielder. On a fly ball to left with a runner on third, Soriano is far and away the best player to have out there. I would rather Gathright play center and Kosuke play right in those situations with fragile Milton on the bench. It is great to see Kosuke taking pitchers, pulling for power, and still going up the middle or opposite field. If I see D-Lee ground another outside pitch to the short or third, I will be throwing something. He did go opposite way with a long fly his last at bat for a deep sac fly but he has looked lost taking easy pitches to hit and swinging at pitches he isn't doing anything with. I can't figure how why Ramirez isn't hitting third and Lee hitting fifth, Ramirez has been the better hitter for three years.Koye Hill is looking like he will be a servicable hitter at backup catcher but of course the Cubs need Soto healthy. Fontenot/Theriot look great so far. Bradley does look scary every time he moves but the Cubs should only need 100+ games and a healthy playoffs from him especially if Kosuke keeps hitting like he can split Ramirez and Lee in the cleanup spot. That said, the middle of the order has to pick it up.Gregg is looking shaky but I like that Marmol is free to pitch in the toughest situation in the 7th and on as long as Pinella uses him in that manner. If so, he will be a far more valuable pitcher than Gregg even if Gregg closes 90% of the time. I like what little I have seen of Guzman and Patton so far and that battle for the 7th inning job could result in a quality pitcher.

So how long before I'm allowed to officially give up on Derek Lee? He looks terrible. His bat is slow, his...well his bat is really slow. Put in the Hoff.

He looked better this series. That double was smashed, and a bomb yesterday. He also plays great defense and Hoffpauir certianly doesn't.Without Aramis and Milton they're obviously going to struggle, but one run off Jason Marquis? Embarassing.Harden-"Stop trying to strike everybody out! Besides that, strikeouts are Fascist, throw some groundballs it's more Democratic!"

Lets hope Hoff can handle the field, because his bat is a significant weapon. It's time to give Pujols the Barry Bonds treatment. IBB every time he is up and there is a runner on base. Every time Lou, every time. Don't let him kill you, the other hitters on the Cards are not good enough to beat the Cubs, imo...

LOL at Chris Duncan in LF, what a bum...

Eats crow...of course the bum hits a two-run job right after I call him a bum...ughhh...

Tough first start for Marshall, but I'd hold on to him.

Bradley has the best eye, or one of the best batting eyes, in the league according to the qwestec system. He looks at ball 4, albeit a close pitch, and gives the ump what he deserves, as that would have been a walked in run. Thanks umps, it may not cost the Cubs the game, but I bet it will. Nice...

The Cubs had 2nd and 3rd and none out. One called strike didn't prevent the Cubs from scoring. Also, Bradley bumped the ump. Hello, suspension!

Uh, way to miss the point.

Kind of, a blow call cost the Cubs one run, which is pretty important in a tight game. It's in the past though, Bradley doesn't get many of those calls due to his reputation, it is what it is.

I don't blame Bradley for doing what he did at all. Emotions would be running high at the plate for any ball player in this situation (Especially Milton Bradley's) He actually won the battle with the pitcher with the bases juiced in a close game down a run (I believe) to the Cardinals in his first at-bat at Wrigley, the home plate ump took that away from him and Milton let him know about it.........He get's a pass

Well, at least Bradley didn't get injured going after this ump.

I know the guys feelings are hurt and all, but why doesn't he just take the two game suspension while he's hurt? He's not playing anyway, outside of the occasional pinch hitting appearance. The guy should just take two days off. But noooooooooooooooo he has to appeal on "principle", and have to likely sit out two games on one of those infrequent occurrences when he's actually healthy. Plus, given Bradley's luck the commissioners office will probably increase the suspension once Milton gives his appeal (and bumps Selig).

edit to add: Hey Cubs fans (of which I count myself), we've got a full 3 years of this coming. Good times

I for one think that Bradley might be exactly what this team needs. He will cost himself a couple games in suspension and miss a lot more in injury. But his intensity is sorely needed on a team that has quietly disappeared two straight years. If he plays enough during the regular season to bring a postseason berth and he is healthy for the playoffs, that is all the Cubs need from him.

And nice late inning heroics the last two weeks to save a few games.

Happy Birthday to Wrigley Field...... 85 years old today, and fittingly given a loss as a present from the home team.

I think you're doing it wrong.
It wasn't pretty, but it workedGoing again tomorrow.
I'm becoming a believer in the power of Wrigley.... in saying that, I need a good start out of Nolasco on Sunday, so don't bring your A game
