i had such a bad feeling about this before the inning even started. i saw gonzalez was up 3rd and i figured it would be a 2-run home run off my closer. instead, i get home from work and he's given up 4 ... unreal.Kevin Gregg is absolute dog ####.![]()
He looked terrible. I'd say he was serving up BP but his control was worse. Gonzalez had a bad cut and popped out, he should ended it right there. Would have been two less ER anyway.i had such a bad feeling about this before the inning even started. i saw gonzalez was up 3rd and i figured it would be a 2-run home run off my closer. instead, i get home from work and he's given up 4 ... unreal.Kevin Gregg is absolute dog ####.![]()

I know it sounds crazy, but maybe the move to closer is what Marmol needs to get over the mental hump?................OR...seal the Cubbie's chances of not making the post-season.http://www.suntimes.com/sports/1721313,CST-SPT-cub18.article
Gregg out as closer. No word on his replacement yet.
I knew it! I was ready to drop gregg for marmol last night, wasn't even gonna wait for it to be official. But some team sleeping has marmol, so gonna try guzman.http://www.suntimes.com/sports/1721313,CST-SPT-cub18.article

You know which is worse. The Cubs organization now does what it can to puts its team in a position to contend. In the 80's, the making a profit was the only concern. Greg Maddux was practically pushed out the door to become a Hall of Fame Brave. The laughable list of over the hill and never did much free agents added over the years to appease the fans but not to win are far too obvious now. I agree with a recent column that listed the Cubs best and worst recent free agent signings. Soriano was on both lists. The bad, he is an overpaid streak hitter who is a horrible fielder. The good, he marked the organization's shift to attain year in and year out contention and he has been a valuable cog in two playoff runs. This season sucks because Bradley, Soto, Soriano, and Marmol have drastically underperformed. It wasn't a result of horrible signings or an organization that does not care about winning. I can easily be a fan of a team that tries and fails. The Cubs have no choice but to keep this team together next year. What they need to do is do everything they can to bolster the farm system. That means keeping their draft picks and spending on amateur free agents. Not trading away the gems of the system even though they are few and far between at this point. Most of it all, it means putting the people in place to develop young players so that Corey Pattersons and Felix Pies of the past are not repeated.Well, I"m checking in here rather late. What a horrible season. How many times have the Cubs left the bases loaded in August? I'd love to know that number. And probably in each of those games, one hit changes the outcome of the game.I, for one, say keep the team intact in 2010 and keep Lou. Of course, when you look at contracts, I think there's not much choice. I am still a fan of Hendry. But he WAAAAYYYY over-reacted to the Dodger sweep last year. As a fan who has followed the Cubs since the early 1980s, it's good to talk about them each year as being contenders rather than how they were through the 80s' and 90's. But it's still annoying. I don't know which is worse.
old man piniella is coming back for next year. they already fired their hitting coach once too.eagles2007 said:not a cubs fan, but there's something seriously wrong with this team. 1 hit off wolf, what, 3 today? i don't know if they need to bench a player or two to send a message, or fire the hitting coach, but something needs to happen. it may be too late for this year, though. maybe lou is gone after this year?

Bradley suspended for rest of season
By Paul Sullivan
ST. LOUIS -- For this season, it's game over for Milton Bradley.
The outspoken outfielder, who took shots at the Cubs in a Saturday interview with the Daily Herald, has been suspended for the rest of the season, according to general manager Jim Hendry.
"The last few days became too much for me to tolerate," Hendry said.
"I'm certainly not going to let our great fans become excuses," Hendry said. "I'm not going to tolerate [bradley] not being able to answer questions from the media respectably."
This came after Bradley's encounter Thursday when reporters asked Bradley about taking himself out of the game without a pinch runner ready following a hit. The scene played out like this:
Reporters: What happened with the injury?
Bradley: "I'm not talking about that. What else you got?"
Reporters: Why did you come out?
Bradley: "I got knee inflammation. I got two knee surgeries. That happens when you got knee surgery, in case you don't know. What else you got?"
Reporters: How long will you be out?
Bradley: "What else you got? Anything significant?"
This went on and on until Bradley turned his back, ending the interview.
Bradley is not with the team as the Cubs prepare for a 7:05 p.m. game against the division-leading Cardinals.
The Cubs signed the oft-moved Bradley to a three-year, $30 million contract in the off-season but are expected to try to trade him this off-season after one disappointing campaign on the North Side.
